To me, this song is certainly not straightforward. I didn't even think of this as being about a relationship that has broken up. This could be about the evolution of one's own personality. We all have many different personas depending on who we interact with. As we mature and become more aware of how we relate to the world, we realize that our old faces and personas were very meaningless in the context of who we have evolved to be in this moment. This song could also be taken as an escape from the negative factors that drown you, that pull you away from the higher, lighter aspects of life. A bitter taste results from anything that has oppressed or controlled you (even within your own mind!). The song could signify the recovery that prevails and the remnants that linger. |
