Maroon 5 – She Will Be Loved Lyrics 12 years ago
I've always loved Maroon 5, and this song can make me cry.

If you watch the video for this song, it's clear that Adam (singer) is in a relationship with a girl. However, he has feelings for and cares deeply about his girlfriend's mother. Her mother is in a relationship with a man who abuses her (hits her etc.) and Adam wants her to be happy and wants to make her feel special and treat her how she deserves... ("I wanna make you feel beautiful").

He is stuck between the girl and her mother but we get the impression that he cares more for the mother. And by the expressions on the mother's face and her body language whenever Adam is with her daughter, we sense that the feeling is mutual, and that she possibly wants to be with him.

The only thing that confuses me is how he says "beauty queen of only 18" which obviously, can't be about the mother... he must be on about his girlfriend... so why does he mention that? Or maybe, since it sounds like he's telling a story, he's explaining that this has been going on for a long time, so maybe since back when the mother was 18, and he knows this, and has always felt this way. Maybe he got together with her daughter to get close to her mother.

But before I watched the video, I had a different theory...

He's talking about a "beauty queen" who is eighteen years old and she's had "trouble with herself." Problems such as relationship/financial problems maybe? Herself and Adam could've had a continuous love affair which was kind of an on and off thing. But due to the problems she was facing in her life, she resorted to prostitution. Which explains how he's "had" her "so many times." He says he wants more, which could mean the obvious - more sex, or more as in more than a physical relationship. He probably cares for her very deeply and is probably in love with her. "I know where you hide, alone in your car" - maybe she has nowhere to sleep (fincancial problems again) and sleeps in her car.

You get the idea... :3

Pendulum – Witchcraft Lyrics 12 years ago
Maybe she was raped, then killed?

______________________________

"It's in your eyes, a color fade out
Looks like, a new transition
It's starting up, and shaking your ground
Turning your head to see a new day calling"
- she might've fell in love, or had a temporary crush on someone, and it was changing her as a person, her life. The "new transition" being that change. "It's starting up" suggests that it's early days, and merely the start of a new relationship/affair.

"Does it feel like a head to lean on?
A snapshot from where you were born
I'm looking for your hand in the rough
You're caught in the wire
Well I'll lift you up"
- The singer is asking how it feels to be overwhelmed by the woman's new love interest. "A head to lean on" being the love interest - a shoulder to cry on, someone who will be there for her, maybe?

"A snapshot from where you were born" could possibly referring to the memory of her parents being in love during her childhood, or it could be a reference to fairytales and happy endings, that kind of thing, as it relates to childhood. He could be asking if she thinks it's true love.
It's almost as if even though he asks her those questions, he's not really interested. He might be trying to get her to see sense, that something isn't right, perhaps.

"I'm looking for your hand in the rough" ...maybe he's saying that he's trying to reach her and get her to realise that something's wrong.

"You're caught in the wire," meaning that she's overwhelmed by this feeling, caught up in it, in fact.

And finally, "well, I'll lift you up" sounds like he's saying that he'll make her see straight/realise, and he'll help her overcome the pain/grief that comes with that realisation. I guess he cares about her.

The lyrics later on in the song suggest she's abused in some way. ("bleeding," "not breathing," for example)

It seems that she's vulnerable at one point, when she's "in the bedroom." The singer must be watching over her or something, idk. This might be the point at which she is raped. The "tiger" in the bedroom (if they are the correct lyrics), could be the rapist.

But of course, she's discovered to not be breathing later, which suggests the idea that she's killed shortly after being raped.

I think the reason for the singer switching from "*you've* gotta get out" to "*we've* gotta get out" is to do with the fact that at first, he's just looking out for her and advising her to escape and stuff, but towards the end when she's found not breathing, he feels like he has to get involved and help her, so they're in it together...

got kinda lazy towards the end xD but yeah.

I think the song is to do with losing yourself, in a way, like depression, possibly, or something similar. I won't go into every single word of the song but here's an interpretation of mine:

"When I'm falling down" - becoming depressed, changing, losing yourself, you get the jist.

And then, "Will you pick me up again?" - the need to have someone there, wanting someone who will pick you up, or save or rescue you from this (metophorically), dark place, or depression.

"When I'm staring down the barrel" - personally, I'd say the "barrel" is most likely the barrel of a gun. The gun symbolises suicide/death/destruction. This could mean that the narrator/singer is considering suicide, about to commit suicide, or is in a mental state where all they can see is evil and it's destroying them.

"When I cannot see your face" - they want to be helped but it's going to take a lot to help/save them, and they're asking to be helped even when they can't see a light at the end of the tunnel, when they can't see a way out of their misery, etc...

and, "Take me out of here" quite clearly, is them asking to be saved.

"All I believe and all I've known
Are being taken from me, can't get home.
Lead to a world where worlds collide,
Let the fear collapse, bring no suprise
Take me out of here"
[I corrected some of the lyrics as to how I hear them...]

In the above verse, the singer is describing his current experience, or his mental state. Everything he's known is being "taken" from him, like none of it means anything anymore. Everything he's ever known, (or at least thought he knew) is now wrong, and everything he's ever believed in is fake.

The "world" he's been lead to could also represent the dark mental state he is currently in.

He wants the "fear" to "collapse" because he wants it all to end, I suppose. He doesn't want to be in this position anymore, he doesn't want to be scared anymore.

I think the repetion of "take me out of here" emphasises how strongly he wants to basically, be ok again, and how he wants to overcome this depression.

He then changes his point of view in this verse:

"Just stay where you are.
Let your fear subside
Just stay where you are
If there's nothing to hide"

It seems that he feels like he can overcome the problems he's facing at this point, and for once, he feels strong and able. It's like he's talking to other people in the same situation that they can overcome it, too.

"If there's nothing to hide" - (possibly) meaning that the way you feel, the way you think and percieve things right now, none of it's real. It's some sort of illusion you've created in your mind, and depression does this kind of thing to people. I think he's talking about realising that you've created this unnecessary mess (not that you're to be blamed for it) and that you are able to defeat it, because there's nothing stopping you...

what do you think? :-)
