Mark Knopfler – Prairie Wedding Lyrics 15 years ago
I'm not sure why, but this is my favourite of all Knopfler's songs, and I've listened to them all hundreds of times! It is just a beautiful, tender, yet haunting song. It has special meaning to me also because one of the first times I met my wife was on a train platform in London, and I will never forget how beautiful she looked that day. 'Like an Angel', as Knopfler says.

Dire Straits – Telegraph Road Lyrics 15 years ago
I read somewhere that Knopfler got his inspiration for this song from a book he read once whilst touring called Growth of The Soil by Knut Hamsun. The book earned Hamsun the Nobel Prize for literature in 1920. It's well worth a read if you have the patience, it's basically the story of a guy that settles in the wilderness and witnesses civilisation (and all its complications) developing around him.
