This song's about the dynamics of a drama filled relationship. You know the types, where one (or both) feel the need to constantly create drama in a relationship and for no other reason that they're addicted to the drama. This guy's obviously on the receiving end of someone that loves to play games just go play them. He knows she does it just to drive him wild and he gets sick of it. And he knows that she knows he loves her so much that she can keep doing this to him. The funny thing is, the guy despite being sick of it, comes to terms with it and not only learns to live with it, but has convinced himself that something must be right for this drama to keep happening and resolving. |

This song has one of the most explosions of awesomeness on the entire album, right around the 2:56 mark, just melts your face.
But yeah, this is about having being your true self around others, but at the same time having a thick skin, like leather. You're cutting all ties, now and forever, so you're free to be yourself. Being up front showing even your enemy who you are. It's a call to be genuine. |

This song has an awesome opening hook.
This song makes me think of an obsessed fan, in this case a fan of a female performing artist, at one of the artist's concerts. He's just star struck, even simply by her name, a common reaction that obsessed fans will get when finally meeting the object of their obsession. He knows all her moves, he'll take care of her babies. He just doesn't want this night to end.
Funny thing is, I also see this song as a prequel to Digital Bath, for those that know what that song's about. |

The song is all about the hypocrisy and ignorance of most protesters. Protesters will sit around, rally and make a rucus, but will they really DO anything themselves about it? Oh no, they're quite content to just whine about it. from the comfort of safety.
"Melt in the sun" is referring to standing around outside, doing nothing but "melting in the sun" (they used this metaphor before in Old School Hollywood Baseball). "Hide in the sky" is to illustrate how far removed and how pompous these protesters are. By hiding in the sky, they're looking down on whatever they're protesting but also have no clue what it's like. They can conveniently stay safe from ever really doing anything about it by hiding in the sky.

This is about as simple of a Deftones song you'll ever come across. It's simply about two people, the song's narrator and the person he's speaking with, having an amazing night together. All the metaphor and imagery just point to this highly emotional, almost lovingly desperate, night where they have the best time ever. |

Guys, this one is pretty simple...it's Chino's torment about becoming a big star. Remember, this is the first album written after their fame exploded from Adrenaline.
He's bemoaning the shallow, ugly and soulless characteristics of celebrity status (Hey Vanity...). Then he's questioning whether he should do his own thing (ignore the fashion) or fall in line and act like the rest (go by the book). All he wants though, is for people to watch him and his art.
The prostitute line is another line about the shift from normal to celebrity life. The prostitute (the rock star side) is tripping out on something (climb back down from the floor). He doesn't want her to OD or die because then it'll ruin his "normal" relationship with his wife/gf.
Again, it's all about Chino's internal struggle with the transition to rock star status. |

This song's got a little bit of drugs and little bit of kinky to it. It's really about how Chino adores how they connect in those experiences. From the drugs in verse 1 "Cause you could die if you take it alone" means he's glad and happy that she's willing to share whatever it is they're doing together with him...To the kinky in verse 2 ..phone sex and video...he's all down for it and loves it. |

As many have said, this song is just pure sex. The singing, the music, the lyrics just make you want to fuck. Basically, he's just describing a scenario of a woman enticing him (crawl your knees off, creep across my skull) almost in a dancey way before having sex "shake my tomb" (tomb is also considered a place where someone lays...aka a bed..aka having sex on a bed.
This is why I love Chino and the deftones. So great at expressing the varying types of raw emotions and urges when it comes to lust and sex. |

To me, this is about the relationship and detachment of the famous and those that worship them and this guy gets it. The motivations and inspirations for whatever the famous person is doing is out of sync with what those who worship them may think. The famous person is able to affect those that worship them a certain, almost unintended way that doesn't necessarily match up with their own personal intentions. And the worst part is, the worshippers don't really even care about the inner workings of the individual they worship. They view the famous person a certain way and that's all that matters to them.

This song is all about rough/violent sex and this guy pretty much propositioning this girl to have a wild time. "You're red, soaking wet" is him saying, "I know you're as horny as I am" (red, soaking wet = aroused vagina...think about it). "I'm right next to you" is him saying "I'm game for some fun".
The chorus is pretty much just a representation of violent, pain inflicting devices to show this girl that he's down for the rough stuff.
The other verses are just pretty much suggestions on what they could do together should she say yes.
Pretty simple. The guy's super horny, thinks the girl is too and wants to a wild time. |
