The Cars – Moving In Stereo Lyrics 9 years ago
I find it pretty significant that this was the last song Kurt Cobain played live before cancelling his future tours and taking his life a month later.

To me, it's about lack of willpower and the incapacity to change.

I remember one time when I was trying to "better myself" in college, I downloaded one of those "improve your concentration," or "care less what others think of you" or "let go of your past" hypnosis tapes. There was always an introduction at the beginning where the hypnotherapist talked about how we were hardwired to perpetually act on the same habits and how difficult it was to change that on a conscious level.

That may have been bullshit to sell the tapes, and the tapes themselves probably didn't work. But sometimes I take a moment and look at things, and really do realize that there aren't many things I can do to make long term changes on a grander scale.

When I'm depressed, this becomes a truth instead of a possibility, and one that's very difficult to escape from. Something about the sinister and crawling tones of this song makes me feel that the songwriter knew what that felt like.

The Smiths – Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others Lyrics 10 years ago
Morrissey is known to make social commentary and be very dry about it, making this very clearly a passive comment on body image and its expectations. Other times he can can be sentimental and focus on internal struggle, but I don't think that's the case of this song.

Regardless, every time I hear this song I sort of *wishfully* think of it being about personality variation- some girls are bigger as people than others. I doubt those were his intentions, though.

The Futureheads – Heartbeat Song Lyrics 12 years ago
I respectfully disagree, and I'm pretty surprised no one else has commented on this one. Not even to make the point I'm about to make, but just in general.

I think that there's a significant other or person of interest in his life. He has some sort of feelings for them, but he just knows that this person isn't "the one." Hence "your heartbeat song; it's good but it's not the one." And as I interpret it, this isn't because of fighting or disagreements or falling out; he just KNOWS that this isn't the right person for him. It's that feeling that he describes so well as just being "out of tune" with another person.
But the song is about how although he knows deep down that this person isn't perfect for him and that there's no significant future for them being together, he still wants to stay with them (or as he puts it, "sing" with them). The fact that this relationship isn't the everlasting kind that so many people are looking for doesn't change the fact that he's happy with this other person.
