Gary Allen – Life Ain't Always Beautiful Lyrics | 8 years ago |
@[Thia007:10056] - I agree. Very underrated artist. |

I love this song. Haunting. |
Emiliana Torrini – Gollum's Song Lyrics | 8 years ago |
@[zenzella:6324] - Almost nobody can resist the ring. This is made clear in the book where the stronger characters would simply avoid it. Gandolf and Aragorn would not touch it. It corrupted Boromir and he never touched and in the book he was a stronger warrior than Aragorn. Faramir was the only character who could resist it other than Frodo and he spent little time with it. |
Queens of the Stone Age – The Vampyre Of Time And Memory Lyrics | 8 years ago |
"Ray...faith is the evidence of things not seen." |
Sting – Russians Lyrics | 8 years ago |
I enjoyed this song but saying he is brave for writing it is ridiculous. When this song came out Hollywood and pop music made it cool to equate the US behaviors as equal to those of the Soviet Union. For example, the U.S. supporting the El Salvadorian government or the whole disaster in Chile. While some of the actions taken by the U.S. to support bad people who were opposed to communist alternatives was morally challenged there is no way to compare that to the actions of the Soviet Union against their own people and others. Keira Knightley – A Step You Can't Take Back Lyrics | 9 years ago |
I think this song is about a person standing on a train platform after a painful breakup. The bag contains all of their worldly possessions. They realize that this relationship once seems like a good thing but now is end for them. On one hand it seems like the act of getting on the train may be the step they can't take back but I think instead this person is thinking of stepping in front of a moving train to end the pain by committing suicide. I guess for me that is the only confusion is the last act ending their life or simply leaving this relationship that has them feeling pain so bad it cuts to black. |
Aimee Mann – The Scientist Lyrics | 10 years ago |
This is such a great song. Even Amy's covers are deep. To me this is a romantic song about trying to revive a dying relationship. The singer wants to restart the relationship because she realizes she still loves this person. She wants to start fresh and try again. |
Aimee Mann – The Moth Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Love addiction and some codependency. |
Peaches – Fuck the Pain Away Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I think it is Stay in School. |
Waylon Jennings – If You See Me Getting Smaller Lyrics | 10 years ago |
This song was written, and also performed, by famed songwriter Jimmy Webb. According to Webb the line "If you see me getting smaller I'm leaving" came from Waylon Jennings. During some type of video/tv shoot Waylon told the director that the shoot was taking too long and said "If you see me getting smaller I'm leaving" before walking off into the sunset. |
Jason Mraz – Lucky Lyrics | 10 years ago |
You are a good person for staying true to your relationship with your husband during his deployment. I know a lot of guys who had issues with their significant others as a result of a deployment. Guys say it takes a special woman to love a soldier and that is very true. Kudos to you and thanks to your husband for his service. |
Passenger – Let Her Go Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Mike Rosenberg (aka Passenger) says "In my mind the song has two meanings the first is quite literal as I wrote it after a break up and it is about letting her go. But then there is a bigger idea going on and is more about not really understanding and knowing what you have until it is gone and I think everyone can definitely relate to." from http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=29317. I LOVE this song and can related to it as many others seem to as well. My favorite two verses are: Staring at the bottom of your glass Hoping one day you'll make a dream last But dreams come slow and they go so fast You see her when you close your eyes Maybe one day you'll understand why Everything you touch, surely dies Sometimes it feels like that is the story of my life. |
Johnny Cash – Hurt (Nine Inch Nails cover) Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Sorry ass clown. Even Trent says Cash's version is superior. |
Johnny Cash – Hurt (Nine Inch Nails cover) Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Wow. Great analysis. |
Citizen Cope – Pablo Picasso Lyrics | 11 years ago |
As one commenter noted Cope has said this song is about a deranged panhandler who is love with a mural located where he begs for spare change. |
Citizen Cope – Bullet And A Target Lyrics | 11 years ago |
It is about people who are either in a bad situation or make bad decisions or both. They are putting themselves between a "bullet and a target." You might make excuses "blame it on Zeus and Apollo. It could be the result of bad choices "knocked up in a pickup truck" or bad circumstances "She's got a dad who never gave a fuck" The end result is putting yourself in danger. |
Emiliana Torrini – Gollum's Song Lyrics | 12 years ago |
So true about the movie. I don't think many fans of the movie understood the books. Great song. I am hoping Jackson doesn't screw up the Hobbit too. |
The Smiths – I Know It's Over Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I think this is probably the saddest song ever written. Beautiful melody and lyrics. Morrissey created a masterpiece. |
Belly (US) – White Belly Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Belly songs are hard to interpret. There is another chorus with a few new lines at the end not listed here. I do think the song is somehow related to how women dressed and groomed during the grunge / alter-punk era where Belly was popular. Men and women wore black outfits and seemingly avoided the sun, especially on area where clothing was worn. I sort of like the concept of this being related to an abortion by a woman in this scene. She then turns to sex and drugs until her death where she goes while belly up in the sun. |
Brad Paisley – Whiskey Lullaby Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Happens all the time actually. The term for the guy who cheats with a military man's wife/girlfriend is a Jody boy. Happened to my partner in sniper school. It takes a special woman to love a soldier. |
Brad Paisley – Whiskey Lullaby Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Sorry to hear that about the ex girlfriend and her Jody boy. Thanks for your service. |
Nancy Sinatra – Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down) Lyrics | 13 years ago |
@EvolGRE - you are 100% correct re: stupidity of martial arts in Kill Bill and the superiority of QT's earlier movies. Fans are idiots. I was a competitive MMA fighter, trained in all that crap. Kill Bill martial arts are just stupid. But movie martial arts are like that. I do competitive shooting now. I know guys who advise 4 movies 4 martial arts and firearms. They tell the directors what they do is laughably stupid and the directors do it anyway. I guess the directors are right because the public does not seem to notice. |
Damien Rice – The Professor & La Fille Danse Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This is from the version with Damien and Lisa singing together. For me that is the definitive recording. And yes Damien's French is not perfect. The girl dances when she plays with me And sometimes I think that I love her Well, silence does not dare when we are together, Put the words to little Dodo (nickname for Dominique) The girl dances when she plays with me and the rain. I miss her. Why? No, no It's the song, the night, the wind The love, the sound of little Dodo(nickname Dominique). If you prefer translate La petite dodo as little sleep or nap. |

Eskobar – Someone New Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I'm LMAO at MikeDecipher's interpretation. This song is about a breakup between two people who still care deeply about each other. |
Peaches – Fuck the Pain Away Lyrics | 14 years ago |
@toddbox - that is the funniest intepretation of a song I've ever heard. I love how you keep going with it even as you flame out miserably. I don't what was funnier the comment about IUD being "incinerate used diapers" or the teaches of peaches being about parenting. Thanks for a good laugh. |
Peaches – Fuck the Pain Away Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Great song. Definitely about meaningless sex. Obviously some of the posters here just don't get Peaches. Too bad. She's awesome. |
Portishead – Gloomy Sunday Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This "is a song composed by Hungarian pianist and composer RezsÅ‘ Seress in 1933 to a Hungarian poem written by László Jávor (original Hungarian title of both song and poem "Szomorú vasárnap" (Hungarian pronunciation: [ˈsomoruË ËˆvɒʃaËrnÉ’p]), in which the singer mourns the untimely death of a lover and contemplates suicide." from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gloomy_Sunday There are many notable singers who have recorded this song. The definitive version is generally considered the one recorded by Billy Holiday in 1941. I absolutely love the Portishead version so I posted the lyrics. The original Hungarian song lacks the final verse where the singer realizes she is only dreaming and awakes to find her lover by her side. Personally I think the song is more powerful in the original without the happy ending. Here are a couple additional links: http://www.snopes.com/music/songs/gloomy.asp http://classical-iconoclast.blogspot.com/2009/03/gloomy-sunday-song-with-curse.html And here is the song in Hungarian: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOqiolytFw4&feature=related |
Beck – Everybody's Gotta Learn Sometime Lyrics | 14 years ago |
The song is played in both the beginning and the ending of the film. In the beginning it is on a cassette he is playing which he then tosses out the window. |
Damien Rice – Rootless Tree Lyrics | 14 years ago |
SaSaSushi has the correct lyrics. I agree with AiR7oN's interpretation of the lyrics. |
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – As I Sat Sadly by Her Side Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think matt2971 nailed it. |
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – Still in Love Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I generally agree with yukfoo. He committed suicide at home. The only difference I have is I believe their relationship was over. She was going to move on but he could not, so he decided to kill himself. She might think he's crazy because he still loves her even after the breakup has driven him to kill himself. Perhaps she did something to hurt him. He did not kill himself to free her but to free himself from his feeling of loss. He did not kill himself to hurt her and that is why he tells her to either hide her feelings and memories of him or simply toss them into the street. |
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – The Ballad of Robert Moore and Betty Coltrane Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Great song. I agree it should have been on murder ballads. I think Nick is implying that perhaps instead trying to kill each other that Robert Moore, the "man with the wing-nut ears", the "frog-eyed man" and the sailor should have realized their real enemy was Betty Coltrane. Clearly Betty Coltrane is a harpy and when she steals the money from everyone at the end it is obvious she never cared about any of these men. Another awesome tale of "love" gone wrong from Nick Cave. |
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – Shoot Me Down Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I believe Nick is singing about how falling in love makes us vulnerable. In the beginning of the song he is in her sights because he loves her. Then he goes on to describe the feeling of being of love. Later he is singing about the feeling of being in love but afterwards he feels like his emotional commitment is dangerous because soon she will shoot him down, in flames. I think this is a great song about the risks of loving another and in particular the hesitation we feel committing to someone after we've been hurt by somebody. |
