James – Sit Down Lyrics 14 years ago
And there's me thinking it was about being homeless and alone without any hope. There's semi-religious overtones especially in the last verse, that no matter how bad it gets God will always be there for you.

New Order – Sunrise Lyrics 14 years ago
I always thought that this song was about the anger the remaining band members felt towards Ian for doing what he did. I can imagine it would have acted as a kind of therapy and release and I am not aware of any other songs that reference Ian's suicide.

Coming at the end of low life, the closing track is full of resentment that the guiding light and driving force behind Joy Division, the 'God' in the song and the 'gifted' band member selfishly took his own life. I am sure they all love Ian now but that sense of regret of what might had been, as good as New Order were, must have been truly devastating. Such a waste.
