Breaking Benjamin – Failure Lyrics 2 years ago
From a heavy faith Christian perspective, this can be such a powerful and meaningful song. And as all music reflects the art of God, any lyrics can have spiritual meaning to certain people. Here’s mine.\n\nThe 1st set of lyrics are “ Life will come our way, it has only just begun”. \n\nThis is a message of foresight is basically saying that life will eventually destroy this world, like there’s a tornado brewing and it will come your way. You think the world is bad now? Well it’s only just begun. The amount of sin and suffering we face in today’s society will only increase. \n\n“The world will die alone, The frail will fall below” \n\nAnother message foresight reminding us that as bad as this life may, it won’t last that long. The world will die alone because god left this word the moment Adam at the forbidden apple. And God has promised a new earth and a new Home in heaven. The frail will fall below is referring to those who reject God. At the end of times, they will fall below this world to hell.\n\n“Time will take our place, we return it back to one” \n\nThese lyrics are obvious. Time will outlive all of us and everything we did on earth will be replaced and forgotten. And at the very end, the world will go back to the original creator. God, The One.\n\n“The calm before the cold, the long and lonely road”\n\nThis a very sad truth. The earth will only get colder. That’s what sin does to us, it makes us cold and bitter. And without God here living in the world with us, we face it alone. Buts that’s how God planned. He wanted us to to have trust in love and rely on Him despite God not being here or being seen. That’s what Faith is. \n\n“ Look for the light that leads me home” \n\nThis is the most obvious lyrics in the entire song. \nThe light of Christ is often described as the only path to eternal life. Basically, our home in heaven. \n\nAfter listening to the chorus you’ll understand what the spiritual meaning I’m talking about is. It’s a plea to God to tear the whole world down. The message is asking “When are coming back Jesus? When will you end Satins reign of terror and Evil on use. When will the suffering end? \n\n“Failure” \n\nThe final lyric and clearest point this message is making is that this world is nothing but a reflection of Mankind’s Failure. Starting with Adam and getting worse and worse for thousands of years.\nI wouldn’t be surprised if one of the writers was Christian and wrote the lyrics. They are truly amazing. .

Evanescence – Going Under Lyrics 4 years ago
I think everyone has the meaning wrong, Or at least most of the ones posted that I read are. Evanescence Has very Metaphorical music. I believe this song is about a person fighting with themself. The Dark sinful selfish side f them that they want to let go of but can't. They keep falling. "Drowning in you" "going under" "falling forever" "Got to break through" Its like she has sunk so low shes drowning at the bottom of a well.

"So go on and scream
Scream at me I'm so far away
I won't be broken again
I've got to breathe I can't keep going under"

Shes trying to fight through and rise up and wake up

Unwritten Law – Seein' Red Lyrics 4 years ago
I'm gonna give a short explanation rather than going lyric by lyric. The meaning of the song seems pretty clear to me. It sounds like its to a girl either a loved friend or girlfriend. And clearly she's had a rough time either with a relationship, drugs, drinking, or maybe more than one. And the guy singing is so sick of seeing his friend make these bad desicirons. He's not going to give her any more sympathy he's done. She's not gonna see his face again because he's not gonna have her back anymore knowing the harm she's causing herself. So he's giving her an ultimatum "and now it's time to make a choice" either stop the bad habits or he's leaving her. Then the chorus is pretty blatent in basically saying "stop making excuses, accept your wrongs, embrace your mistakes and let this part of you die. Only then will you know how to live renewed.

Ellie Goulding – Lights Lyrics 5 years ago
This song seems very clear to me. It has a very dark melodic melody which is pretty perfect for its metaphorical meaning. I didn't read all the previous posts so many of you probably also figured it out but I'd still like to share my insight.

The song is about a woman who grew up with a wonderful and happy childhood. So great that she filled up all this confidence and pride in herself. But she lost that happiness when she grew up and made bad choices that basically distanced her from her family. These were her choices though, "I had a way then losing it all on my own"
Because of these poor choices and her overconfidence leading to falling down, shes now depressed and giving up. She once saw herself as this proud perfect woman but not anymore. "I had a heart then, but the queen has been overthrown"

"Lights" is a metaphor for guidance or like traffic lights lighting the road ahead. The song is about a person who basically becomes the light to help the woman find her happiness and confidence again. Calling her home. Leading her out of the darkness and depression shes in and helping her along the path to regaining her strength as a woman.

Imagine Dragons – Natural Lyrics 5 years ago
Most people already know that Imagine Dragons are a Mormon Band and most of their songs have metaphorical religious meaning. Finding the religious meaning in this song is pretty black and white easy so that's likely why there are so little posts here, everyone already knows. But for the few of you who don't or just want to read an opinion. I'll write a simple explanation.

“Will you hold the line? When every one of them is giving up or giving in, tell me
In this house of mine? Nothing ever comes without a consequence or cost, tell me
Will the stars align? Will heaven step in? Will it save us from our sin? Will it? Cause this house of mine stands strong”

(The song is directed to the next generation, or the millennials. The line they are referring to is the line of tolerance. Moral values, and being a good person. There is a lot of hate and judgment coming from society and the world is filled with selfishness. In my opinion, the term “this house of mine” is referring to his people or his generation or his society. In today's society, the next generation is not upholding the values like we used to and are lowering the line. Things that were once considered wrong and immoral are being labeled as acceptable. This generation is giving up on trying to uphold those good things. The singer then asks God if He will save us.)

“That's the price you pay Leave behind your heartache, cast away Just another product of today
Rather be the hunter than the prey And you're standing on the edge, face up 'cause you're a... Natural A beating heart of stone. You gotta be so cold To make it in this world. Yeah, you're a natural
Living your life cutthroat. You gotta be so cold Yeah, you're a natural”

(This verse and chorus are regarding the fact that people feel that in order to be accepted in today’s society, they have to be ok with everything that's wrong. In their heart, they know that these things are wrong but they have to cast those feelings away in order to fit in and be accepted. They would rather be mean and hateful and judgmental than receive it from others.)

( the rest of the song follows the same theme. Imagine dragons use a lot of metaphors in their writing so it's up to interpretation but this is definitely the general tone and meaning of the song. How you interpret the individual lines and words is up to you. And I'm pretty sure they want it that way. They want people to be able to interpret the song in their own way and tie to their own life.)

Vertical Horizon – Everything You Want Lyrics 5 years ago
Yea I don't think it's about God or Jesus but the song definitely has that tone and feeling, kinda like a woman is stuggling in life and refuses to get help from Jesus who loves her. I think it's the same scenario but the song is about a man or friend who loves her, not Jesus. Woman who have caotic broken lives tend to resist the people who try to help them escape them. They hate their life but they are afraid of escaping it and will often tell you that they don't know why.

Natasha Bedingfield – Pocketful of Sunshine Lyrics 6 years ago
So I think this song is pretty clear and faith is the general topic of the "pocket full of sunshine" Now it good be faith in God, Faith in Love, or faith in herself, I don't know, but it's definitely faith. Faith is basically like a second realm that doesn't exist on Earth. It purely exists by belief. It can't be proved or argued or scientificaly identified it's a trust in the unknown. When we have faith in ourslves it acts as courage and strength to live life not knowing what will come next. It's also a confidence that allows us to see who we are as a perfect version of ourself. As humans we often let fear and doubt and vulnerability make us feel bad about ourselves. But having faith in ourselves helps us see past all that. It's a joy and happiness that comes from a pure love of ones self. That's how I see it anyways.

Theophilus London – I Stand Alone Lyrics 6 years ago
Can't believe nobody has posted on this song, it's such an amazing song. I'm gonna do my best to interpret the lyrics on the words alone since I know nothing about this artist.

"The journey starts beneath the stars I stand alone"
(Sounds the like the journey is his success as a rapper. It was a dream he saw in the stars but he stood alone in the fact that nobody supported him.)

"i put all my fears to all these years,
Swept away they're known"
(Maybe he had fear of failure and used this fear to work hard for success all these years. And they were swept away in the fact that he's not given credit for his hard work.)

"And know I run this town to be near you
No gray skies has ever turned blue"
(This sounds like he's saying all his work has been for this success, even though things have never gotten easier for him.)

I stand alone
I stand alone
I stand alone
I stand alone

"The rain is phenomenal, the way that it falls
Slammin' down like a domino and lay in the moss"
(These lyrics are metaphorically clear. The challenges in life are phenomenal, the way they fall right into place like Domino's and then stay there like a milestone that leads to his success.)

"Today is a new day, I'm lookin' for new prey
I'm tryin' to survive, tryin' to take in this love so"
(He has embraced being alone and the chalenges he's facing is loving them. Trying to survive and keep his succes Eager for more challenges)

"The clothes don't make the man
It's the man that makes the clothes"
(Who you are isn't how others see you it's the image you choose to portray)

"And if this war doesn't end there's nothing left to fight
And I'm sure you'll have it tonight and "
(It sounds like hes saying his success has the victory of war by not fighting it. He's not competing with other artists for fame. He's won by finding success in his own work and challenges.)

I stand alone
I stand alone
I stand alone
(And know I run this town to be near you)
I stand alone
(Gray skies never turn blue)

"It's the skill and the confidence
The will and the dominance
The deeper you get, the more the revert is prominent
(This is a very famous scientific study of a man's will to change habit and nature. With the dedication and hard work, a man can change his way of life and future which is what the artists is talking about with his success)

When Uncle Sam knock on door
I tell him that I'm headed for the dock on the shore
Sailin' away, are you comin' with?
Just pack for the stay, 'cause we're finna get, get (heh)
(The Uncle Sam thing represents life thowing curve balls that can often force change. But the artists is saying that hes the captain of his boat "life" and others can go with him.)

The war don't end there's nothing left to fight
And I'm sure you'll have it tonight
'Til I stand alone

It starts beneath the stars I stand alone
I put all my fears to all these years, swept away they're known
And know I run this town to be near you
And no gray skies ever turn blue

Well that's my interpretation. Pretty much sounds like a rap song about an artists success and the fact that he made it all on his own.

Breaking Benjamin – Breath Lyrics 10 years ago
I finally figured out the meaning of this song after listening to it about 30 times. I'll break it down lyric by lyric.
"I see nothing in your eyes, And the more I see the less I like"
So this song is basically describing a relationship between and man and his lover (Wife, girlfriend ,ex, not sure) The two have been together for a while but the relationship isn't going well because the man (the one singing) has problems and is mean and abusive. The woman however has gone through a troubled life and doesn't believe she deserves better. Shes shallow and has very little self of esteem so she puts all her love, trust, and hope in this man despite his abusive nature. At this point the man is realizing how much he loves her and that he wants her to have a happy life which he needs to let her go but its hard. He still loves her and she loves him. Hes frustrated at himself and is wanting to break the entire relationship but she keeps saying no.
"Is it over yet? In my head?"
You see how these lyrics have question marks. the man is actually asking himself these. "Is it over yet" This is painful for him to go through and he just wants it be over with. "In my head" hes thinking about the options and outcomes and if the problems are all just in his head. His conscious is eating at him.
"I know nothing of your kind, And I won't reveal your evil mind"
The man grew up with constant pain, anger and suffering and that's all he knows. Its why hes the he is now. Hes not used to having someone in his life that unconditionally loves him. He realizes how wonderful she is and doesn't want to change her. hes afraid that staying with him will make her dysfunctional as well.
"Is it over yet? I can't win!"
Same thing here he just wants the whole charade to be over with. He's frustrated because he cant win either way. Either shes stays and is unhappy, or she goes which makes him unhappy.
"So sacrifice yourself And let me have what's left I know that I can find A fire in your eyes I'm going all the way Get away, please!"
"Hes yelling at her now trying to convince her that sacrificing their love is the only way she can be happy. She gave her heart to him and she has to give that up and move on. "let me have whats left" Whatever there is left between us just give to me and go. Remember how he said he saw there was nothing in her eyes, he was saying that there was no life or passion in her anymore. "I know that I can find A fire in your eyes" he knows that there's still life and passion in her and letting her go will allow her to find that with somebody else. "I'm going all the way Get away, please!" Hes saying this the last straw, i'm getting to my worst rage in anger and frustration. Hes so desperate to free her that hes threatening her now to leave or really get hurt.
"You take the breath right out of me You left a hole where my heart should be
You've gotta fight just to make it through 'Cause I will be the death of you"
This is him telling her sincerely that he loves her so much hes willing to let her go. As much as he loves her, it broke his heart to see her this way. to the point that he no longer has a heart, its just an empty hole left their by her. She has to fight through this, Shes struggling to let things go because shes afraid. Hes begging her to go because she can have new life and passion without him. "Cause I will be the death of you!"
The rest is repetitive and pretty self explaining.
Hope you guys liked that, that's my interpretation and I feel prety good about it. feel free to disagree and comment if you like.

Creed – My Sacrifice Lyrics 11 years ago
I believe the song is most definitely about Jesus, I honestly cant possibly think of a another possible meaning other than maybe him going to heaven to seeing a loved one again.
"When you are with me, I'm free, I'm careless, I believe. Above all the others we'll fly,This brings tears to my eyes, My sacrifice."
This spells it all out, when he feels the love of god within him he is no longer chained down to his past and present. This means his slate is clean and he can go onward freely without worrying what happened in the past, and what it might cause in the future. He has been forgiven for his sins and has been reborn as a new man. He no longer has to worry about everyone else in his life and they may think about him or what he has done because none of that matters now. He's so happy tears are coming from his eyes. This is the sacrifice he is making. He is sacrificing his old sinful self, giving it up forever. Casting it away as he starts anew. Just like Jesus did when died on the cross for our sins, and cast away his life to be reborn 3 days later and then ascend to heaven. That is what we are doing as the children of god, accepting him into our hearts and giving up our selves so that one day we will also ascend to heaven and be with him.
This song is a prayer, and it is easy to understand when you know it's intent. As epic and powerful as this song is, it simply a man on his knees praying to God. Like me, sometimes we just want to say hello and thank God for everything hes done in our lives.

My interpretation, not the 100% factual meaning. Hope like it feel free to comment.

Breaking Benjamin – Dance With The Devil Lyrics 11 years ago
As soon as I heard the song and really started thinking about its meaning I saw a man dancing in a ball room with a beautiful woman in a red dress. While slowly dancing the woman whispers something in the man’s ear. The woman is seducing the man to come back to her place and sleep with her, the only problem with that is the man happens to be married. Unfortunately the marriage isn’t going well and there is a lot of stress and disappointment in the man’s life which leads to depression. To deal with this the man has been drinking, doing drugs, going out to parties, steeling, gambling, flirting, basically all the sinful habits of the meaningless bachelor life. He’s so deep in shame from all of this and all of the lies he tells his wife he decides there is absolutely no chance of going back to the good honest life he used to have. So here he is dancing in the ball room, thinking about committing one the greatest sins of all, adultery…
The person talking in the song is the man, only it’s his inner conscience talking to him.
“Close your eyes so many days go by”. I think he’s been keeping his eyes closed while life goes by, almost like he’s avoiding it for some reason; maybe because he is ashamed or afraid of what he has to face.
“Easy to find what’s wrong, harder to find what’s right”. I think he’s realizing that because it’s so easy to fall into temptations and doing these things that wrong, doing the right thing is starting to become difficult.
“I believe in you I can show you I can see right through all your empty lies”. He’s telling himself that there is still good in him. You don’t have to do this. You don’t have to keep on lying. They are not you’re your answers. Remember how it was before all of this. I can show you that again.
“I won't stay long, in this world so wrong”. Again his conscience is talking to him, telling him that the good in wont last much longer if he keeps living like this.
“Say goodbye, as we dance with the devil tonight. Don't you dare look at him in the eye, as we dance with the devil tonight”. His conscience is warning him, “This is it, you’re about to make a choice that will change your life forever. Don’t look him in the eye, don’t even think about it, don’t fall for her! Your dancing with the devil here, you need to stop!”
“Trembling, crawling across my skin, feeling your cold dead eyes stealing the life of mine”. He is nervous and scared as the temptation rises. I can imagine the woman pushing her body up to his. She is like a mythical siren, sucking him into her trap. The temptation is staring right at him and the more he looks at it the more tempting it is to him. It is stealing his life away, almost as if he’s turning into a zombie or caught in a trance.
Then it comes to the last part, “Hold on, Hold on”. This part is obvious, His conscience is screaming at him, begging him to hold on, stop, to think about this.

Well this is just how I see it. Hope it painted a picture for you like it did for me.

Creed – One Last Breath Lyrics 11 years ago
For me the meaning of the song is very clear, but I can probably understand based on the fact that I've gone through the same situation.
The song paints a story, in my mind I see a middle-aged man who is at a point in his life where everything seems pointless. He may have lost his wife, has no close friends, hates his job, and has nothing to believe in. Tired and depressed, he decides to look to god and the bible for help. He asks the lord for a change in his life and an opportunity for happiness. A week or so goes by and nothing seems to happen so he loses his faith and gives up on trusting god. Every where he goes hes sad, and every sees sadness in him. To the point where he decides to stop the depression and sadness. The Man walks over to the edge of a tall building and considers jumping. But right before he does, he decides to say one last prayer to god, just in case their is a something left for him in this world... This song is his prayer:
"Please come now I think I'm falling
I'm holding on to all I think is safe"
-Please show yourself to me God, My life is becoming meaningless and I'm trying to hold onto the few things that make my feel safe and that I belong.
"It seems I found the road to nowhere
And I'm trying to escape"
-I'm stuck in this rut and im going nowhere, and I'm trying to find the right path
"I yelled back when I heard thunder
But I'm down to one last breath
And with it let me say, let me say"
- I tried to live and move on when i dealt with my life struggles, but I cant take it anymore. This is my last cry of hope, and I want you what I have to say..
"Hold me now
I'm six feet from the edge and I'm thinking
Maybe six feet ain't so far down"
-(This is a little difficult to interpret) I feel like hes asking god to hold him and stop him from jumping. If a normal person was close to falling off a cliff they would freak out and back up, but because the man is thinking of suicide, hes not afraid. hes thinking maybe this inst that crazy of an idea.
"Sad eyes follow me"
- Nobody seems to show any interest in him, the only people who look at him and think about him become sad, because they amuse he has a sad difficult life.
"But I still believe there's something left for me"
-Hes hoping that there's still an important reason for him to continue living.
"So please come stay with me
'Cause I still believe there's something left for you and me
For you and me for you and me"
-This is the climax of the song, Hes asking god into his heart to stay because he believes that god is his last hope and god can give him a purpose. "Between you and me" His purpose lies in the love of him and God.

Well, that's my interpretation, I love this song and it seems very clear to me. I've been in the same situation where you feel like you have nothing left to live for you just someone to tell you your wrong.
I hope you guys liked it and feel free to comment on it

Flyleaf – I'm So Sick Lyrics 12 years ago
Hi Guys I have the real meaning to this song because I've talked to band about their music.

I'll go ahead and make sure this post has a large box size so everyone can see it.

First of all I haven't read all of the posts so if anyone has already posted this then... well I'm just agreeing with you.

Second, for those that dont know already, Flyleaf is a Christian Heavy Rock Band, so pretty much all of the songs they make contain somewhat religious content.

The sickness that she talking about is the sickness within her heart, and.
Like my all time favorite band, Skillet, Flyleaf often has songs about Satan, sin, and selfness, which is briefly living for yourself and not for god. If you want an example of songs with Satan, i'd listen to "Open Wounds by Skillet". For sin and selfness, listen to "Monster" by Skillet.

Between those three, this song would fall under the category of Satan and selfness. I know this can hard to understand so I looked for other christian songs that could better describe what "the sickness of Satan and Self" really is.

these are the best songs that I found.

D.C. Talk: In The Light - Great Song! good for this.
Mercy Me: So Long Self - Another good example for self
Skillet: It's Not Me It's You - Perfect for this! Its about how Satan and sin has poisoned him and caused so much pain in his life.

It's defiantly easier to understand from a christian view but i promise you this is the song meaning.
while I'm not sure exactly every bit ad word meaning, I know the intent of the song cuz they said it at their concert at my church.

OK, so here's my personal break down, again, its not perfect, but it works with the overall song intent.

"I will break into your thoughts
With what's written on my heart
I will break, break"
(this is the sickness of Satan, Satan gives us bad thoughts and desires, we know that they are wrong, but if are hearts are not strong enough, then they break through and we submit to them.)

"I'm so sick,
Infected with where I live
Let me live without this
Empty bliss,
Selfishness
I'm so sick
I'm so sick"
(this pretty easy to understand, the part "where I live" I think is a metaphor for where he heart is.)

"If you want more of this
We can push out, sell out, die out
So you'll shut up
And stay sleeping
With my screaming in your itching ears"
(this is Satan again. Hes saying to stop fighting him and give in to his will on her heart, by threatening her with the pain she feels.

" Hear it, I'm screaming it
You're heeding to it now"

"Hear it! I'm screaming it!
You tremble at this sound"
(She is now screaming NO! to Satan and fighting him. In the bible it said that the one thing Satan fears most is God so i think shes screaming for God, knowing that Satan will back off.)

"You sink into my clothes
And this invasion
Makes me feel
Worthless, hopeless, sick"

(By now you can probably understand the content here. I think clothes are a metaphor for "outer skin" or the way people now see her.
The invasion are the multiple struggles in her life that Satan is using to make her depressed and now feels "Worthless, hopeless, sick")

so that's it, my interpretation. please feel free to comment and god bless.
