Sharon Van Etten – I Know Lyrics | 9 years ago |

Angel Olsen – White Fire Lyrics | 10 years ago |
okay, i have some suggestions here. not sure if they're correct. just some ideas. i think it may be, instead: but when i look into your eyes it pieces up my heart i heard my mother thinking me right back into my birth i see an elevator a moment i am above so i turned on a picture show i look for you or someone who can still remind me of the tight grip and the sun lick burn your fire for no witness -- it's the only way it's done |

The National – England Lyrics | 10 years ago |
couldn't care less, i think ;) |
Angel Olsen – Dance Slow Decades Lyrics | 10 years ago |
there are some parts i'm unsure of here. for example, "thought i had ideas once... but they were all alone"... i'm not sure if she's saying "alone"... maybe it's "unknown," or any other number of possibilities :) but if you have any suggestions, i appreciate the help. |
The Velvet Underground – Venus in Furs Lyrics | 10 years ago |

Belly (US) – Every Word Lyrics | 10 years ago |
i always see it interpreted as "you thought i would leave you," but i'm pretty sure she's saying "you thought i would HEAR you" |
Robin Thicke – Blurred Lines Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I didn't read any of the other comments, and I don't really care either way... but it kind of seems to me that this song is basically advocating date rape. |
Neko Case – I'm From Nowhere Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I could use some help with these. I wasn't sure where to put many of the breaks in the text, and there are some lyrics I'm definitely not sure about. :) |
Lightning Dust – Diamond Lyrics | 11 years ago |
the consensus out there seems to be that she's saying "slow, stay"...but I don't quite think that's correct. I'm not sure though. instead of "slow," it sounds sometimes like "it's love" or "this love" or something about love :) so if you have any suggestions regarding this, or any other part of the song, please do share. |

Houses – Beginnings Lyrics | 11 years ago |
This is what is printed in the digital booklet: I watched the house As it fell right to the ground. I was away from you. And I watched the birds As they fell out from the sky. Into the hands of decay I wish there was a way for you. And I felt your voice As it carried with the wind. Like a fire in my ears. Like the darkness of fear. Like the voice of God. And now I'll turn to dust And the ground will shake for you. Like a song in your heels Like a ghost in the field. And I would bathe in ash As it rained down from above. And it would cast me out now Into the fields of love. And I watched the birds As they fell out from the sky. Into the hands of decay I wish there was a way for you. And I felt your voice As it carried with the wind. Like a fire in my ears. Like the darkness of fear. Like the voice of God. |
Deerhunter – Monomania Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I'm not sure, but the beginning sounds pretty similar to what Jeffnbd suggested... perhaps it's "my only boy couldn't leave his name here..." and I agree that it's "come on god, hear my sick prayer" |
Deerhunter – Monomania Lyrics | 11 years ago |
In 19th century psychiatry, monomania (from Greek monos, one, and mania, mania) was a form of partial insanity conceived as single pathological preoccupation in an otherwise sound mind. Partial insanity, variations of which enjoyed a long pre-history in jurisprudence, was in contrast to the traditional notion of total insanity, exemplified in the diagnosis of mania, as a global condition effecting all aspects of understanding and which reflected the position that the mind or soul was an indivisible entity. Coined by the French psychiatrist Jean-Étienne Dominique Esquirol (1772-1840) around 1810, monomania was a new disease-concept characterized by the presence of an expansive idée fixe in which the mind was diseased and deranged in some facets but otherwise normal in others. Esquirol and his circle delineated three broad categories of monomania coherent with the traditional tripartite classification of the mind into intellectual, emotional and volitional faculties. Emotional monomania is that in which the patient is obsessed with only one emotion or several related to it; intellectual monomania is that which is related to only one kind of delirious idea or ideas. Although, monomania was retained as one of seven recognized categories of mental illness in the 1880 US census, its importance as a psychiatric diagnostic category was in decline from the mid-19th century. It no longer appears in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. |

Keaton Henson – Sweetheart, What Have You Done to Us Lyrics | 11 years ago |
and I admit, I think you may have broken it .... I think he is saying |
Keaton Henson – Lying to You Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Of course I could be wrong... but I saw it differently. I thought he was referring to someone else at the end of the song. Someone who came before. 'Cause once I found her but now she is gone |
Tegan and Sara – Shock to Your System Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I think that it's sort of like... well, Sara is writing this to herself, saying this stuff to herself. |
Night Beds – Even If We Try Lyrics | 11 years ago |
just some thoughts... :) it sounds a bit like "descend upon this age" rather than "stage"... and I can't make out that next line, but I can't heat "running melodies" no matter how I try... I think it's "hear me, calling" instead of "give me, calling"… and maybe "made ourselves our lonesome nights" (not sure though) I don't think it's "down on call we'll grow" … I'm not certain, but could be something more like "down long hollow road…"? and the next line is "it's wilted, winding bones" |
Tegan and Sara – Closer Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I'm sorry sarah3lis3, I can't recall exactly where I read or heard it... if I come across the interview or article again I'll let you know :) |
Tegan and Sara – Closer Lyrics | 11 years ago |
agnyxtsy, I'm generally not one to quibble over meaning... as it is, essentially, a personal thing. but, I disagree with what you're saying. I think it's more about the feelings that exist before sex, before making out even... perhaps even before completely acknowledging what the feelings are. it's that time when you're younger… before expectation, before rejection… a time that is full of only possibility. nothing is unrequited. the crush itself is more than enough. as Tegan said, I believe, it's "love before love." |

Tegan and Sara – I Was a Fool Lyrics | 11 years ago |
yes, this is how I came to think of it... when compared with standing still, it makes sense. |
Tegan and Sara – How Come You Don't Want Me Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I don't have the actual physical album yet… waiting on it to arrive. Hence I don't have the actual lyrics either (assuming they're included, that is). I hear some things a bit differently here… the chorus, in particular. at first I thought she was saying "why don't you wanna wake this up" and "couldn't try and meet me here"… so bear in mind, these are merely suggestions :) I can't say that I'm sorry for getting so ahead of myself I can't say that I'm sorry for loving you and hating myself I had nothing to show you I had nothing to hold you down it's killing me to walk away how come you don't want me now why don't you wanna wait this out how come you always lead me on, never take my call, hear me out why don't you wanna win me now why don't you wanna show me off tell me why you couldn't try, couldn't try and keep me here I see you by my house walking with a different girl I see you by my house talking with a different girl she's got nothing to show you she's got nothing to hold you down you're killing me, walk away how come you don't want me now why don't you wanna wait this out how come you always lead me on, never take my call, hear me out why don't you wanna win me now why don't you wanna show me off tell me why you couldn't try, couldn't try and keep me here one day soon, I won't be the one who waits on you some day soon, I won't be the one who waits on you how come you don't want me now how come you always lead me on, never take my call, hear me out why don't you wanna win me now tell me why you couldn't try, couldn't try and keep me here how come you don't want me now why don't you wanna wait this out how come you always lead me on, never take my call, hear me out why don't you wanna win me now why don't you wanna show me off tell me why you couldn't try, couldn't try and keep me here how come you don't want me now why don't you wanna wait this out how come you always lead me on, never take my call, hear me out why don't you wanna win me now why don't you wanna show me off tell me why you couldn't try, couldn't try and keep me here |

Pearl Jam – Wishlist Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I like the simpler sentiments in this one: I wish I was the souvenir you kept your house key on I wish I was the pedal brake that you depended on |
Joy Division – Insight Lyrics | 11 years ago |
"I've always considered the song to be being an insight into how meaningless life has become for the narrator (be that Curtis or not). And having this insight the narrator stops being afraid (but of what?)" Of what? Well, if the narrator's life has become meaningless, then he presumably has nothing left to lose and, thus, nothing to be afraid of. |

Pavement – You Are A Light Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Also, instead of "Who was it that said the world was mainly all divorces and spare change" I can't help but hear "Who was it that said the world was mania, divorces and space change?" And I can't hear LIVED in this line..."High life, lived, comatosed him, bring it all in"... perhaps he's saying LIT? |
Pavement – You Are A Light Lyrics | 11 years ago |
My drive stick, gotta love it, automatic Dry ice, skid, button your slippers… [???] And oh, I have to die on Sunday Irate kid, laundry-matt spinners, and let's act like winners And oh, who roams with the isolater? Gotta roam 'cause I am the isolater |

Earlimart – I'm a Safe Inside Lyrics | 11 years ago |
thank you, spookywithdrawn. i took most of your suggestions. i'm still not sure about "come speak in the cold" (doesn't it sound like he's saying something else there, before it?), but i changed it anyway... because it made more sense than what i had. i like the "promises are fine for a while 'til they're something that i'm used to" part... and it makes more sense to me now :) |
The Lemonheads – Ride With Me Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I've always been curious as to other opinions regarding this song... |
Earlimart – I'm a Safe Inside Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I'm really not sure about "no commas speak in the cold" and I'm pretty sure he's not saying "promises are fine for a little while"... so any help will be appreciated |
