Joy Division – Shadowplay Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This song definitely reminds me of drugs, particularly a bad or intense experience on them, of which I have had several. It's like you're doing drugs in a search for someone, but that someone is really yourself. But in your pursuit, you end up "acting out your own death" and the assassins are used to illustrate the demons in your own mind that keep you limited. |
New Order – Bizarre Love Triangle Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I think it's safe to say that it's about the lead songer of the members' former band, Joy Division. Ian Curtis committed suicide because the bizarre love triangle going on between his wife and girlfriend was tearing him apart. |
Bob Dylan – Chimes of Freedom Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Like most of his songs, this is intensely personal. This song is at the essence of Another Side, the side that Dylan always wanted to express, but couldn't figure out how to do it (until 1964). This isn't a protest song. It's about the freedom we all wish we had, but know we probably never will. Not freedom in a political sense, but in a personal sense. The kind of freedom that effects every moment of every day. Many people don't want to seek this freedom, or have given up. This song is a tribute to freedom at its essence, the undefinable freedom, and the deep desire for it which pains one with the knowledge that this kind of freedom is nearly impossible to obtain and takes superhuman strength, wisdom, and drive to ever achieve. At least, that's what I get out of it. |

Silversun Pickups – Growing Old Is Getting Old Lyrics | 13 years ago |
there is a distinction between believing in christ and seeking christ consciousness. conchr isnt saying believe in jesus. he said to look into gnosticism - thats not a christian belief. maybe in the future it would be a good idea to fully understand what someone is trying to say before ridiculing them? sorry, but i find ironic that some of you are insulting conchr's intelligence when what he's saying is actually going over your head |
The Shins – A Comet Appears Lyrics | 13 years ago |
its a reference to freidrich nietzsche's idea of the uberman, or overman. this is definitely the lyric, as the concept of uberman contrasts perfectly with the self - description "barely a vapor" |
Jimmy Eat World – Nothingwrong Lyrics | 13 years ago |
We've done nothing wrong, But we've done nothing We can't look away, But we're just looking in It's second nature to say, Hey hey hey, we've done nothing wrong! All people and all indecisiveness. jimmy eat worlds not that specific. i can see the iraq angle but i just dont think thats what its about based on all the other songs. its about how even if you do everything your told is right and dont hurt anyone, its not enough. you have to define right and wrong for yourself. Stop "just looking," or look away already ;) |
Yellowcard – Up Hill Both Ways Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Yea fuck Ryan key haha the only reason he became lead singer is cause his daddy paid to have one for the kids produced. I like the new yellowcard too but I hope he feels like a scumbag |
MGMT – Congratulations Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Spot on sir spot on. I almost hope this album isn't as popular as oracular because it'll weed out mgmts true fans from the poseurs that really just find kids and time to pretend catchy. I'm not saying they aren't good songs but they don't represent the real mgmt like this whole new album does |
MGMT – I Found a Whistle Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I'm banking this songs gonna be a single so I had to snag first comment haha. great album I hope everyone else thinks so. As for the song, seems like the whistle is a symbol for something, not really sure what tho. but I'd say the song is based on an important epiphany the singer had. It seems like it's liberating but at the same time there's a downside to using the "whistle" because you need a noose around your neck to blow it. Really interesting song |
MGMT – Siberian Breaks Lyrics | 14 years ago |

Switchfoot – Beautiful Letdown Lyrics | 14 years ago |
this is definitely not about god even tho they are a christian rock band. its about someone making bittersweet self-discovery, he realizes that he is special and that he doesn't belong. At the same time, he sees everything clearly and is glad that he finally sees himself for what he truly is. |
Nada Surf – Amateur Lyrics | 14 years ago |
this is song is all an illustration of how narrator feels about his life, and about how he feels he needs to change himself but cant do anything to make a difference in his life or how he feels about it: "every day is new year's eve, every time is the last time." He even gives samples of rules he sets for himself in the song: "wipe out all self pity, it's slowing me down" and "turn of feeling pretty, dressing up, dressing down" the singer looks at his life very negatively, as he clearly implies, which makes the line "i had a birthday party and it was packed, got friends when who love me," a hollow and ironic attempt at self-assurance, while he truly feels lonely, depressed, and friendless. in the first lines "you make me feel like im ok, i could be happy" he is talking about probably a girl he knows or is dating or a really close friend or family member, and this is the one person in his life that makes him feel ok with who he is. everyone else just makes him feel alone and inadequate. personally, i think this is the same person he is addressing in the chorus, you said i should get professional help it always makes me cry i know im just an amateur but ive gotta try this is someone he trusts, who tells him he needs professional help, which obviously, based on the rest of the song, means psychiatric help. her/him saying this upsets him ("it always makes me cry") because he wants to think he is ok, like that person usually makes him feel, but instead that person is validating his feelings that he is not ok, which makes him feel totally hopeless and worthless because not only does he want to think he is ok, but the wants that person to think he is ok. despite the pop song structure, this is a really depressing and emotionally deep song. i really want to see what other people think about this one. |
