The Books – All You Need Is A Wall Lyrics 12 years ago
I think this song is very clearly about religion, and how despite no concrete evidence to support it, ("...you should cast a shadow")people still draw great comfort from it ("I never loved a wall so much...asleep in a chair where the two go click"). The two referring to the author and their belief.

However at some point, one has to reconcile the fact that this comfort is baseless and this introspection can be jarring and be frightening when one is confronted with the dilemna of drawing "power from such a modest source" - a lie, or coming to terms with the fact that in all honesty, "you don't feel a thing
when you drink from the springs of living water." In the New Testament, Jesus Christ refers to himself as living water...the writer realizes the beliefs he's clung on to and drawn so much from is really just a facade and when he/she is honest with themselves, the feelings they've drawn from them were simply projections.
