Nirvana – You Know You're Right Lyrics 2 days ago
@[Tig45:19083] someone obviously posted the wrong lyrics ... moderators only check formatting of lyrics (they can't be expected to know all correct lyrics to all songs). There is a check against LyricsFind for accuracy of lyrics but this is a newer tool. Also the site largely depends on users to correct / edit incorrect lyrics.

Leprous – Rewind Lyrics 3 days ago
I take it as a bit of a "reset" to your life. They call it rewind, but I see it as life goes on and the wheels continue to turn, but you aren't really living. So one needs to reset their life in an effort to really live within the ever turning cogs of society / the world. Or before you know it you life is over and life is "hollow".

Skyharbor – Blind Side Lyrics 3 days ago
I get the impression of someone who is a bit fed up with society nowadays and wants to escape this world and find their utopia. They can only see the negatives in society and really need someone or thing to renew their belief in humanity.

Intronaut – Fast Worms Lyrics 3 days ago
Could it possibly be amount someone who was found guilty for a crime they did not commit? Possibly from the false testimony of a woman (or is the woman a juror?)

The title seems to suggest that the worms will feed upon their "dead' body (dead literally or probably more in the sense they are defeated / dead inside).

Black Crown Initiate – Withering Waves Lyrics 4 days ago
I take it as being about a lover that has "betrayed" you (although could be about an individual or entity too).

"You've made your promises, that I have drowned inside
The windswept shore is silent in absence of the tide"

These lines that are repeated suggest that they promised their loyalty / love to someone and fully believed in their relationship (gave it their all ... drowned their own self to be with them), but now that they have swept them aside they are not sure of who they are. That is, they are "lost" (absent of the tide) without them because they gave themselves so fully to that relationship.

Erra – Skyline Lyrics 5 days ago
Either they are scared of losing a lover, or have already lost a lover one and are lamenting the lost. They feel lonely without them, and try to seek solace in the city skyline but ultimately they are broken and their sanctuary isn't the same without their lover.

Suicide Silence – The Only Thing That Sets Us Apart Lyrics 5 days ago
A song against the hatred of society towards each other that is based upon race. In essence they are saying we are all the same (humans) and that we are no different.

Our enemies are the same as us, as are our friends. That is, the colour of your skin (race) doesn't determine who is your enemy / friend ... but the individual.

Moon Tooth – Igneous Lyrics 6 days ago
The imagery of the lyrics paints pictures of native American ideals (and probably influenced by the album's cover too). Seems to be about a rite of passage of boys to men in today's modern society (of sorts).

Oathbreaker – Needles in Your Skin Lyrics 6 days ago
Gives an impression of someone reaching out for a loved one to give them strength in a time of need, but that person abandons then (leaves them to "fight" alone). Themes of loneliness and despair emanate throughout the song.

Could they possibly be going through a mental break or terminal illness?? ("In a half-lit hospital room") ... and other lines to me suggest possible mental illness, such as:

"In this clouded confused head" - heavily medicated

Jidenna – White Niggas Lyrics 10 days ago
Quite interesting imagery and story telling in this song. In effect it is the old "what if the shoe was on the other foot" theme.

What if it was the whites who were the minority ... how would they react to the systematic discrimination that has occurred to minorities over the years??

Many will argue that "whites" wouldn't do the same things, but we want know. Begs the question is their race / skin colour that has created the socio issues in black American communities, or the systems in place that keep it as the norm.

The last verse is a bit of a mockery of the system, as we know that cops wouldn't bust into a mansion for a personal use drug raid (but they would be doing this almost daily in lower socio-economic communities). Yet chances are they'd find drugs users just the same in these "mansions".

Last note, love the lines:

As all the blacks just walk past with their yoga mats
Eating their kale like all's well in the cul-de-sac

Jidenna – Trampoline Lyrics 10 days ago
I personally thought this wasn't a great track by JIdenna, although very catchy the chorus just comes across a little too comical for my liking. Especially given that I think the message of the song is actual quite serious and true.

I take it as being that a woman can dress however they feel comfortable, and society shouldn't necessarily judge them simply on their looks / fashion. All people (inc. women) should be treated respectively, as you don't know why they are dressed like they are, and who are we to pass judgement on what they do or don't wear.

The only problem I find is that this message sort of flies a little in the face of some of Jidenna's other song, in that he implies one should dress to impress to eliminate some of the stereotypes (esp. for black Americans).

Suicidal Tendencies – Subliminal Lyrics 11 days ago
Touches on the belief that through mass media the government (corporations) are controlling our minds through subliminal messages.

Not as paranoid as we may think. Many news channels now operate under clear bias (not even trying to be subliminal), but are still in that they only show one side of the story so subliminal you register their bias as truth / fact.

How many times when hear people say something does an ad jingle or saying pop into your head?? "They're fucking with me subliminally"

Suicidal Tendencies – Freedumb Lyrics 11 days ago
I like the play of the word freedom ("freedumb"). Very much suits the theme of the song that to me implies that we sell our freedom for wealth (material goods, greed, money). That is we'll happily accept the reality told to us if it is easier to swallow.

Ignorance is bliss ... but dumb.

The Tea Party – Shadows On The Mountainside Lyrics 11 days ago
Gives me the impression of someone that is feeling a bit lost in life (or love or both?). They are contemplating it all in a quite mystical / philosophical manner. Where to next? Is there hope to return to what was before?

I love the poetry of the lyrics and the imagery it creates for me.

@[Chewch:18866] comment really ties together the mystical themes of the song for me too.

The Kinks – I Go To Sleep Lyrics 11 days ago
A really beautiful love song by The Kinks. The piano really ties this song together so lovely.

Not sure if the lover has died (Though you are far away) or if they have simply left them (perhaps the love wasn't reciprocated)?

Could be a beautiful song even for a couple when they are apart from each other temporarily.

Now they say "Jidenna why you dressing so classic?"
I don’t want my best dressed day in a casket

I love these lines, so many of us (irrelevant of our race / creed / skin colour) go through life and only truly get dressed for success when we die!

Jidenna – Long Live the Chief Lyrics 11 days ago
I interpret this song as a bit of don't "play the black card". That is, if you want to be someone, rise above (societies low expectations?), be better than don't use your skin colour as an excuse. Accept who you are and own it (be the "chief").

It seems to follow a similar theme of many hip hop songs in that he seems to be singing largely about his own personal life, but instead of glamorising the life of a gangsta, he is saying I could have gone that (easy) path but he chose to follow his own path. Find himself and decide where he belongs in society ... didn't let others pigeon hole him.

The song's audience appears to be other black Americans (although could be applied to many minorities around the world). It is saying if I can do it, then so can you ... but you need to make the right choices and own it (be the chief).

Counterparts – Compass Lyrics 12 days ago
A lover has allowed them to find themselves (point the compass in the right direction). They were lost before they met this lover (again relates back to being lost with a compass) and they felt like giving in, but since they've met this lover everything seems so much better with them.

They are their compass to happiness / love / life.
