Kutless – Perspectives Lyrics 15 years ago
I am writing here for the first time, but feel that I may have a likely interpretation of this wonderful song.

Perspective - meaning - Subjective Evaluation of Relative Significance; a point of view.

The song is about changing your point of reference. As a non-Christian, you may view the world as a hopeless place. "It feels like your life's crashing down all around you." The writer is asking the non-Christians to ask themselves if they really believe that there could be someone who cares and understands.

The writer, knowing of the power of Jesus Christ, then explains that true "freedom" comes from within by the power of Christ. The changing of the "lens" is the changing of your heart that takes place when accepting Christ. (And I can attest to the changing of my life and views after accepting Christ as my Savior).

The next verse is a beautiful physical illustration of the "point of view". Not only are they looking through different colors of the stained glass, but the description of what they are looking at changes. "Jacket" or "Coat", "Red" or "White". If the child had only moved "a few degrees", he may have seen the "Jackets in White" (which is the true color). A shifting of your heart (perspective) will lead you to see the truth.

I would urge people to move towards what God has planned for their life. Change your perspective. See through God's eyes. It will show you a life that does not end with death, but an eternal life that is filled with amazing joy. Help others to change their perspective by showing them a different angle. Show them your perspective and allow them to view things through the eyes of a Great Creator.

There is no "color" of glass you can look through that will change a color to white. Therefore the mother is looking through a clear pain. A clear unobstructed view. We have all heard the terms "seeing red" (when you are mad), "shades of green" (when we are talking about greed), or "looking through rose colored glasses" (to make things look more like we would want them). These are all examples of perspectives. There perspectives are our own ability to manipulate what God makes clear to us. I don't believe that the writer has used red specifically other than to show a great contrast. The child is not mad, but red is one of the darkest colors in stained glass. The reason for the colors is to show that the mother is seeing clearly and the young child is seeing a very different color. A mother would always have her "young child" very close to her, yet even being this close together, they still see from two distinctively different point of views.
