"silver eyes" makes me think of his ex-gf Rebecca Moore - she has very light gray/blue eyes. He also mentions her "silver eyes" in an older song from 1992 called In The Cantina "fill my head like her silver eyes". There's another small connection between this song and Nightmares by the Sea. In both songs (but only during the live versions) he repeats a line: You and I - found you in the morning capsized Nightmares - I found her in the morning capsized. |

I disagree with this ^ Billy also wrote songs like Luna and Beautiful about Chris, and those are very romantic and loving. The songs he wrote about their divorce (Perfect, Medellia, Valentine) are so sad. I don't think you write songs like that unless you're really heartbroken. | So pretty and soothing. Easy to see why many fans would assume it's about the birth of Dave's daughter, but the song was recorded over a year before his baby was born. More than likely it's about his wife. Some of the songs on In Your Honor suggest Dave's marriage was going through a rough spot, so maybe this was his way of reaffirming his faith and love. | |
