Patti Page – Tennessee Waltz Lyrics 8 years ago
Well, first off, if someone can steal your darlin' from you with just ONE DANCE, I'm thinking that the relationship was on fairly shaky ground to begin with... not to mention the fact that you're not very good at picking your friends!

And then we have to ask: what could have happened during that one dance? What does the darlin' find out about the old friend? My guess is that some kind of prominent physical characteristics must have come into play out there on the dance floor - either that, or the conversation hinged on questions of net worth.

Foo Fighters – Everlong Lyrics 9 years ago
Apparently one of David Letterman's favorite songs... The Foo Fighters performed this live in the studio during Letterman's last broadcast, 5/20/2015, while a montage of clips and stills from the history of the show was shown.

Radiohead – House of Cards Lyrics 11 years ago
Who else but Radiohead could write a song with the line "Infrastructure will collapse"...

Hmmm. The line about "Voltage spikes" also reminds me of my least favorite movie, THE ICE STORM, which also deals with adultery & wife-swapping...

Peter Gabriel – Blood Of Eden Lyrics 11 years ago
Depending on your experience, this song can almost be too honest - and too painful - to listen to. The best song about breakup sex ever - but I can almost never hear it without starting to cry.

The Cranberries – Zombie Lyrics 13 years ago
The line "With their tanks, and their bombs/And their bombs, and their guns" is an echo from a much older song, "Johnny I Hardly Knew Ye" (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnny_I_Hardly_Knew_Ye)

...
With your drums and guns and drums and guns, hurroo, hurroo
With your drums and guns and drums and guns, hurroo, hurroo
With your drums and guns and drums and guns
The enemy nearly slew ye
Oh my darling dear, Ye look so queer
Johnny I hardly knew ye.

Radiohead – How to Disappear Completely Lyrics 14 years ago
(though I should add I think the association was subconscious - I know Thom speaks of floating down the Liffey in a dream, but the dreamworld will use exactly that kind of wordplay sometimes)

Radiohead – How to Disappear Completely Lyrics 14 years ago
Personally, I don't buy that it's "float down the Liffey" - I think it's the "Lethe," the river of the underworld whose waters cause the spirit to forget its previous life

Siouxsie and the Banshees – Israel Lyrics 14 years ago
>>Red and green reflects the scene

A nice trope -- red and green being both the traditional Christmas colors and two of the national colors of the Palestinians.
