Love reading everyone's interpretations - keep them coming. The lead singer said Native was inspired by how people choose to spend their time on Earth. Put very simply, I think this song is about how some people spend their lives chasing coin instead of what really matters to them. Of course, there is much more to it, but I think that's what it boils down to. |

What a great track to close the album. My second favourite song off North (after Parade). Both are timeless in their appeal - not jumping on any trends or fads. Just two fantastic alternative rock songs that will stand the test of time. As for the meaning, I can't tell if "we" refers to a couple or if it's intended to represent everyone around him. In any case, I think it's a call to the listener to stop sleep walking through life and start living again, despite the protests of others. |

I think this is the best song off North and arguably one of the best songs Matchbox Twenty have ever produced. What a fantastic song to kick off the album (and their current tour). A classic alternative rock track with universal lyrics that almost anyone can relate to. I agree with Devilsbane's interpretation - it's about knowing the good times while you're still having them and the fear of losing them. Someone who feels like his prime is behind him and he's desperate to get it back. Funnily enough, my favourite songs I rarely listen to because I like to save them for a special time in my life. This is one of them - I've only listened to it twice despite listening to everything else on the album more than 20 times. |

| I agree with most of these comments, but I feel it fits in more with the themes of the album (love, idealism, revolution, etc). I think its about an affection for a girl who possesses similar ideals to him in terms of political revolution. Both are upset with how our leaders are running the country and feel a more aggressive approach to tyranny is necessary. Fight tyranny with tyranny. He's letting her know it's ok to feel the way she does and that he feels the same. | |
