GOD, I'm glad you brought that up. I love his voice in this song. Its so sincere and raw---its like you know he was feeling it when he sang it. Totally agree with you, I don't think I could've have said that any better myself.

you've no idea how much that made sense to me. i thought the song was about a daydreamer as well, someone who was describing the perfect man and could only hope that he would turn up 'sitting on her doorstep' waiting for her. can't help it but feel the same way sometimes. anyway, i love the song to bits and pieces. |

God, I had a buddy who used this song to break up with someone. Won him some major "you got a shit load of balls" points, I'll give him that. Also won him a beating from a pack of ravenous women. Though personally, if I were the lady I'd be laughing the entire time---pissed, but laughing.
Anyway, yes it is quite clear what this song is about. I love every bit of this song, but I gotta say, my favorite part has to be his little opening in the beginning, when he says: "You know baby, I know you think we can make it all work out, but I gotta tell it like it is, I don't wanna make this any harder than it needs to be, so don't cry." oh god, that's beautiful. |

Oh man does this song bring back a flood of memories. I had a friend who would ask me to marry him constantly. It was a joke that irritated me to the point of no return, and I won't admit (vocally, at least) that some part of me did want to say yes. Anyway, when I'd finally snapped out of it and realized that this would turn into a pit I'd never be able to fill up I told him: "stop--please. stop asking me" and coincidentally, this song began to play on my itunes. That whistle still plays in my head every time we say hello, and needless to say I'm probably smitten. But oh well, its for another time. |
