Gorillaz – Rhinestone Eyes Lyrics 13 years ago
oops - posted in the wrong section. I'll repost it here with a few additions.

The song is about the interplay between technology, consumerism and the damage our fake (rhinestone) and "plastic" lifestyle is doing to the environment.

A pod is a social group of whales or dolphins. "Our pod is now washed up in bleach."

And nobody knows what to do with the heat - reference to global warming. "Under sunshine pylons we'll meet, while rain is falling from the sky." Nature is corrupted so much from human pollution that it rains even when the global warming sun is burning down in pylons.

You're clinging to the atoms (technology) and I'm seeing the adjustment and signs of change (climate change, environmental destruction). His soul is frozen (from ice age climate change? from the way technology is divorcing us from nature?) and the birds and all that grows is trying to reach him, tapping on the "natives" in his soul, or that part of him that still is connected to nature deep down.

Gorillaz is a "virtual" band made with technology, a scary gargoyle that we've made with consumerism and plastic power (computers and CDs), as we wait in paralytic dreams with rhinestone (dead/fake) eyes for future pixels (more releases) from factories far away.

"Nature's corrupted, in factories far away."

That's electric - here we go again.

The Beatles – Come Together Lyrics 14 years ago
Oops - typo there. Meant to say come together OVER me, as most politicians think they are ruling "OVER" the people, i.e., this conveys the opposite idea. okay, thx. ;-)

John Lennon wrote this song for Timothy Leary as a theme song for his run for governor of California. Yes, he's one funky dude - he got juju eyeballs! a holy roller! he just does what he please. he got feet down below his knees - cool! Come together, under me (most politicians think they are ruling OVER the people), right now! Come together.

Jefferson Airplane – White Rabbit Lyrics 14 years ago
This song has the creepingest coolest opening, so subtle and sinewy, like at first everything is kind of normal... and yet... hmmm... something is not quite... right... until finally it completely springs on you and propels you fully into the trip... (er, song...) with Grace coming in with the lyrics... "ONE pill makes you larger..." like a light just going on or the world suddenly opening up in total mind and vision glory. Then you're propelled along through the imagery and mounting rhythms until finally coming out the other side, triumphant, exalted, wowed, affirmed... (remember, feed your head)... and then that final note/chord - sounding so majestic and also so personal at the same time ... (how did they do that?) The song itself is exactly like an acid trip.

Jefferson Airplane – Somebody to Love Lyrics 14 years ago
This song is about the death of the 60s ideal that was I think this song is about the death of the 60s ideal that was happening in the Haight Ashbury after it was popularized in the media and kids started showing up there and overrunning it from all over the place. The LSD and pot that had been fueling the counter culture rennaissance were suddenly in short supply, and people began turning to speed and heroin and other hard drugs, with all kinds of crime, rip-offs, some deaths, etc. that are typically related to that. The song is pointing to the disillusion that people had when they saw that happening, the "truth" of the promise of that early hippy culture turning to lies, the joy dying, the garden flowers dead, mind now full of "red" (anger, hate, speed, etc. or regular consciousness instead of LSD "flower" consciousness), the loss of community, the friends treating you like a guest (instead of a friend, with that sense of distance or formality, etc.), and so on. Everyone came to SF or the hippy culture looking for "free love," but instead you'd better find someone to love instead of just looking to take.
