Nightwish – Amaranth Lyrics 13 years ago
Lol good point.
Well this is only my interpretation, but I think the angel represents the state of the band during the bad times (weak, frail etc.) and she has been blinded to represent the band's blind future. The boys take her back to the village, but the other villagers look on with disdain and eventually decide to burn the angel. I think here it's showing that the world is against the idea of the band being eternal. Luckily the angel escapes, and now the band is what it is. :D

Nightwish – Escapist Lyrics 14 years ago
This is basically summing up Tuomas as a person.
There are references to The Dark Tower series which Tuomas has always loved, and there are also popular references of the Dead Boy and dying children, ie Tuomas becoming an adult and leaving his tranquil childhood behind, and also a slightly more subtle on-going reference to the Owl, ie a huge reference to the natural beauty Tuomas has been exposed to throughout his life.
The Clayborn family were known for emmigrating to The New World, so "Clayborn Voyage without an end" is saying that the voyage represents Tuomas always present in his fantasy world and never going back to reality. Apparently the male nightingale sings the most rather than the female. While Tuomas has never thought of himself as a singer, composing his songs to him is singing, so this fits perfectly in that Tuomas is the nightingale.

Nightwish – Meadows of Heaven Lyrics 14 years ago
This song, compared to quite a lot of Tuomas' songs is actually quite literal. When he was young, Tuomas was surrounded by acres of woods and fields while he lived in a big house. This is basically a song to commemorate Tuomas' childhood, and the last bit is about the state of the place now that he has grown up.

Rhapsody – Unholy Warcry Lyrics 14 years ago
This is pretty simple, in that Dargor has been chosen to venture into the caves of Dar-Kunor to find and destroy Nekron's seventh black book. It also seems to suggest that Dargor used to be evil, and it is later revealed that Dargor is half-demon. But he became good. The only part I don't get is this:

He is Kron, Kron's disciple
He is sworn to return
To avenge the lost divine wars

Who is "he"? Who is Kron's disciple? Is it Venkur, Dargor's father? If so that would make a heck of a lot of sense.

Rhapsody – Sacred Power Of Raging Winds Lyrics 14 years ago
In a nutshell, as Dargor the chosen one continues his journeys up north through the mountains to reach the caves of Dar-Kunor to destroy the final black book of Nekron. The mountains are guarded by Vankar, a hellish demon. But we find out that Vankar is in fact Dargor's father, and Dargor will fight Vankar until he is destroyed, even though they are father and son and Dargor is half-demon.
What I don't get is the relationship between Nekron and Vankar. Are they one and the same?

Nightwish – Ghost Love Score Lyrics 14 years ago
This song is not about Jesus Christ.

There are huge references to Tuomas through the Ocean and the blue memory.
The siren is one of Tuomas' recurring themes, and it is bringing him back to reality when this love disappeared, and Tuomas "still writes his songs".
There is also of course The Child which is supposed to be Tuomas.
"The Child will be born again
That siren carried him to me"
Means that while Tuomas supposedly loved someone and it went wrong, he will still be his same old self with his wonderful childish interests.
"Redeem me into childhood
Show me myself without a shell"
is also a reference to Tuomas wanting to keep his loves from childhood while he is a grown man.
BUT Tuomas still loves her, so in a way he kind of wants it both ways.
Maybe this woman died, hence it being called Ghost Love Score and the reason why they are no longer together in this song.

Nightwish – Ocean Soul Lyrics 14 years ago
Tuomas has always had a thing about the sea. Another reference that I can think of is:
"I just wish the tide would catch me first.. give me the death I always longed for.." from The Poet and the Pendulum. I always wondered why he'd enjoy drowning, but maybe Tuomas sees it as a relief because he loves the sea so much. But I think this piece is suicidal, and suicide can sometimes be tempting, so maybe this is him at that time being tempted to commit suicide in the best way (to him) possible.

Nightwish – Amaranth Lyrics 15 years ago
Well as we've already established, Amaranth is a flower that represents eternity.
I've realised that the whole of Dark Passion Play is stages in Tuomas' life that start with his death (The Poet and the Pendulum), and then slowly works its way backwards to times within his childhood (Meadows of Heaven).
This gave me the idea that this song is a reference to Tuomas' attitude that the band was to exist eternally whether Tarja was in the band or not. This is reflected in the actual letter to Tarja firing her, where it says:
"The band will always live on, as long as the fire burns."
The first verse must describe Tuomas who has to me always seemed to be a lone wolf, even when he is part of the band - he writes the music and the lyrics, for one thing, without hardly any interruptions from anyone else. It also describes "war between him and the day" which must also describe his problems with Tarja. It could also describe all the "Tarja-hollics" who hated him for firing her.
The chorus as well seems to describe the band which is a "snow-white sorrow" (could be referring to Ocean Soul - Century Child Album), and its eternal state of the "hiding amaranth". While "in a land of the daybreak" must mean the new era or the resolving of the hard times before Tarja was fired.
"You believe but what you see,
you receive but what you give." could also be a reference to the band - you receive but what you give is again Tuomas' attitude that the band's soul purpose was to entertain rather than get money for it. And I think the first line of this is stating the obvious to clarify that the listener is a normal human being, before advising them with the next line which is just the same sentence turned topsy turvy.
The second verse reflects the original theme of the song before the lyrics were changed - reaching out. While this may be skeptical, it could be a reference to Anette as someone who "ever dares", since Anette was eventually originally turned down to be the new singer, but she sent in another recording and never gave up, making her the new singer as we all know.
The middle part also mentions reaching and searching for "something untouched". This is hard to interpret - it could mean all sorts of things: a perfect singer/band/life or something personal that none of us will know about. "Hearing voices, sorrow, never-fading calling..." could mean that people have been trying to shape Tuomas' own life by advising him on which singer to pick or not firing Tarja etc. This of course would turn into sorrow, and if it is constant, it would become never-fading calling.
The last chorus is a tone above the original key for the song, which I think proves Tuomas' determination to make the point that the band will remain eternal "as long as the fire burns".

Sirenia – The Other Side Lyrics 15 years ago
It seems to be a song about a little sister who died, and is therefore passing to "the other side" IMO. Btw, does anyone know what the words are that the choir sing in the middle? That's the best part! :D

Nightwish – The Poet And The Pendulum Lyrics 15 years ago
No I don't think so... I just think that he has an original way of expressing himself. To add to your amazing analysis, Leftour, Empathica is to do with the Steven King Dark Tower series which is repeated in 7 Days to the Wolves.
He also mentions the Meadows of Heaven again, and I heard somewhere that this first track is supposed to represent the "death" of Tuomas, while the rest like For the Heart I Once Had, Escapist and Meadows of Heaven are all flashbacks into his childhood. How I wish I could write music like this.

Nightwish – Master Passion Greed Lyrics 15 years ago
Hell I wish I could write songs like this. The heart-wrenching lyrics with the aggressive riffs and Marco bringing out Tuomas' grief make this one of Nightwish's best songs.
This is Tuomas' response to the way Marcelo "sought, seduced and tamed" Tarja and made her corrupt and "above" her fans. But it's not just a direct accusation. He even admits to making mistakes himself (I fuck up everything byt let me explain) which I think is really admirable. The trumpet riffs at the end are something I've always loved in Tuomas' writings, and the tolling bells send shivers down my spine every time.

Nightwish – Higher Than Hope Lyrics 15 years ago
No it's definitely Passiontide - a direct reference to the suffering of Christ, hence the references of Him and the angel. This has always been my favourite Nightwish song, and now that I know its meaning it seems even more powerful.
