The Kills – Cheap and Cheerful Lyrics

This song is just about going crazy, finding edge, living life. Its vague enough for it to mean a lot of things.
There's a genius remix of this by Sinden in the We Make it Good series. I highly recommend you check it out |

Beck – Cell Phone's Dead Lyrics

It is VERY much like the Gorillaz. Actually the way I heard about this song was by making a Gorillaz playlist on Pandora radio. This song mixes a lot of different instrumental and electronic sounds and is a mix of a few different genres, just like a Gorillaz's song. |

Gary Jules – Mad World (Tears for Fears cover) Lyrics
| 15 years ago

This song must be the most emotional song in the whole entire world. I get chills everytime I hear it. I love the way Gary Jules sings this song because he's not focused on perfecting his voice. He practically whispers this song and you can hear parts when his voice cracks a little. It makes the mood so eerie and real. This song is very minimalistic, it's only him and his piano. Just a few notes and a few words. It gives the song that lonely feeling thats so simple yet so powerful.
I think the lyrics are so perfect for the message of this song. It sums up what it's like to be completely and utterly alone. It's that point beyond a sad phase. It describes that emotional state of being completely detached from everything. Not feeling a connection to anyone or anything. What really makes this song so depressing is that the singer sounds completely hopeless. He knows this is not a phase, this is a harsh reality of life. There's no point for a tomorrow, everyday is the same. The same "worn out places, worn out faces". |

Depeche Mode – Personal Jesus Lyrics

I very much agree with starfaery. You can take it far beyond the metaphor of someone picking up a phone for you. The Personal Jesus is someone or something you can fall back on. To me, the dark mood of the song created by the eerie sounds and his monotone voice make me think of the message differently, like a relapse on drugs for example. |
