Questioning the flaws of humans in a "designed" universe (or at least a universe at one with itself). Are we an abnormality or part of the equation??

@[wonderboy7:19580] Slipknot don't really touch on religion (or anti-religious matters) a lot in their songs, especially compared to many other metal bands. What is "demonic" music?? This seems to change through the years ... at one time any music was demonic, so as Slipknot suggest in a lot of their songs don't let others determine your life (or in this case what is demonic music), but forge your own path.

Slipknot – Pulse of the Maggots Lyrics 10 days ago
@[MetallibangeR:19579] not really meaningless lyrics, and you would find many of the anti-government / war / political messages in Slipknot songs are similar to those in Slayer songs (although Slayer's themes are largely concentrated on religion, but do cross into similar themes with similar messages to Slipknot).

@[seeing:19572] who is the "pulse" of the fans (maggots) though?? That is who the song is about not the fans per se, but who / what sets the pulse of the maggots (which i would almost take in the context of this song as being all the disenfranchised people, not just their fans).

@[whabuch:19570] it is a very different sound on both albums. The songwriting and instrumentals are a lot more mature on AHIG, and the production I feel is a lot tighter too (they have mixed it to sound less raw than Iowa ... which I feel was done intentionally).

Slipknot – The Blister Exists Lyrics 10 days ago
@[jbandy10:19568] I have to agree with @[SirCambert:19569] All Hope is Gone was definitely not a "heavy" album (especially compared to their previous albums). I actually thought the lyrical meanings on AHIG were a lot more mature, as was the whole song writing on the album.

Slipknot – The Blister Exists Lyrics 10 days ago
@[jennifer98:19567] In your opinion. I don't think it is necessary to say others are wrong ... because as with many pieces of interpretative art the meaning is in the eye (ear) of the beholder. So they are not "wrong", just interpret it differently to you.

James LaBrie – This is War Lyrics 10 days ago

Cult of Luna – Further Lyrics 11 days ago
Perhaps the final surrender to society?? You can fight the system, but is it just a battle of futility??

Is the beyond our literal or metaphorical death?? That is, is it the death of our freedoms, our fight against society, our struggles OR simply we fight all our lives to simply die (perhaps with no legacy or nothing to show??)

Really leaves more questions than answers ...

Cult of Luna – Leash Lyrics 11 days ago
I sort of take this as a you will reap what you sow theme. That is, if you allow yourself to be lead by the leash by others than there is no one to blame but yourself (yet we will try to blame those that lead).

To me this song is saying it doesn't matter if you were "just following orders" (the normal, what everyone else did) ... you made the choice to be on the leash so therefore you must reap what you have sown with that choice. Or in other words, choose not to be lead around by a leash!

Muse – Cave Lyrics 11 days ago
@[procrastinatingbum:19551] possibly ... although the melancholy music suggests that the theme probably isn't so much he is saying "fuck you" to society but more that he is struggling with life (maybe dreams that he could just live without needing the assessment of society??)

Ronnie Burns – Smiley Lyrics 17 days ago
I take this as being song about the Vietnam War. The song was released in 1969, and Australia had been involved in the war for over 5 years at that time.

The main character, Smiley (a nickname for their sunny disposition most likely) has reached the age of adult hood and has to serve in the War (perhaps conscripted?).

Now either the character dies in Vietnam (hence "we won't see you smile no more") or the horrors of war will change them sunny disposition forever ("No more laughter in the air").

Either way it is a song that starts off quite cheery that turns solemn as the true theme and anti-war nature of the song evolves as the song continues.
