Meat Loaf – Where Angels Sing Lyrics
|
Released in November 1995 just two weeks after my father passed away, I popped this cassette into my car driving home from work. I was excited to hear the new Meat Loaf album. But I wasn\'t expecting this song to close out the album. It hit such an emotional chord for me in such a vulnerable time. It was actually a healing moment that I remember all these years later. Meat\'s passing on my birthday this week (1/20/22) brought this memory back to me. After struggling with his health and finally being free, these lyrics seemed written for my dad.... "I got my ticket in my hand. Oh, the price is paid in full.....Unlock these chains....The flesh desert me". And then finally...."And a good man just gets stronger. Where angels sing". Rest in peace dad. |

Neil Young – Natural Beauty Lyrics

A top 3 Neil Young song for me - a hidden gem. One of those songs that takes you over emotionally and transports you somewhere peaceful and beautiful. Safe and loving. My wife makes me feel this way. She is my natural beauty. Thank you Neil for a gift that has nourished my soul for 30 years now. |

Finally released on their latest album (2021) Pressure Machine. What a storyteller. He saves her. He goes too far with her. Does he kill her abuser in the canyon? Wow. |

Phosphorescent – Song For Zula Lyrics
|
Lots of human love analysis here, of which some are very good. However, when you delve into the song as intended - the viewpoint of Zula the Gorilla who has been caged and lost freedom, it is really a stunning piece of poetry. And of course what an amazing song. Check out the live version from the BBC Sessions for a cool alternative version. |

Paolo Conte – Reveries Lyrics
|
The incredibly talented Greg Dulli (Afghan Whigs, Twilight Singers, Gutter Twins) described this song as to how he would introduce himself personally, through a song. It seems a fit to me - from his wild youth, to now a 50+ man (Dressed as a handsome man, I've lost my youth) - his path has been an extreme life's journey which has left us a treasure trove of gorgeous music along that blazed path. |

Beautiful song. Reminds me of a cousin I lost many years ago - if for the title only. I received a validation from her through this song. Again, beautiful tune by a great artist. Never gets old. |

A Bruce classic, this song has been a best friend to me over the decades. So much beauty, imagry and emotion. A heartfelt vocal. I hope kids today understand this music - shame to see it go by the wayside as time moves on. Listen to your junk man.....he's singing.... |

Lisa Germano – The darkest night of all Lyrics
| 12 years ago
|
This song to me is the night my father passed away. A gift of music that despite the sadness of that night shed's light on the memory of the worst day of my life. This is one of those "soundtrack to your life" moments for me. "Memory must...fill you with love...positive days...positive years..." I see the hallway to the hospital in the middle of the night - there waiting - and I hear the background music behind Lisa's voice. I said goodbye that night, but Lisa's music makes it bearable to hear. "This stuff it hurts...always it will...you've gone away...goodnight(dad)" |

Bon Iver – Beth/Rest Lyrics

People get over yourselves with this 80's critisism. Incredibly beautiful music and lyric. This song is a "creation" much in the same vain that "the lure would prove too much" by Greg Dulli with the Twilight Singers. Songs like these are created like paintings - true creations - layered and through different pieces they come together into one masterful piece. This one puts Bon Iver in the musical genius category. |

The Beatles – Tomorrow Never Knows Lyrics

Mad Men turned me on (to use a 60's term) to this song - played at the end of last episode. Was 5 years old when Revolver came out but always heard Beatles from my older brothers - BUT - never heard this song! What a masterpiece! Seems like a deep cut to me, but I see others here saying it is considered the greatest song ever. How did I miss this one? Have to ask my brothers. Lennon was a genius and what they all created together was trail blazing for generations to come. |

One of those few, perfect songs. It has everything and so much more. "And there she's acting happy, inside her handsome home. And me, I'm flyin in my taxi, taking tips n gettin stoned." A man who accepts his position, but still has dignity. Thanks for your songs Harry - what a gift. |

The Twilight Singers – King Only Lyrics

That makes me even more curious about this song. The live version on "Live at Triple Door" is miles ahead of the studio version. The lyrics are breathtaking, and on the live cut the shining pared down guitars allow the beauty of the melody to shine with the lyric. Once agin, GD is amazing. |

GD embedded himself with drug dealers for a script and this song is the result. He carried a gun and saw a man killed. Interesting article here: http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/features/greg-dulli-a-rock-survivor-404123.html |

The studio version on 18 tracks as an amazing vocal. Put the headphones on and listen to the tone of his voice when he trails off on "...I got a little job down in Darlington, but some nights I don't go". What am amazing talent. |

Greg Dulli – Get The Wheel Lyrics

Pure beauty summed up in less than two minutes. Vocal is tremendous. This was used in the final scene of the Rescue Me episode when Tommy's crazy Uncle murdered his sons DWI killer. The meaning is much like other Dulli work about the underbelly of life and the lure that at times proves to much (nice pun for my fellow Dulli fans)!!! |

The greatest second verse ever:

If I could have only once heard you scream
To feel you were alive
Instead of watching you abandoning yourself

Beautiful song - my favorite from Icehouse. Really grabs you picturing an old man who once had a full life filled with love and laugher, only now to be all alone with only the memory of happiness. The music as well as the lyrics grab your heart and tug on it. |
