Opeth – Nectar Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I'm pretty sure it's about necrophilia, I mean the hints are pretty strong. I'll do a complete tear down: "I arose from the lullaby Enduring yet another tale You tempt me again" Obviously this is him dreaming ["arose the lullaby"] about a past love. This person meant very much to him, and it pains [ the specific word choice "enduring" is a hint at this] him to see this person in his dream. He wants to be reunited ["tempt" is the obvious indication that he cannot however ] with this love. "With your embrace, so tainted Within the night you beckon Cursing me with every glance" Now this is where the song gets freaky. If we are to assume this is his greatest love, the juxtaposition of the words "embrace" and "tainted" seems unfit. However, it makes perfect sense if this were a "forbidden love". The next stanzas [within the night you beckon/ Cursing me] don't explicitly say this is necrophilia, but the allusions to death immediately after describing forbidden love gives the first implication. "Bring me through Carry my empty shadow And guide me inside your warped labyrinth To the well of sin I swear I will always love you" Obviously with necrophilia in mind, this next makes all to much sense. He is now with the dead body, and having sex with it [guide me inside .... well of sin... I love you]. "Leave me speechless Release my yearning The soil I walk is clad with light Drifting moons thrust me with their rays And I fall inside" He is done and has "released [his] yearning". Obviously this deed was done at under the cover of night, and as he leaves bathed under the moonlight, sadden [I fall inside]. "I lament this heritage Cannot bid farewell The pale face you went as far as you could And from that moment I witnessed your beauty, felt your death" The "heritage" which he "cannot bid farewell" to is again his necrophilia. He doesn't want to be this person, but he it is his nature, and he remarks quiet poetically "I witnessed your beauty, felt your death" about his experience. "Mine is yours, mine is yours In the wake of dawn The mist of morning linger before it leaves Invisible eyes, red reflection It is you Smiling in the midst of the moor" Lastly, he has traveled so long by now that dawn is rising. He thinks sees "his love" [smiling in the midst of the moor]. The "invisible eyes, red reflection" indicates that his love is still a corpse or perhaps something supernatural now, suggesting that is how he prefers it. Though an alternative interpretation is that this is a hallucination after such a long travel, brought upon by a paranoia of some sort, which also says very much about the nature of him. tl;dr : This is about a dude getting it on with a dead body |

J-Live's part is fucking amazing and I don't even like rap. It's very witty, but the lyrics are off on this . |
Emiliana Torrini – Hold Heart Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I think this a song about her boyfriend who was suddenly killed when she was 23. This is my interpretation: In each verse she talks to a different part of herself. It isn't explicitly clear until the third verse though why she is doing this. It turns out she was holding her dying boyfriend this whole time. "He walks out on you" doesn't mean the guy is leaving her for another woman, but that he was passing away. She had a hand on his wound and she didn't want the guy's last experience on Earth to be watching her breaking down and covered in his blood ("don't let him bleed under your nails"||"tears, don't you come out" || "don't let him hear the break in your voice"|| "heart don't beat so loud"). In the third verse she is removing her hand, since he has finally passed away and no longer able to grasp her hand back ["Hand let go of his with ease ..."]. To summarize,so as not to exasperate the situation she chose to beg her emotions, feelings, and body to 'hold on' until after he passes. I believe the next verse "Oh Lord take off thy crown, you're my king no more..." is one of the most powerful verses ever written. In it, she is conveying that her spirituality/faith has been devastated by this loss because of how ["merciless"] God ("Lord") would have to be to take away the person she loved so much. The last 2 verses are the repeats, but I believe they have a slightly different meaning in this second context. Finally, now that he passed away, she can let herself cry but is still holding tears back because she knows that the moment she does she will probably enter a depression ("If you blind me now, I am defeated") |

Hold heart, don't beat so loud For me keep your calm As he walks out on you No tears, don't you come out If you blind me now, I am defeated No lips, don't make a sound Don't let him hear The break in your voice Hand let go off his With ease and grace don't let him Bleed under your nails Oh Lord take off thy crowd, You're my king no more With that merciless heart Hold heart, don't beat so loud For me keep your calm As he walks out on you No tears, don't you come out If you blind me now I am defeated |

The meaning of this song is pretty self explanatory. What isn't however, is why there are no comments on this yet. D:< |

"I don't know what it is, they just curdle me. All they have to do is play eight bars of 'Come to Me, My Melancholy Baby' and my spine turns to custard. I get goose pimply all over and I come to 'em" |
