Elbow – Grounds for Divorce Lyrics 13 years ago
Absolutely no need for that :o that's your interpretation, other people have different ones, that's the beauty of lyrics. Just because its what you believe, doesn't make it right, and just because someone has a conflicting interpretation doesn't make them a wanker.

Radiohead – 15 Step Lyrics 13 years ago
I remember watching a documentary that said there used to be 15 Steps on a gallow, so someone who was getting executed would take there final 15 steps up the stairs and onto the gallows.

Hence "15 Steps and there a sheer drop"

I could be wrong though ...

Sex Pistols – God Save the Queen Lyrics 13 years ago
"It's about the political landscape at the time and the hopelessness that a lot of young people felt. "

And its quite sad how that is still true today, this song still holds some relevance in terms of the right wing regime that we are held against today.

Band of Skulls – impossible Lyrics 13 years ago
IMHO, I think this track is commenting on how men are expected not to be vulnerable and how it is a taboo to talk about depression, sadness, anxiety and the rest of it.

"I am a man 'cause you said I am" refers to how society expects a man to live up to their masculine stereotype.

"it's impossible to be invincible" refers him wanting to shake this stereotype off and wanting to open up because he doesn't want to live up to this stereotype, or how he feel's it's impossible to live up to being invincible.

I also believe that "who would have thought of sinking so low" and "Everyday I'm disappearing out of sight and out of hearing" are both references to depression or insecurity.

Great song, something that I feel I've been able to relate with :')

peace

Them Crooked Vultures – Warsaw Or The First Breath You Take After You Give Up Lyrics 13 years ago
I think fearnotofman could be right.
I think its about the frustration of still having your virginity and how this lad becomes alienated and feels persecuted for not loosing his virginity because its all around him but he's not getting any, thus -

"Feel like a no-tell motel painting,
out of place or ignored.
It's all medals & trophy's, trophy's and medal
& all before the race has been run."

and

"It's all "have nots,
have nones,
hey can I have some's?"
Until I've HAD ENOUGH
YET I'VE HAD NONE"

and then he finally 'drops the knife' (ie gives up trying, because he's found it?)

"Suddenly it gets easy.
The sun goes down.
The long arm of important things
disappears in her gown.
You finally drop
the knife,
forget you ever h....
It's such a good
night,
ain't forever.
It feels so good to give up, give in...
her arms."

he's gone and lost it, and feels good.

Maybe thats just a shallow interpretation, but it seems to make sense...
Best track off the album IMO, its like getting a big hug off the big man himself :)

Queens of the Stone Age – The Sky Is Fallin' Lyrics 13 years ago
when he sings
"But now to remind, not to go back to the low"
I wonder if its a reference back to No One Knows where he says

"I journey through the desert
Of the mind with no hope
I found low"

maybe just a little link, not sure?

Them Crooked Vultures – Gunman Lyrics 14 years ago
to me this could be about those smart ass wise guys who use words to provoke others, and uses words as fists (if you get what i mean)
"You're so clever you tear us apart
Then masquerade it as art, not smart. "

'gunman' sees right through this guy, and compares himself to a rabid animal (lion in a cage, angry ats etc), if this wise-guy even thinks about provoking gun man, he's gonna die by the tooth and nail.

"It don't' matter don't try to explain
You're just another dog to be trained/choke chain
You're gonna die by the tooth and nail
If you catch a tiger by the tail/Don't fail"

it might be deeper than that, but there's i get the sense of bitterness and references to mindless violence

Stereophonics – Superman Lyrics 14 years ago
"dropping people" refers to the 'you got opinions but aint got news'. so this guy is bitching / gossiping about people / giving bad opinions on people.
"drop of a hat" if you do something at the drop of a hat, you do it suddenly and easily, often without any reason.

"you turn IT on like a leaking tap" 'it' i think this means when he starts talking / bitching, it never stops.

Stereophonics – Superman Lyrics 14 years ago
to me this song speaks beautifully about a guy I know- a manipulating, self centred, ego-maniac who thinks he is IT. he only does things for his own gain, he plays mind games, and does everything he can to subtly but everybody below him in the social food chain.
he thinks he's superman.

"You don't know what it's been like meeting someone like you"
when i finally realised what this guy was up to, it opened my eyes up a little bit, it taught be not to be a massive dick.
what a gloriously bitter song, i love it :D

just to add, the more I listen to this song the more it reminds me of cocaine. i get the impression that the songs about excess, experimenting, and the ugly situations that have succumb because of it.

Mark Lanegan – Morning Glory Wine Lyrics 14 years ago
It's how you do me love
Like electrocution

the narrators having bad experiences with love, getting hurt.

I need someone to turn to
I need somebody
Wanna get high
I wanna get high

I think those lines sum it up nicely, he wants someone to turn to, but cant so he turns to drinking.

As for "Morning glory wine", i wonder if thats a reference to morning wood, and he's being deprived of sex so he drinks it away.

Queens of the Stone Age – Era Vulgaris Lyrics 14 years ago
i think it would make more sense if it was "there", fits in better with the greed theme that runs throughout the album, the image of someone taking all the food they can eat and getting blood everywhere but keep it off their face.

Them Crooked Vultures – New Fang Lyrics 14 years ago
It seems to me that it could be someone (maybe josh) looking back at some messy times, perhaps a drug addiction.

"Accept
what I left
far behind in a time
when my mind was like a landmine."

just an idea :)
