Probably about Jerry...not very likely it would be about Layne for this reason: 'lie in filth getting off'. Heroin takes away your sex drive. According to a friend I knew that was on it (clean now :D) "The hottest chick on earth could be standing naked in front of you and all you'd care about was that she's blocking your cartoons." Dunno though...could just be artistic embellishment and all. Good song no matter what. |

Well, when I first heard this song I misheard the lyrics and thought that this was literally about a girl and the ending was the guy killing himself. Now, having heard the correct lyrics (and looking at the little booklet) this is most likely about heroin. One of my top five PJ songs. |

Going off of what ophelia219 said, it could be similar-lyrically-to Pearl Jam's 'Jeremy'. Kid dealing with shit from other kids, can't take it anymore-but instead of suicide, he shoots up the school. Just a thought. |

Death of some sort. The Cobain theory sounds about right-Eddie Vedder has done a few 'eulogy' (sp?) songs-Bee Girl (Shannon Hoon) and the hidden track after that, 4/20/02 (Layne Staley). So maybe it is, I dunno. But it would fit in with previous lyrical matter like 'Jeremy'.
P.S.-I don't know how old 'Bee Girl' actually is. =-S |

The whole album is kind of a 'junkie diary' in a way. Like a trip into addiction, but the pages are all jumbled.
Dam That River and Rain When I die are about a fight with this girl, then Vietnam (Rooster) and this lack of caring about death anymore (Them Bones). Then the beginning of heroin (Junkhead) and the journey into that. This song is just another chapter of the pain that heroin causes.

This is probably way off, but my interp. is something like this:
1st verse-murderer kills mother-the 'pearl' is knowledge. In the mother's case, knowledge of what comes after death.
2nd verse-murderer taunting the daughter. 'how far will you go to bait a mouse'=what would you do to get justice for your mother.
3rd verse-sister is now crazy and has lost the 'pearl' of knowledge.
I dunno, just a thought. |
