Of Mice & Men – Second and Sebring Lyrics

I'll tell everyone a little story...
My sophomore year in high school, my mom was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. I was 15 turning 16 (around the age Austin was when he lost his mother) when she was diagnosed. I went through a lot emotionally and came to the decision to end my life. I tried to hang myself but that didn't work out too well. On March 21, 2010 I tried to shoot myself. I put my iPod on shuffle and Second & Sebring came on. This song described the pain I felt and the stress I was going through. (My mom did not die though.) It is because of this song that I'm alive today. I was seconds away from pulling the trigger and ending my life and I thank God everyday Austin wrote this song. I have the lyrics, "I hope that I make you PROUD" tattooed on my arm so I'll never forget the strength this song gave me. Thank you Austin Carlile and Of Mice & Men for writing and performing such a powerful and emotional song |

Second & Sebring is about Austin Carlile's mother who died when he was 17 years old of an enlarged heart valve. (Austin has a tattoo of a heart on his right arm with "Mom" written on it for this reason.) He wrote this song to describe how he was trying to move on from the grief of losing her and how he is now trying to do what would make her proud. |

Of Mice & Men – The Great Hendowski Lyrics

This song is about a homeless man Austin met. The homeless man was asking Austin how he could be so happy when this world is disappointing. Austin replied by telling the homeless man to read a book (the Bible) and note the words in red (the words of Jesus). Austin promised the man he would find hope by reading this book. Towards the end of the song, Austin says, "This world is not my home, I'm just passing through." Austin has, "This world is not my home" tattooed on his chest. This part means that earth is the middle point to everyone's next home (heaven) and that we're just here for a little bit of time (passing through).
This song is often on their concert set-lists because it's very inspirational and discourages the idea of self-destruction and suicide. |
