Seems to be giving kudos to females in general. Admiring their unique strength in a society that has painted girls as simple, less capable, & dependent. He's enchanted by one gal in particular. Samples are taken from the TV series "The Golden Girls" and golden gal is meant to represent a strong female. ____________________________________________________________________ "The Gals were right on, when she needed laughs to fall on For all of this and more I give them praise" The love interest found solace in golden girls (whether that be the TV show or her friends...) when she fell. It is implied that once the lyricist leaves his prime, he'll be able to fall on his golden gal in a similar way. ____________________________________________________________________ "She said I’ll be here for you later, boy Now run along you have to fall" His gal wants him to experience his own glory days, refusing to be either a hindrance, sidekick, or a "toy". She's a unique type of person and has given him a taste of a new "kind of mind". |

I think he's written this song to encourage an ex girlfriend to move on. It seems like he values her as a friend and wants to continue knowing her, but things are still in a difficult place for them. He just wants to talk to her again. "Under a spell you're hypnotized" The general belief that it's impossible to rekindle their friendship without sexual tension existing. He's into the idea of starting fresh. Why can't she be? Although it's easy to say one thing, the general theme of the album would lead one to believe he himself doesn't know exactly what he wants from the girl. |

Undeniable themes of lust for, & romanticizing of death. This eerie tune is a beautiful description of crippling depression. 1st verse (The complicated lust for leaving behind this Earth) (veil between life/death) (the certainty of eternity after this life) 2nd verse (a place of non-feeling, where time is no longer a concept) (life on Earth getting worse) (temptation of death) The soldiers you adore = friends, family who seem otherwise content with their own lives The last line is definitely "Honoring your death" Living is one of the most impossible things when you fully recognize how much easier -not- living is. This song is perfect. |
