Christina Aguilera – Genie In A Bottle Lyrics 7 years ago
The song is basically about a girl who wants a man that will treat her right. "Rub her the right way" means making the right impression. She feels the physical attraction to a man, but she doesn't want a relation that's purely physical. She wants a man that will care about her emotional and mental well-being as well; someone that will care about her as a person. She's saying that if they do that, then she'll be their girl and their's only.

V V Brown – Travelling Like the Light Lyrics 7 years ago
Here are the correct lyrics:

Is there any wonder why I'm shining so tonight
Is there any wonder why I speed like motorbikes
Is there any wonder how you make me feel alright
Is there any wonder why my energy's so bright

You know it ain't easy
You know it's so hard when love comes

I try to deny when my soul feels butterflies
And I try to resist when you say that it's alright
And I try to believe that it's nothing but a crush
But it's incredible, so incredible
I'm travelling like the light

Light, light, light, light
Light, light, light, light

Is there any wonder why you give me little chills
Is there any wonder why this feels sincere and brill
Is there any wonder why I'm running through the night
Is there any wonder why this feeling gives me frights
No

You know it ain't easy
You know it's so hard when love comes

I try to deny when my soul feels butterflies
And I try to resist when you say that it's alright
And I try to believe that it's nothing but a crush
But it's incredible, so incredible
I'm travelling like the light

Light, light, light, light
(Travelling like the light)
Light, light, light, light

It's so complicated how your feelings can get you
And your heart wants to just run away
It's so bad, confusing and it makes it so frustrating when you love
And you don't want to give it up, no

I try to deny when my soul feels butterflies
And I try to resist when you say that it's alright
And I try to believe that it's nothing but a crush
But it's incredible, so incredible
I'm travelling like the light

Milky Chance – Feathery Lyrics 7 years ago
For some reason, I keep picturing an angel falling from grace and losing their wings because they fell in love with someone they weren't supposed to (most likely a human). There's a very celestial/heavenly vibe to this song with all the talk of feathers and the wind and the singer's soul being made clean. The line "Yes, I am a dreamer and these feathers, they won't stay" makes it seem like the narrator knows they won't stay clean for long and that they will end up doing the 'wrong' thing, which is in this case (maybe) following their 'dream' of love. That line is followed by the chorus, which kind of sounds like the singer's in agony over their decision, but at the same time willing to go through with it for the sake of love. The "even though love is going to kill me" part reminds me of song lyrics from OneRepublic's "Counting Stars" that say "I feel something so right/Doing the wrong thing/I feel something so wrong/Doing the right thing....Everything that kills me makes me feel alive". Being in love makes the narrator feel alive just as much as it harms them (in some way). I don't know if that makes sense, but that's what I've always pictured whenever I hear this song.

Valen – I Don't Know Why Lyrics 8 years ago
In this song, there's someone who has a deep feeling of dread. This troubling feeling unsettles them, so much that they're going insane (And I'm talkin' to myself). Their faith in something has been used up (I'm gonna lose my faith/I'm gonna burn it out) maybe because they found out that what they thought they knew to be true was false (The walls are crumblin' down). Nothing good is working out for them and this feeling of unease is making them exhausted (With every breath that I take/Feels like the last and I'm tired). They don't even know why they feel this way (which is shown with the echoing repetition of "I don't know why"). It seems like something from their past has come back to disturb them, making them feel emotionally if not physically strained (And I've been living with the memories/Getting louder, a shot to the heart). The "I'm dreaming live" line along with the ominous sound of the guitar makes it seem like the person's nightmares are coming true instead of their dreams - and it's haunting them. The mood of this song is very angsty.

Miike Snow – Pretender Lyrics 8 years ago
It seems like the song's about a guy who's met a woman that's changing him. Because of her, he wants to become better, change his bad habits ("I didn't want to wake up until I felt your touch, now I notice that I drink too much"). For a while, he'd been in a dark place, pretending to be fine when he wasn't ("Spent the morning as a pretender"). But she changed his whole world ("And the turning of the universe oh") and made him realize that he's not okay, but that's okay 'cause he has her ("Will this be the age of surrender? The falling dark it lines the walls, let ours combine").

Siouxsie and the Banshees – Sick Child Lyrics 8 years ago
It seems like something bad/traumatic happened to someone and the person singing wants to comfort them. Even though the singer knows that someone, they appear different to them now because a darkness in them placed there by the bad thing is revealed (And I know I never knew you/Your mind, your pain/I will melt your winter tears/If you say you will/If you could say you will). The singer learns of the person's 'pain', seeing what they'd never noticed before (Dare to take another look). The other person is still affected by the bad thing that happened (Still shaking in the tear room like a sick child/Still shaking nothing reconciled like a sick child). It also seems like the darkness in them is making them go crazy, feel like a 'sick child' (Madman screams an unknown language) as well as depressed (King of moon gloomy afternoon). Even though the person feeling this way promises the singer they'll stop feeling sad if they can comfort them (Melancholia colliding out of mind/In a silver swirl, I take a lungful in/Blow a fistful out if you could say you will), they still can't let go of what happened to them, as is shown with the repetition of "still shaking.... like a sick child".

@[michael164:6898] In the music video, he's at the gates of heaven but ends up getting rejected and falling into hell where he transforms into a demon and meets Satan. Does that mean the song is about someone thinking that they deserve the worst and donning it not out of self-hatred, but rather pride? Cause it seemed like Brandon was happy with what he thought he deserved (a place in hell as a demon).

Maroon 5 – She Will Be Loved Lyrics 8 years ago
This to me is a song about unrequited love. This guy is desperately in love with this girl who sees him only as a friend. He sees her as the only one for him, though. He's always been there for her, always helped her out when things went bad, and yet the girl belongs to someone else (never him). Despite not having the type of relationship he wanted with this girl, though, he decided to still be there for her in any way she needed, always.

KALEIDA – THINK Lyrics 8 years ago
To me this song is about being helplessly in love with someone ("You got me in your open hand") who’s foreign to love or still in the dark about it (“you're always in the dark” & “give me what you don’t know”).

It’s like the writer is begging the person they love to notice them and love them back with the repetition of the chorus (“Think of me”) and the line “Her deilwng that you never found”. Deilwng is Welsh for the word “worthy”. So she’s saying that she felt the guy she liked never found her worthy of her love, never tried to pursue her in that way.

It also seems like the narrator knows that the one they love will eventually return their feelings ("You know it's gonna come out").

This is basically a song about a girl proclaiming to a guy that he's the one.

She talks about how he's different from the other guys she's been with

Ex:
"Before I met you, I had a few who hung around and made me blue...." and "Oh, I never felt a beat in my heart ‘til you made it started"

She also says how they were meant to be together

Ex:
"It’s been written in the stars/The years and of the hearts like ours.... I was always looking for you"

The Mccoys – Sorrow Lyrics 8 years ago
So it seems like this guy likes this girl who is basically using him. She's a burden on him, gives him grief with the mischievous/rebellious way she acts and the fact that she uses him for money. He stays with her despite this because he genuinely likes her. It also seems like she comes in and out of his life, like she's not always around ("I never knew just how much I'd missed her").

But when she is, he's happy to see her yet at the same time sad maybe because he knows she won't stick around long; she's just there to use him and he lets her 'cuz he's probably in love with her. For him, she's the very picture of sadness with her "long blonde hair and her eyes of blue" because she's the person he loves but can't have since he knows she doesn't love him back.

@[trindl:4776] It's just another way of saying 'many bridges'. I think the act of burning bridges means cutting off ties with your past or what you knew before. In this song, I think it's meant to show how the guy's no longer a part of the girl's life (she's his past). He's left behind the heart she broke in search for a way to make it whole again.

Tom Odell – Can't Pretend Lyrics 8 years ago
Well, the song seems like it's about a person who has fallen in love with someone but they don't want to admit it. They try to hide, but ultimately it end up showing or they can't handle hiding it anymore (hence repetition of "i can't pretend"). They know they need love, that it's hard to live without it but for some reason they're reluctant to show it or welcome it. They try to be strong, saying they've got "tough arms" and "rough skin", but it's all to no avail. Love breaks through their defenses. They can't deny the connection they have with the person they have feelings for: "Oh feel our bodies grow and our souls they blend". And even though they try to fight those feelings, this person still hopes they reach the one they love: "Yeah love I hope you know how much my heart depends".

These are the lyrics:

This is the happy house, we're happy here in the happy house
Oh, it's such fun, fun, fun
We've come to play in the happy house
And waste a day in the happy house, it never rains, never rains

We've come to scream in the happy house
We're in a dream in the happy house
We're all quite sane, sane, sane
This is the happy house-we're happy here

There's room for you if you say "I do"
But don't say no or you'll have to go
We've done no wrong with our blinkers on
It's safe and calm if you sing along, sing along, sing along

This is the happy house, we're happy here in the happy house
To forget ourselves and pretend all's well
There is no hell

I'm looking through your window
I'm looking through your window

It seems like it's about not being able to be with family during Christmas and wishing you could be: "And I will be by your side/We will hang the Christmas lights".

Something bad happened that separated the distance between you and your family and so you cling to good memories instead: "Get lost in better times/
If only in my mind".

Ultimately, you're bitter/jealous because you're not apart of a family anymore, or at least not one that would welcome you back: Feel my heart start bursting with envy/'cuz I'm still in the dark".

Since you have no family to share the holiday with, you're left to be with strangers: Someday maybe I will learn/The comfort of strangers/And I won't feel the winter's bite/Looking out at the lonely night".

You hope that one day you'll be a part of a family again or have one of your own: Someday maybe I will know/What's behind that window/And I will be on the inside/Looking out at the lonely night". They won't be alone anymore.

It sound like it might be about someone (Adelaide) who should get out of an abusive relationship, but doesn't: "black and blue dear Adelaide, so many scars to hide". The person narrating - which could be Adelaide - is ashamed of Adelaide (herself) because of this and wants desperately to get out of the relationship despite not doing anything to do that; it's like they know being with the guy is poison for them, but they can't make themselves leave no matter how much they should/desire to do so.

It's about having harbored feelings of love for someone who you were never in a relationship with because they didn't love you back. It's about wanting to move forward, but being trapped by things from your past. Those things keep coming back, leaving you a mess because you don't know how to deal with them resurfacing. Just when you have started to heal and look towards the future, past things show up to ruin your progress. You're scared of whatever it is from your past and feel like you have no future because you can't escape it/move forward. Your past makes you think that whatever future you had planned is unattainable, just an illusion ("it tells us what's real").

Digital Daggers – Surrender Lyrics 9 years ago
This seems like its about a love affair where one person has been keeping the other at arm's length, but are now finally giving into their possibly forbidden desire for them ("taken down I give in to what I cannot have").They somehow think that they can't be with the other person - that getting involved with them will only end in tragedy ("sweet despair feel you devour me") - but they're having a moment of weakness/finally are succumbing to their feelings for this person. It seems like they'd tried to be distant, hide their feelings ("taken down, I give in to what I can't disguise") and keep their heart closed off ("secret, hidden underneath it, trying hard to keep it safely out of reach"), but ultimately failed ("I surrender" & "I give in").

This reminds me of Varen & Isobel from the Nevermore series by Kelly Creagh. Both started out disliking each other because they were different; he's a goth (an outcast) and she's a cheerleader (popular girl). I think Varen even hated her or at least the crowd she hung out with, but then he eventually grew to care for Isobel as they got to know each other more. He tried to ignore what was growing between them, but he began to dream about her ("finally in my dreams") and - without wanting to - fell in love with her.

It's a song about being in denial that you love someone. This is done possibly because the guy's afraid of being rejected. The person he likes knows that he likes her. She wants him to be honest with himself about loving her, but doesn't push reciprocate her feelings. She's patient and thinks he'll come around eventually. He knows she'll wait for him to open up and let her in.

I think this song's about a woman who is in love with someone else's man. I think she's mostly fantasizing about being with the guy; I don't think she's made attempts to start an affair with him. It seems like it's about those who tell their opinions, but don't stand by them because most people don't agree with them. They tell the stories to others who earnestly believe them ("Licking her chops/She looks at the lunatics/She needs another fix"). After saying 'crazy' opinions, they deny believing those things themselves and act like people who believe what they secretly still do are crazy. This is done in order to not offend others or to not appear insane themselves ("I'm only joking/I don't believe a thing I've said/What are you smoking?/I'm just f--king with your head/Only a crazy little thing i read)". There's an echoing question of "Why do I do what I do?" in the background of the song. I think it's a person who does this asking why they cover up what they truly think.

HURTS – Mercy Lyrics 9 years ago
I get from this song the vibe that someone is torturing the one they love and it's causing both of them pain. There's some juxtaposition because the torturer is saying "mercy" which is something you'd expect the person being hurt to say. I think it's shown that the one being tortured is someone they love because of the line that says "caress me with pain". A caress is usually a motion done lovingly with tender and affection, but that word in this song seems oddly used since it's paired with pain. Like their form of love is painful to bear. And it's killing the person delivering that love, but they won't walk away despite the pain they're causing and the hatred it's building in their loved one. It seems like there might also be some unrequited love in here or at least a hate/love relationship; the one bearing the love is filled with "rage" at the other's 'loving' affections. The torturer/lover knows they're wrong to force their love on that person, but are unwilling to stop and yet hate to see that person cry because of them ("mercy don't cry there's too much pain to come"). It's a bit confusing at this part: "and feed your hate I shiver each time that you say mercy". It seems like these lines are from the POV of the torturer and that they're ok with their beloved's hatred towards them growing stronger. The "shiver" is probably from fear of the one they love (?). And then towards the end it seems like the person who hates the one who loves them is finally crying out "mercy", but I'm not sure.

Somehow this kind of reminds me of the relationship between a slave and a master like Epps and Patsy from 12 Years a Slave. She hates him for because he owns her, rapes her, acts possessive of her. He also acts like he has feelings for her and doesn't want to hurt her yet hurting her seems necessary to him (that scene where he didn't want to whip her and so had Solomon do it).

Fleet Foxes – He Doesn't Know Why Lyrics 9 years ago
The narrator has an older brother he hasn't seen in a while who comes home after "wandering" (maybe to find himself or get away from pressures at home). The "rugged hands and a silver knife" plus the "twenty dollars" part show that the time he spent away had been hard financially and possibly dangerous. The brother tries to delude himself into thinking he can go back to how it used to be. The narrator can see that it's futile to try and do this because he remembers that his brother has done this before and it didn't pan out; that's when the wandering possibly started. Yet, at the same time, feels powerless to stop his brother from falling back into this pattern. The "my brother you were born" part, shows that the narrator believes going away, although it's changed him and hasn't brought him much money, was overall a good thing for his brother. Away from home his brother was his own person, but at home he's controlled by the expectations of their family/made into a person that the narrator respects less. It could possibly mean something bad; that because his brother isn't the same anymore, going away has gave birth to a stranger.

Madonna – Masterpiece Lyrics 9 years ago
The song seems to be about a person who's in love with someone they - along with others - view to be perfect. There are high expectations placed upon this person and the one who is in love with them sees that and sympathizes with them ("it can't be fun to always be the chosen one"). The narrator seems to have some self-esteem issues by being with this person; they feel that they're imperfect either in looks or as a person and that the one they love is much better than them in some way. I get the feeling that the person that's in love with this figure of perfection is loyal and will always stay by their side with the hope that they can be with them in a closer relationship. They hope to 'steal' this person away to have for themselves one day ("like a thief in the night"). This doesn't necessarily mean that the love is one-sided - although that could be the case - but that the admiring one feels they love the other person more. Yet, I think the "look but please don't touch me" part might mean that the one they love has feelings for them back but keeps them at arm's length for some reason. Or that because of how high the person they love has been placed above others, they feel it's hard to connect with them on a personal level/can't reach them. Maybe they even feel it'd be a form of sacrilege to try to be close to this person because of how much they think highly of them.
