Black Lips – Family Tree Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I reckon the family tree is a reference to a family's lineage however the context also makes it seem like a "lover's lookout"; a hanky panky point of sorts. So with the themes of traditional American garage rock, it's song about asking for a long term relationship with someone (marriage) in the guise of 'a hi 5 your buddies the next day at school' type date. |

Pavement – All My Friends Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This is about going out to bars and not really connecting with "bar goers". SM "needs it", he needs the music, beers, girls, whatever. Bar and Pubs have always gone hand in hand underground music, but lack of graspable and examinable meaning makes it a "broken world". Liars; peoples who will extend the truth (or outright fabricate) seem to be a focus of disdain. However it is empathized how anyone can fall into that trap of trying to make a social connection at any cost. "Listen to them Show when they learn how to lie You can sing along with them if you try" Finally the song draws to the conclusion that a social connection can't be made at a social club/place/bar because of the aforementioned reasons. The song slows, like a let down and the protagonist seems to have made his (or heeerrr) way out of the environment, to an industrial dock area and away from any entertainment district. He then seems to feel a desire to engage with a "union man", perhaps somebody is drinking with friends ( comrades in labour with strong connections and emphatic understanding of each other. Not bullshit Artists). SM had previously described a desire to take his tale to them, the tale the whole song describes up until this point. Finally we are walking on the beach and feeling something certain, "wet sand, feet in the wet sand". |

Death Cab for Cutie – Bend to Squares Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Sound like beginning wanting to leave a small town for the city. "Gravitated towards a taste For foreign films and modern plays" The machine sounds like a car driving around small town blocks. "But that machine could only Bend to squares five to six times Before your fingers came unwired" and breaking from those blocks, weighing down the feelings/pedal and driving away, forwards to a new life. "Weights down so that you could move forwards Forwards So you could move forwards Forwards" |
Pavement – Grave Architecture Lyrics | 13 years ago |
On further listening I hear. "Strip the crypt and the ovens erupt" and "Is it old, am I (e?)quipped" |
Pavement – Grave Architecture Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Holy shit, this is creditworthy. |
Pavement – Grave Architecture Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Another Pavement song with sexual connotations. Let's see. Grave..architecture for a grave. "Strip the cr(y)p(t) and the others erupt." "Crooks (hey hey), they need the talent to breed" "It takes a locksmith baby to push you off And I'm pushing you back It takes a locksmith baby to push you off" I believe at least one layer of this song is about rejecting seduction, as the views by SM or whom the song is representing is Just. Not. Interested. Furthermore if you can follow this interpretation, the "And the hood so rad and I'm fucking glad" line is fucking hilarious. |

Nailed it. Ahola = Pavement's lyrics having multiple meanings, not forgetting the hello/goodbye boiling down language into context and not taken on face value. Seems like a comment on Irony. |
