INXS – Never Tear Us Apart Lyrics | 4 years ago |
Despite this being a love song, it's deeply spiritual. They use Jesus and Satan to convey this. That's why it mentions angels, living for a thousand years, and turning tears into wine. Good and evil, two worlds colliding. One can connect with it how they like. As a comment below stated, Romeo and Juliet is the perfect example. |
Otep – Tortured Lyrics | 10 years ago |
If you listened to Jonestown Tea, you would know. You would know. |
Otep – Tortured Lyrics | 10 years ago |
So you think one wouldn't actually enjoy being fondled? Hate to tell you, but some abused children actually enjoy being molested, find that it feels good..because, quite frankly, it does regardless of one's age. That's not to say that it is right, or that it doesn't hurt the child mentally. I know from personal experience. I was molested from the age of 3 to the age of 8. |
Otep – Nein Lyrics | 11 years ago |
This song need not be broken down piece by piece to understand it. It all ties together nicely, and the lyrics pretty well speak for themselves. It's all about our past, our scars and our pain... and how we should use it instead of allowing it to destroy us. |
Throwing Muses – Snakeface Lyrics | 11 years ago |
This song is about sex, and nothing more. Lovely metaphors. |

http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=2861 Here are song facts for this particular song and album. This song has nothing to do with addiction, but here we go again...people trying to link lyrics with addiction where they shouldn't be linked. |
Alice in Chains – Down In A Hole Lyrics | 11 years ago |
This song has nothing to do with addiction. I have no idea why, but people tend to find ridiculous ways to try and link lyrics with addiction simply because the writer was an addict. This has to do with the loss of a loved one, whether it be through an actual death or a perceived death. This man feels dead inside at the loss of his loved one. He's standing at the grave site holding onto rare flowers, waiting to throw them on top of her casket before they start shoveling the dirt on top of her. But...he feels like he's down there with her, dead..only longing to be buried in the tomb with her. He feels that the tomb would actually be a womb. Buried with her, he feels that he could actually bloom, that they could bloom...like seeds being planted. When he talks about eating the sun, she was his sun...he's feeling guilty of devouring every bit of her beauty. She was everything to him, his entire happiness. Once you lose a happiness like that, there's no way of tasting it again...that's how much she meant to him. |
Mazzy Star – Into Dust Lyrics | 11 years ago |
This is a song about a person who has left their loved one, whether it be through death or otherwise. Usually it's the other way around, usually it's the one who has been left that is put into song. Turning into dust means they're starting to 'forget' about each other, they're setting aside the memories, they're starting to move on to different things-different people. They're becoming strangers, they're turning into dust. |
Otep – Ghostflowers Lyrics | 12 years ago |
So basically, she's picking the dead parts out of her, the dead parts that her parents made her feel, on order to feel alive because she is living. |
Otep – Ghostflowers Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I meant to say *the black of her mother, not the back. |
Otep – Ghostflowers Lyrics | 12 years ago |
we're in-between, on the fence non-descript antagonists i'm in-between, on the fence non-descript antagonist! [They are neither dead or alive, and it's because that's how they feel. One side of them feels they should be dead because that's what the parents wanted, but the other side of them wants to be alive because they were already born, and they are, in fact, alive. They're antagonists, meaning..their existence, whether they feel it should be or not, pisses off their parents. They're hanging on the fence because they're not sure whether they should go one way or the other completely, to be dead or alive...they're just stuck in between.] i'll split you open & climb inside lose myself eaten alive [Basically, she wants to climb back inside the womb. The eaten alive part, I'm not sure of. It could go either way. She eats her mother alive, or the mother's hatred for her eats her alive. Either way, she gets lost in the back that's inside of her mother.] from seraphim! to nephilim! to exodus! [These children go from being angels, to falling from the heavens, to being led out. We think of our children as little angels, but because these children weren't wanted, they 'fell short' from being angels, and eventually were 'led out' or should I say 'cast out' by their parents.] she's picking ghostflowers from her soul she's clipping the wings of fallen angels! she's picking ghostflowers from her soul she's tonguing splinters of broken halos! [She's picking ghostflowers from her soul-I can't tell if this is the mother or the child. It could be the mother saying that she had a flower inside of her, a child, but now it's gone...it's dead. Or it could be the child saying-I was supposed to be this beautiful creature, but there's nothing in me worth wanting, all that should have been in me is dead, my parents killed it. I honestly think it's the child saying that she's picking the dead memories form her soul because she wants to feel alive, but those memories are making her feel dead inside.] from gelatin to specimen to emptiness [They are talking about the baby here, not the mother. The mother isn't even in this equation. The baby goes from gelatin, to specimen, to emptiness. Meaning, she went from being an embryo, to being a newborn, to being a child whose parents made her feel empty. I WILL BE AVENGED. [She will avenge her death, the death of herself. She didn't actually die, her parents made her feel dead inside.] we are the 1000 children of death [You don't have to actually be dead to feel dead. This is basically talking about all of the 'unwanted' children who had parents that treated them as if their existence meant nothing, as if they were a mistake.] I think that about sums up my opinion. |
Otep – Ghostflowers Lyrics | 12 years ago |
My opinion: And she's a killer and she's a keeper. [I think 'she's a killer' is talking about one of the parents trying to kill the unborn baby, more then likely the father because of her Wurd Becomes Flesh lyrics. However, the baby survives, so I'm thinking that's why 'she's a keeper' comes in...because the baby survived.] am i blurry in your vision was i just a poor decision cut me open with precision & we'll finger the incision [She asks of her parents: Can you see me or are you going to pretend I'm not alive? Was I a bad decision, is that why you tried to kill me? Cut me open and finger the incision...she's in pain because of these questions and to her, it feels as if they are cutting her open.] tell me what have i done (quid pro quo) [what have I done, I'm just a child that you created. What did I do to deserve this pain?] to watch you lose control [I think she means watching them treat her like shit when they should be loving her.] i will give you sanctuary in these hymns of Thanatos ... i will give you sanctuary! [The only way you will be protected, is through death, but it will be an easy death because you're my parent and a part of me does love you.] you want to see me burn i am living fire! you want to see me burn i am LIVING FIRE! [You wanted me to die, but I am living...and I am raging.] you will know me by the scars i bare you will know me by the hate i swear you will know me by the scars i bare shapeless vengeance! [I would rather decipher this backwards because it would be quicker and easier. She's going to come back to them for vengeance, vengeance without a shape...meaning no time and no specific way, so if it be years later, she's going to look very different to them, but they will know who she is by the scars she bears and the hate...because they are the ones that inflicted it.] we are the 1000 children of death. [I will get to this later, and becausae my comment will be long, I will post it in two parts.] |
Dio – The Last In Line Lyrics | 13 years ago |
We're off to the witch We may never never never come home But the magic that we'll feel Is worth a lifetime They took a path that wasn't acceptable by God, but they wanted to because they wanted to feel what it was like to sin. It was worth the lifetime, that feeling, but now they are facing judgment, and are standing last in line. God is undecided, so he makes them wait. |
Dio – Rainbow In The Dark Lyrics | 13 years ago |
He was left on his own, now he feels alone, like a rainbow in the dark. I like how he refers himself as a rainbow though, he knew how beautiful he was, how important he was. |
Dio – Holy Diver Lyrics | 13 years ago |
"Holy Diver You've been down too long in the midnight sea Oh what's becoming of me"- He took a dive into his religion, and he's been into it so long that it's starting to change the man he is. "Ride the tiger You can see his stripes but you know he's clean Oh don't you see what I mean"- I consider tigers to be fierce and beastly. This one is clean, he's basically riding along his religion, accepting it as it is. "Gotta get away Holy Diver"- He wants to lose his religion, and he does. "Shiny diamonds Like the eyes of a cat in the black and blue Something is coming for you"- This makes me think the devil is coming for him, and it's going to leave him black and blue...or shall I say damaged. "Race for the morning You can hide in the sun 'till you see the light Oh we will pray it's all right"- He wants to escape the devil and get back into the light with his religion. He regrets every leaving it. "Between the velvet lies There's a truth that's hard as steel The vision never dies Life's a never ending wheel"- The devil is a liar, his lies are like velvet, people tend to fall easily. But, the truth is hard as steel, which means it can't be hidden, and he sees it even through the lies the devil hands him. His religion never dies, it's a never ending wheel. "Holy Diver You're the star of the masquerade No need to look so afraid"- a masquerade is a costume party. He's the main part of the show, he's the one having to face his religion and whether or not to leave it behind. He's still afraid, he doesn't know what to do. "Jump on the tiger You can feel his heart but you know he's mean Some light can never be seen"- He jumps back on the tiger, back on his path of religion. With the devil, no light can be seen. |
Alice in Chains – Down In A Hole Lyrics | 13 years ago |
"Down in a hole and I don't know if I can be saved. See my heart I decorate it like a grave."-- He's heartbroken, he hides his heart beneath flowers because he doesn't want anyone to get inside. He's in a hole, he's hit rock bottom when it comes to love. "Look at me now a man who won't let himself be."-- He won't let himself be loved again. "I have been guilty Of kicking myself in the teeth. I will speak no more of my feelings beneath."-- He feels he is to blame for the breakup because he spoke about his true feelings, so he will no longer share them with anyone. He's kicking himself in the teeth. "Bury me softly in this womb Oh I want to be inside of you I give this part of me for you."-- He's basically saying he will give you sex, but nothing more. This is the only part of me I will give..that's basically what I think he's saying. |
Bush – Alien Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I also forgot to mention... "and when you rain down in your cinematic love truck" like I said, she's expressing herself through action...cinematic makes me think of something that is visual, like movie films. Love truck...she's riding. Basically, she's on top...her sweat pouring down on him. That's why I think he uses the saying--- and when you rain down. the sweat is rain. |
Evanescence – My Immortal Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I think this is about a loved one committing suicide, a boyfriend that left behind a child, their child. now i'm bound by the life you left behind your face, it haunts my once pleasant dreams I think what she's saying here... the child reminds her so much of him because the child carries so much of his facial characteristics, so the nightmares of his death continue to haunt her in her sleep. I believe it was suicide because of this part here: when you cried i'd wipe away all of your tears when you'd scream i'd fight away all of your fears i held your hand through all of these years I think she was trying to save him from whatever demons he was trying to face. When she says-but you still have all of me...I think she's angry that she was in a position to care for his depression in such a way. Being with someone like that tends to take a lot out of you, and no matter how much she hated taking care of his emotional needs, he still has a part of her, she still loved him no matter what. Such a powerful song. |
Megadeth – Family Tree Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This song is about incest, that's why it's called family tree. Had it not been family tree, the rest of the lyrics would still suggest child sexual abuse, but I would question who the abuser was. |
Bush – Alien Lyrics | 13 years ago |
"well the satellite comes and goes"-The reception is going in and out on the stereo. "we give each other all we know"-they still give to each other because music isn't needed. "in silence we still talk by the light of the stereo waltz"-the light is still on onthe stereo even though it's not playing. They're still giving to each other, talking, being intimate. "and when you rain down in your cinematic love truck"-cinematic love truck to me refers to her expressing her love through action. "and she come to take me away. it' all that i needed. i don' breathe another lover."-she's taking him away, he's getting lost in the moment, in the passion while they make love. "flicker on the tv screen. everything's more than it seems. mighty backward fall. stare at the light on the wall."-this is after she's gone, nothing is the same for him because he can't get her out of his mind. "i'm an alien you're an alien it' a beautiful rain beautiful rain beautiful rain." This part trips me. My honest belief... when not together, they both feel like an alien, not normal, not whole. One cannot live without the other. but together, they make perfect sense, they fit, they complete each other...which is why I think he says it's a beautiful rain, because they fit beautifully, and he's reminded of that beautiful rain when they made love because it made him feel less like an alien...remember-and when you rain down in your cinematic love truck. That's the beautiful rain he's talking about. This is quite a mushy love song, but I adore it. |
Tapping The Vein – Butterfly Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This song is about incest. -I wish I was a butterfly. I'd fly and fly until it was my time to die.- This is your classic need for escape, wanting to break away from the pain. -It's creeping in again, I know what I really am.- She's filled with quite a bit of rage, feels much like a monster. -Simple life if I were a butterfly.- She's thinking if she were a butterfly, she would have never been abused. Like a lot of victims, they have this thought that if they were handed a different life, the abuse wouldn't have happened. -Come see the blood that's in my bed. Come hear the things that nobody talks about. Shut up you mouth. Shame on you Shame on me.- That right there says quite a bit. She's talking about blood in her bed, things that happened there that should never be talked about. I think that's something her mother said or at least made her feel. And like it says...shut your mouth, her mother is telling her to keep quiet. Yep, let's add the shame while we're at it because you'll see that a lot in victims as well. Shame on you, shame on me-she's basically telling her mother, shame on you for allowing this to happen. Shame on me too for allowing this to happen. -Look at me, I wish I was a honey bee. Anything, anything other than the things I have been. I slip out of my skin so I don't have to do it again, but just a passing thought, and your filth is seeping in- She wants to be anything but what she is, which is a victim. She slips out of her skin, which means she escapes as the abuse happens. So I don't have to do it again...there she's telling you that she's escaping so that she doesn't have to face the current reality again, but then when she says just a passing thought and your filth is seeping in...she's brought back to reality rather quickly because sometimes escaping is quite impossible. When she says your filth, I think it's obvious what she's saying. -Come scrub my hands, they won't come clean.- That is her feeling guilty, as if it was her fault. |
