Eels – Fresh Blood Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Being from Hombre Lobo ('werewolf') and with the howls, it seems obvious to me it's about a werewolf, but as a metaphor for feeling like a beast. 'I'm so tired of the same old crud' 'Help me out of the shape I'm in' come over s double meanings, both as a monster that literally needs fresh blood and a desperate person that feels they need someone to lend them a hand and pull them out of their misery. |
Kate Bush – Surrender Into the Roses Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Apparently Kate wrote it after seeing "Blood and Roses" aka "Et Mourir de Plaisir" which is a 1960s French film adaptation of Joseph Sheridan LeFanu's "Carmilla", one of the earliest vampire gothic novels. Carmilla is the main character, a vampire who falls in love with her victim who is a young girl. This seems to be from the girl's point of view. |
PJ Harvey – Hardly Wait Lyrics | 11 years ago |
It was definitely Snow White in the glass coffin. I believe Sleeping Beauty was just asleep on her bed in her tower. |
Garbage – Tornado Lyrics | 11 years ago |
It does say "C'mon Shirl". It sounds like a sample of movie dialogue or something. They obviously chose i because of Shirley. |
Mook – Picture In Me Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Mook are so consistently good for such an unknown band. They should be a lot bigger than they are. |
Mook – broken-bee (light me) Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I also found them after I wiki'd Paul, being blown away by his performance in There Will Be Blood (moreso after I found out his age and preparation time). At first I listened to their songs a few times, and liked it but figured I was projecting onto the band because I was impressed with Paul's acting. Then I listened to them some more. And after a while, I realized I couldn't stop listening to them. It's chronic somebody please help me - I'm addicted to Mook. |
Mook – Hooded Hawks Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Lyric corrections: Possibly, creation "sans" the people? But could be "sums". Definitely: "With cynical eye I hooded-hawk swoop, a deadly descent... etc" "I am lost and forgotten falling from the sky" This song gets stuck in my head for days. Love Mook. |
David Bowie – Cat People (Putting Out Fire) Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Fantastic track, from a very solid film imho. Written for the film, it can easily be interpreted as the perspective of the cat man Paul Gallier. In the film, Paul tells his sister he's 'been waiting a long time' for her ('well you've been so long'). He begs her to aid him and to embrace her animal nature ('feel my blood enraged - it's just the fear of losing you'), asking her to lie next to him ('just be still with me - you wouldn't believe what I've been through'). By succumbing to his own nature and killing humans, he's putting out fire with gasoline. |
PJ Harvey – Catherine Lyrics | 13 years ago |
My immediate thought was the same. This song could pretty much have come straight from Heathcliff's mouth. |
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – Hard On for Love Lyrics | 13 years ago |
It is actually "consensual" not "concensual". It comes from "consent". |
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – Henry Lee (feat. PJ Harvey) Lyrics | 13 years ago |
It's not nasty. It's because she feels heartbroken. |
David Bowie – Golden Years Lyrics | 14 years ago |
"A Knight's Tale" came out in 2001, this song was on the album "Station To Station" released in 1976. Ergo, you're way incorrect dude. |
Rob Zombie – The Ballad of Resurrection Joe and Rosa Whore Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This song is about a 1958 English period drama/horror film "Corridors Of Blood", about the discovery of anaesthesia with Boris Karloff as Dr. Bolton and Christopher Lee as an unscrupulous cutthroat and grave robber by the name of "Resurrection" Joe. There's a young whore called Rosa in it, who Joe rapes or tries to rape, and an innkeeper's wife called Rachel. "You can't separate the pain from the knife" is a quote from the movie, while "The Doctor Of Seven Dials" was the working title. |
The Gun Club – The Fire Of Love Lyrics | 14 years ago |
The fire of love is burning me The fire of love won't let me be Oh my dear, hear this my plea Because of you, it's burning in me Oh I can't wait for the streams to flow Those eyes won't see my love no more I'm sorry for the things that I've done Forgive me dear, my only one And now you're back, once again you're mine To have and hold till the end of time The moon shines down from up above It's light to seal the fire of love The fire of love The fire of love |

The Cramps – Fissure Of Rolando Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Oh and it's on their final studio album "Fiends Of Dope Island" |
The Cramps – Fissure Of Rolando Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Unpleasant in what way? Not many of their fans would even call them a 'pleasant' band... |
The Cramps – Voodoo Idol Lyrics | 14 years ago |
"Yeah he rolled on the ground "And he danced while reading his hands" should be: "They rolled on the ground "These fans were really sent" |
David Bowie – Star Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Like so many have said before, this album is A-C-E. There isn't a bad or even mediocre tune on it - consistent, well-ordered and above all designed to inspire. "I could fall in love alright as a Rock'n'roll Star..." |
Avril Lavigne – Sk8er Boi Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Avril is a poser every bit as much as Miley. She just has a different mask. A different flavour. |
David Bowie – Lady Stardust Lyrics | 14 years ago |
In my opinion, this song was written originally about Marc Bolan but later appropriated into the Ziggy saga, in the new context referring to Bowie/Ziggy. Even though his hair was red rather than black. |
David Bowie – Lady Stardust Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Poor Marc - if he hasn't he never will. |
Avril Lavigne – Sk8er Boi Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I can't _believe_ how _inane_ and _idiotically lame_ the so-called "lyrics" to this so-called "song" are. And I cannot believe that a poseur of avr*l l*vigne's magnitude can actually be seen as Punk or Rock of any sort. She's just a pop airhead. |
David Bowie – Big Brother Lyrics | 14 years ago |
No, it's not saxophone - I play sax and no saxophone would ever make that kind of sound. It's a trumpet sound, and I'm fairly sure it's synthesized. Not only did I read that somewhere, but there is no trumpet or trumpet player listed on the credits and I'm fairly sure that even Bowie can't play trumpet [whereas he can play a synthesizer]. This is a fantastic song, perfectly-placed on a bloody brilliant album. What an emotional trip, in such a context... this album leaves me spent like no other. And I wouldn't have it any other way. |

David Bowie – Velvet Goldmine Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Precisely - well-said. |
David Bowie – Starman Lyrics | 15 years ago |
In my humble opinion, this song fits neatly into the saga of Ziggy Stardust... it is a description of the children and young people first catching Zig's cosmic Rock'N'Roll soundwaves and naturally, being the right type of young people, they're taking notice of them. He so becomes their "Starman", their celestial saviour, and they feel the need to keep the knowledge of his existence secret from those who might endanger him and themselves, as adults who cannot understand his nature. This is the scenario same as "dangerous" music and role models being banned by their parents, as when Rock'N'Roll surfaced in the 1950s. Even today, kids may be banned by their parents for listening t music considered "unwholesome" by them. So this has the same significance, the only real difference is that Ziggy is from outer Space, which, in this song, could very well be an exaggeration of how "dangerous" musicians are viewed by adults. Finally, I'm wondering if the fact that parts of the music parallel "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" holds any significance-- perhaps what the Starman is offering is a beautiful but alien world to those who choose to hear about it. |
David Bowie – Starman Lyrics | 15 years ago |
brandondastoog: I'm pretty sure this song was released several years before the Germs formation. |
David Bowie – Within You Lyrics | 15 years ago |
@ candystripe: In all fairness to Sarah, she didn't appear to hear Jareth's song at all. She was far too busy chasing her pesky little brother ;) |
The Cramps – Human Fly Lyrics | 15 years ago |
THANK you! ;) |
The Cramps – Garbageman Lyrics | 15 years ago |
"To live an unfettered life-- THAT should be what it makes you want to do!" -- Lux Interior The Cramps seem to have written this song as their manifesto-- a deadly warning to poseurs and a war cry to rock'n'rollers. It may also be about how the original music is the most real, a view held by Lux Interior to all accounts. There are references to 1960s band The Trashmen and the classic rock song "Louie Louie" ["Louie Louie Louie Lou-eye/ The bird's the word and do you know why"] Phrases like "You ain't no punk, you punk!" "You gotta live until you're dead/ You got to rock till you see red now" and "You can't dig me, you can't dig NOTHIN'" are further evidences of the general intent. |
The Cramps – Kizmiaz Lyrics | 15 years ago |
The great joke of this song is that "Kizmiaz" sounds like "Kiss my ass". Hence, "You would swim all the way from Alcatraz to Kizmiaz, Kiss my ass" |
The Cramps – Like A Bad Girl Should Lyrics | 15 years ago |
The lead singer Lux wrote this song about his wife Poison Ivy, who starred in the video clip for it. |
The Gun Club – For The Love of Ivy Lyrics | 15 years ago |
@ Ohsweetnutthin: Your friend is right, to the best of my knowledge. The Cramps and the Gun Club had connections-- they shared guitarist Brian Tristan (renamed Kid Congo Powers during his time with the Cramps, who was an original Gun Club member before changing teams and then switching back again. The line "Elvis From Hell" is an accurate description of Cramps co-founder, singer and lyricist Lux Interior, who was Poison Ivy's husband from the mid-1970s up until his tragic demise last February. "Elvis From Hell", and later similar descriptions such as "psychosexual Elvis/werewolf hybrid" are often used to describe Lux. It follows that "My heart is broken" maybe because Ivy's not available, though this is an unfounded guess. |
