Mark Knopfler – Prairie Wedding Lyrics

I'm not sure why, but this is my favourite of all Knopfler's songs, and I've listened to them all hundreds of times! It is just a beautiful, tender, yet haunting song. It has special meaning to me also because one of the first times I met my wife was on a train platform in London, and I will never forget how beautiful she looked that day. 'Like an Angel', as Knopfler says. |

Dire Straits – Telegraph Road Lyrics

I read somewhere that Knopfler got his inspiration for this song from a book he read once whilst touring called Growth of The Soil by Knut Hamsun. The book earned Hamsun the Nobel Prize for literature in 1920. It's well worth a read if you have the patience, it's basically the story of a guy that settles in the wilderness and witnesses civilisation (and all its complications) developing around him. |
