Chaz Jankel – Glad to Know You Lyrics 11 years ago
This is a pretty clever little song. It's actually about betrayal, and discovering who a person really is. "I thought you were my friend", "There must be other ways" and "I wish that I'd been told" all are what would be frustrated statements under normal circumstances, but by adding "glad to know you" and "pleased to meet you", there's a kind of cynical humor there. It's like, "yep, you screwed me over, in ways I never imagined, in fact, I'm only now seeing who you really are. Pleased to meet you!"

Toad the Wet Sprocket – Come Down Lyrics 14 years ago
This has always sounded like a guy struggling with addiction to me. Well, him struggling with that and asking for help. "Worked so hard to need this stuff and you tried so long to just ignore it" is a common story. So in his mind, she is 'up here' and he's 'down there' and he's not asking her to come down into his problems, he's just asking her to "come down" to his level to "help (him) stand". And what gets me is "words are hidden, understand" because as someone who's dealt with someone close with a 'problem', yes, it's hard to even talk about having a problem, and even when asking for help, the words are usually hidden, assuming you'll understand. Quoting a friend, "I've got some stuff I'm going through, you know?" Took me awhile to "understand"!

Third Eye Blind – Never Let You Go Lyrics 14 years ago
3egoocab is on it. "Sneaky and smoked out" is key. "Break a promise to your mother". "You say that I've changed...what's wrong with it". If you've ever dealt with addiction, this is very familiar. Her problem is "starting to show". "That's a good idea, break a promise to your mother" is sarcastic, maybe a little angry. She probably promised that she'd stop. She says that he's changed, yeah, he's not going down that road at this point, so yes, he's changed, but "what's wrong with it?" So they maybe shared that drink, that toke, that line, whatever it was, but at this point, all he knows is "it's wrong, it's wrong, it's wrong". Still, in the end he remembers the good things, even though he says "stupid", so yeah, she's like a sunburn, hurts like hell, but he'd like to "save" her, keep her close. "I guess we'll see."
