Air Supply – Making Love Out Of Nothing At All Lyrics 6 years ago

@[songman3367:23705]

Here an updated comment, with typos some corrected and more clarity.

As usual most of the interpretations are dead wrong. So here is the actual meaning.

The songwriter isn't really a player, nor is it a plea to win her heart. He is saying that he knows how to employ tactics to make women love him. He knows how to play the game. He knows what to say to her and where to touch her and when to lie, etc. He can also make the stadiums rock, as he is a superstar and women fall for him because he is famous and talented. This isn't necessarily dishonest on his part, but for him, it is part of the process of getting a woman to love him. And this is not uncommon. Women, more so than men, report that the want to hear men say certain things and have a man behave a certain way. The songwriter is saying to the woman that she uses no tricks. He just falls in love with her for who she is, naturally, and perhaps for how she physically looks, but physical looks is not not something she strategizes about, really. OK. OK. She wears make up and doesn't look like an SJW, but her beauty is natural. She makes love out of nothing at at, meaning that she makes him love her without using tactics and strategies. And this is not uncommon, ether. Men, more so than women, are more likely to say that they believe in love at first sight. Men, can "fall in love" just from looking at a woman. Women, on average, report needing more...security, commitment, etc. My opinion here is based on mounds of psychological research in attraction.

Keith write the song. It was not written by Mick and it was not for Angela Bowie. Here is what Keith said about the song:

Keith cleared it up in his 2010 autobiography Life, where he wrote: "While I was in the [Vevey drug] clinic (in March-April 1972), Anita was down the road having our daughter, Angela. Once I came out of the usual trauma, I had a guitar with me and I wrote 'Angie' in an afternoon, sitting in bed, because I could finally move my fingers and put them in the right place again, and I didn't feel like I had to s--t the bed or climb the walls or feel manic anymore. I just went, 'Angie, Angie.' It was not about any particular person; it was a name, like ohhh, Diana. I didn't know Angela was going to be called Angela when I wrote 'Angie.' In those days you didn't know what sex the thing was going to be until it popped out." (thanks, Bertrand - Paris, France)

Okay Mr. Research. You're correct that David Bowie's had a wife named Angie. I had a girlfriend in 1986 named Angie, too. And you know what? The stones' song isn't about either fucking one of them. So, please provide me with the simple research that shows Angie was written for Angela Bowie. You won't find it. If you could provide evidence to back up your claim, that would be great. It really only matters what Mick and Keith said, since they wrote it. Please provide references for where either one of them says the song is about Angela Bowie. It is not about her. I repeat, it is not about her. It is for Keith's woman, Anita.

Jesus. What Angela Bowie claims and what reality is are likely two very different things. She is a horrific looking beast. No one could have written a song for her. Angie is not about her for the millionth fucking time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Waylon Jennings – Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way? Lyrics 10 years ago
All comments by others about the meaning of this song are wrong. Allow me to clarify. The song was written by Waylon. As a child and teenager, Waylon idolized Hank. He sat by his radio at night, so excited to hear Hank's latest song. Later he saw Hank on television. He thought, "Wow! Look at Hank singing with his guitar! How exciting! What a life! I'm going to do that someday!"

Then Waylon actually did start doing it. But it wasn't exciting and easy after a while. Making records was often boring and difficult. Touring was very rigorous. It wasn't fun. It was boring. Record companies preached about what they wanted. Fans want to hear hits. Night after night it is the same shit. So, Waylon is saying "This isn't fun. It is hard. It looked fun for Hank. I thought it would be fun for me. It isn't. Did Hank really do it this way? He couldn't have done it this way. Because I thought he was living the greatest life possible, seeing him on stage with his guitar."

Waylon is borded and tired of his music and of touring, but as a kid seeing Hank do it, he never thought it would be boring and difficult. So he is asking, are you sure it was boring and difficult for Hank.

It wasn't a response to Southern Man. It is a response to Neil Young's song Alabama on Harvest. The song Alabama by Young trashes the state of Alabama. The Song Southern Man is trashing those who mistreated slaves. The line about " a Southern man don't need him around" was just thrown is as a pun. This is the biggest misunderstanding regarding what a song is about, next to "Angie" was written by Mick for Angela Bowie." Angie has nothing to do with Angela Bowie.

The song is NOT a response to Southern Man. It is a response the Neil's song Alabama. They just threw in a line about Southern Man because Neil wrote Southern Man years earlier, a song about slavery. The song Alabama pisses all over the state, saying it is a shit-hole. Sweet Home Alabama is in response to Alabama, which is on Harvest.

I checked out the post here just to see how long it would be before some moron said it was about Angela Bowie. The very first post I saw, said it. And many posts after it say it was about Angela Bowie. Let me clarify: THIS SONG HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ANGELA BOWIE. If anyone can find me a direct quote from either Jagger or Richards saying that it does, then please let me know. But you won't find such a quote, because I've read all their quotes about the song and they both say it has nothing to do with Angela Bowie. Angela Bowie said it has nothing to do with her, other than the name of the woman in the song shares her first name. Jagger has commented several times that it has nothing to do with her. Keith wrote the original lyric, which was "Anita, I need ya..." His girlfriend was Anita P. Mick re-wrote it to Angie because it was softer to pronounce. Keith also has a daughter named Angie, who had been born at the time the song was written.

Johnny Cash – The One On The Left Is On The Right Lyrics 12 years ago
As usual, several people have f**ked up interpretations, among other relevant facts, such as the song writer. Allow me to elaborate. Jack Clement wrote the song. The one on the right ended up being a bank tell, which makes sense, as he is the conservative one. The one in the middle drove the truck. He has a steady job like a conservative, but is a rebel and free on the road, as a liberal. The one on the left ended up working as an all-night DJ, like drifters often do.

They were a great folk band, but they fought because of different political views. The three in the front fought, the one in the rear, presumably the drummer, was an idiot. He burned his drivers licence. This is comical, as people were known to burn their draft cards. The drummer, being an idiot, made a mistake.

The night of the brawl on stage, during the fight, the guy in the rear said "Oh, dear!" Johnny says this in an effeminate voice, the type of voice often associated with being a gay man. The joke here is that the drummer, on top of f**king up and not knowing where he really stands or what to do, is gay, which at the time of this song was a political statement on its own. So not only does he avoid the fight, as an effeminate gay man might be more inclined to do, he reacts to it like a woman, saying, "Oh, dear!"

The point of the entire song is not that politics and music shouldn't mix. It is that drummers are idiots. Case in point: Ringo Starr, John Bonham, Keith Moon, John Densmore, Mick Fleetwood, Don Henley, and Phil Collins.
