Bob Dylan – Just Like a Woman Lyrics 1 year ago
@[Blackmofasa9:44875] God forbid a woman has emotional needs to where they would need to "sap" affection out of a man. This view of women seems to match up with Dylan's attitude towards "her" though it does seem more harsh than Dylan's. His avoidance could've been the reason why she was feeling needier than what her initial confidence exuded. He was into it when it was easy and she matched the surface level perception he had of her aka believed what he wanted to believe and what suited his needs/ego. But then once he realized she was broken and had needs, instead of trying to understand her better or help her out with it, he was out. Beautiful song but pretty fucked up to be honest. Everyone is messy and hurting whether they express it outwardly or not. The shame he feels at the end of the song, "But when we meet again, please don't let on that you knew me when I was hungry" probably indicates he realizes he was being superficial in his pursuit and view of her and feels bad for objectifying her and running away like a little boy. To me him saying that "she breaks like a little girl" speaks to that he's not willing to help her out with her painful emotions as a father would, he doesn't care about her in that way. I get that his self preservation is at stake, but if he can't accept the emotional labor that comes with sleeping with her, then he doesn't deserve her fruits... the good, "like a woman" parts because while women are strong, they are not perfect and need love. They are not your mother. (clearly, I'm a spurned woman myself....)

The Beatles – Helter Skelter Lyrics 4 years ago
I understood the lyrics as Danny Zuko's ode to Sandy. As in there's a romance going on between the 2 people, but the singer is saying he moves at a faster pace than the other: "You may be a lover but you ain't no dancer" and "Til I get to the bottom and I see you again."

Eagles – New Kid In Town Lyrics 6 years ago
@[Magicblue22:23892] I agree that this song is about losing a girl. Maybe at one point he was the new kid in town but now since he's been there a while, he is thinking he is better than the town and the girl he is with. But then a new kid comes along, and because of the way he has treated the relationship, he loses the girl (to the new kid). The way he was acting before the new kid came along made the girl sad but he didn't do anything about it. He let her cry to him but didn't say anything to her to try and make her feel better: "There's so many things you should have told her, but night after night you're willing to hold her, just hold her. Tears on your shoulder." Emphasis on "just" hold her, "only" hold her. Then he regrets losing her so he sticks around: "And he[the new kid]'s holding her, and you're still around."

She will never know him because he is unknowable or at least to her. All these years I thought I was on his side. From the start he is dishonest in his reactions and just tries to flatter the girl. But really he thinks she is dumb

I like what you say about the hands of above not being enough. That's exactly how it is after this kind of thing. You know things are going to get better and you can trust in God/the hope that things will get better and friends and family. but it's not the same thing. it's great support but too far removed from what you're going through

I love how you mapped it out. I love this song and knew I was relating to it in ways but couldn't put it together. The song is a masterpiece. I love the progression of emotions. and i love how you worded the progression. the thing i love most is the end. He realizes that he was being childish and self-centered about his loss initially. he realized there was less meaning in his emotions and what he thought of "girl." He moved on. I like how the length of the song implies that it took a long time to get to this level of getting over her.

The Wallflowers – Health And Happiness Lyrics 12 years ago
i like conicaxx's interpretation better. the lyrics say "you got your health, you should be worried bout somebody else." it's def about a fling where the girl fell for him and the guy doesn't really care about her.

Ok, I really like your and oh_someday's responses. I agree with both! Yours was the one I was looking for, but then the next one made me think it was right too. I think oh_someday's is for if you're more of an optimistic, and yours is for more of a realist/pessimist. And I really agree with yours more...But I just love how yall's two responses are next to each other. My favorite responses I've seen of all the others. I love your interpretation of the last line: "That the guy knows that the girl doesn't really mean that much to him and the girl knows she doesn't really love him." Brilliantly dark!

Jennifer Lopez – Get Right Lyrics 13 years ago
this site is about your interpretation of the song not whether or not you like the song. not a single one of you haters and likers offered what you think this song means. annoying. It's about being out at a club with your boyfriend and he is acting too cool for school. But it's probably not just at the club that he's "playin it cool," it's probably all the time, that's why she's annoyed. She wants him to loosen up and show her that he has a good time with her. If only he will "let himself go" he could make their relationship right in just one night.

Fiona Apple – The First Taste Lyrics 13 years ago
I think you're wrong! I think you could read it either way--as either waiting for someone you really like to make a move or getting impatient with a relationship. I've always interpreted it as waiting for an exciting fling to start, but just now I saw it as beginning to feel the emptiness of an unsatisfying relationship. Your expectations just aren't being fulfilled. "Full is not heavy as empty my love"?? That could very well mean an empty relationship is heavier than a full one.

Agreed! So beautiful. It's funny how it's a love song but it sounds kind of bluesy and like he's in pain (emotional)

Wilco – When You Wake Up Feeling Old Lyrics 14 years ago
Perhaps about being content with the way your life is at any point in time. Maybe you wake up and find you are old and wonder how so much time has gone by and why your life the way you want it to be. It's a choice, accept your life and enjoy it or hate it--"can you be where you want to be?"

Local Natives – Who Knows Who Cares Lyrics 14 years ago
This song is so pretty--the vocals and strings and all! Perhaps about not being afraid of what's in front of you and what that could mean in the near future. In the first stanza, he seems like he is confused about life in general. But then in the second stanza he is confident in this person and wants to share his life (at the moment) with this person. He wants the other person to not have doubts and to reveal his/her self with no reservations ("..even with your doubts..." "you could let it down"). He won't criticize. Because he knows it's hard ("easy as it sounds//it's never as quite easily done"), so he understands. In the third stanza he says how they've invested in each other ("the current has us now") and people can transform each other so life is different in some way now--it is all about to change. It's interesting how there's clashing messages of not caring/worrying but then you can find how much you do care about people when you share yourself with another. But it's true, you just can't take life too seriously...or song song analyses :D
