Still Corners – The Trip Lyrics 7 years ago
I can't understand what is meant in the second stanza. Does anyone have any ideas what it could mean?

Technology is merely another tool for us to use. What we create and do with this technology is where things can go very well or very bad.

Tame Impala – 'Cause I'm A Man Lyrics 7 years ago
@[carolaclavo:14073] I agree this is not the platform to argue this point lol. To be clear I am not advocating physical violence in any way, shape, or form. When I referred to aggression, or pride, or competitiveness, I meant it in the context of having an argument. Never mentioned violence. Just wanted to make that point clear.

I appreciated hearing your view on the song, and hope that this shows that people can have a spirited discussion without resorting to name calling or any "trollish" behavior :)

Thanks again! Cheers to you as well.

@[carolaclavo:14066] perhaps it is learned to a certain extent. I would argue that men are inherently more aggressive, competitive than women for the most part though. I'm sure we can find some outliers if we search the data but overall men are more prone to this type of behavior.

The fact that we produce more testosterone should be good evidence to support this claim.

Tame Impala – 'Cause I'm A Man Lyrics 7 years ago
@[carolaclavo:14061] oh man, I really hope this is not what the song writer intended to convey with his lyrics. I personally disagree.
Here's my take:

This guys is arguing with his girl. "Each fucking doubt I make, unleash a cry" says he is putting holes in her argument. "In desperation, all that you can do is ask me why," the girl is dropping her argument and attacking him personally.

He replies, "Cus I'm a man, woman/ don't always think before I do." She has dropped the original argument and attacking him personally, and he is left defending his words or actions to her. He's also saying don't put words into my mouth.

Pride will not allow him to concede his point. He is a man. Proud, tough by nature. He will not drop his natural proclivities just to appease his opponent.

Alvvays – Atop a Cake Lyrics 8 years ago
@[dannytres:5081] I kind of feel like she doesn't even want to get married. for example:"Why let the state in our sheets/Can't we do without it?" is one example that I see in the lyrics. It's like saying, "No need to register their marriage, why do it?"
IDK, that's what I think anyway.

Morrissey – Istanbul Lyrics 9 years ago
Yeah, I like your interpretation about the mother dying at birth. He obviously had the kid when he was too young, and wasn't ready for that type of commitment. He tried to raise him right but he himself hasn't grown up yet.
He's rolling through the streets looking for his son, who is presumably now involved in a gang. At the end of the song, he looks down into a coffin, or "pine box", to identify the body of his dead son.
Fucking sad ending, I must say.

Wild Nothing – Nocturne Lyrics 9 years ago
Here's what I think.
The song is being told through the eyes of an admirer who has finally started a conversation with his/her object of obsession, on a slow night, at a bar. Told in the lines:
"You wanna know me? well what's to know. To amuse you when the night is slow."
The part where he/she goes:
"Do your eyelids ever close, caught spirits in your waking woes?"
He/she always finds this person late nights drinking spirits after a long day, maybe?
Again, the "I know where to find you, I know where you go", is stating that this person frequents this bar, and the admirer goes there to see said person.
Now in the second stanza I feel like they might be back at his/her place.
"And you're twisted, what can I say? your days are empty and my tongue's decayed"
He/She is making the observation that this person is drunk but he/she accepts this, understanding that this person's days are not exactly productive. He/she is now staying up with this person in kind of an awkward silence.
"And we stay up, just to tempt me, One more night of your company."
Finally had the chance to get this object of admiration, but alas, it is thwarted by unfortunate circumstances. Just another night in this person's company. That's where I think the line:
"You can have me, you can have me all," comes into play.
I've taken the opportunity to profess feelings to someone who was way to drunk to remember the next day. I used that opportunity to say what I never had the courage to say when she was sober.

Richard Hawley – Open Up Your Door Lyrics 14 years ago
First off let me just say that I find this song to be a near perfect masterpiece! Hawley's voice is out of this world. TrueLove's Gutter is an all around great album, but this single effing kills! I empathize with the message of this song. I guess because I've been single for a little over a year, and I've been closed off to anyone who tries to come close to me. Lately, however, I feel like i should "open up the door" to my heart, so to speak, and let a new person into my life. Having said this, I also think this would be a great thing to tell a girl who you are trying to get with....after all 'Love is so hard to find'
