Tears for Fears – Me And My Big Ideas Lyrics 3 years ago
Grabs the #1 spot for most haunting melody I’ve ever heard. Roland cheated, that’s what this album is mainly about- him trying to convince his wife to stay. I assume she was quite depressed so he took her to a therapist or psychiatrist, to “see inside her mind.” And says they can do that because they are “kind,” unlike he describes himself. We all have moments where we have said in life, “...great, me and my big ideas...” it means he’s given/is giving a lot of effort to get her to stay but keeps failing. Also, “in a way, this dream is over, blown away, a 4 leaf clover.” Refers to “And this is my, 4 leaf clover...” in Head Over Heels which would almost be a juxtaposition to this song.

Tears for Fears – Raoul And The Kings Of Spain Lyrics 3 years ago
To the highest rated comment, yes, Roland had an affair in 1993 which led to him recording not only this song but more specifically, “Sorry,” “Secrets,” and “I Choose You.” His wife was ready to leave him and a lot of this album is him writing about trying to get her to stay.
RATKOS... yes Raoul, his eldest son, was one when this came out in ‘95. The song deals with matters of family...how marriage will always result in conflict, and there’s no way to escape “seek asylum” from marital and family bounds. But still men and women thirst for each other like the desert and the sea. I think this is Raoul’s song, he sings as if he’s telling a child about where moms and dads come from.... and yes, Roland is Spanish and Argentinian, but lives in England.

Tears for Fears – Cold Lyrics 3 years ago
I’m friends with Roland’s brother Julian, who sings in this song and also helped write and produce it. I’ve met Roland. Roland is not a warm person. I was warned by Julian when I met Roland NOT to run up and hug him, for example... (he was actually quite kind and I think had I hugged him, it would have been fine). Anyway, a woman wrote Roland a letter, I can’t recall the contents but basically looking up to him in this letter as if he was a God to her or something, reference to “Buddha,” and he’s like, me? I haven’t got a clue.” So he responded to her in a way similar to what the song describes, kinda like ‘lady, I don’t know, leave me alone.’ The woman writes him back again and says “how can you be so cold?” to Roland. There’s your song. Nockles is also reference to Nikki Holland, a friend of his in the music biz.

The Goo Goo Dolls – What A Scene Lyrics 3 years ago
Something I think most of us can relate to...An individual in their early 20’s who is disillusioned
regarding living by your own means in society; in the real world. They’ve seen this step in life where you cut the cord and leave home as this “sweet” thing; the freedom is portrayed in the media and perhaps heard about by friends as glamorous and exciting. They find out once they do leave home that the truth is, getting through the real world while trying to figure out who you are and what your place is in this world is hard as hell. So take it day by day, take it easy, until you learn to make it on your own.
When I moved into my first apartment after college, this song was my “pop radio screamin down the halls...” :)

Duran Duran – Save A Prayer Lyrics 12 years ago
My interpretation is that this song is about a one night stand with a woman (possibly famous), and hoping she doesn't get pregnant.
"You saw me standing by the wall corner of a main street
And the lights are flashing on your window sill
All alone ain't much fun so you're looking for the thrill
and you know just what it takes and where to go."

Later there is a lyric about taking a chance and he even says:
"Some people call it a one night stand but we can call it paradise"

The chorus has to do with praying that she won't get pregnant. Save a prayer till the morning after.

What do you guys think?
