Gotye – State Of The Art Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Yeah it's bossa nova not nossanova. Also, it should say "these amazing simulations" instead of "there amazing simulations" |
Franz Ferdinand – No You Girls Lyrics | 12 years ago |
dolcevita, I understand that the story gives you a way to interpret the song, which is nice, but I don't think most people (other than you, but you obviously already know what happened) care if your story is true or not. |
Karen O and the Kids – Worried Shoes Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I love this.. perfectly describes how you can get tied up (literally in this song) by things, worry about things. And sometimes at some point you just suddenly realize you don't have to worry about things at all. The difference between worrying and caring - you can care for people or care about things without worrying about them. All too often those two seem to go together. |
Lisa Mitchell – Neopolitan Dreams Lyrics | 14 years ago |
that's exactly how I feel about this song too. |
The XX – Basic Space Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think "Basic space, open air. Don't look away, when there's nothing there" could also be saying you have to face the problem that there's nothing there, which could be facing the fact that there's no real love. I think it sort of matches with some of the other lines like "I can't let it out, I still let you in" meaning you have to drive someone out of your heart, because the other person doesn't feel the same way about you, but find yourself unable to do so. Something like that... I think this song is basicly about holding someone too close when you shouldn't. |
The XX – Crystalised Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think both the crystal meth explanation and the relationship explanation make sense (as does the crystallization btw). I was thinking maybe it's both: the song is comparing a relationship to the use of crystal meth. |
Daft Punk – Robot Rock Lyrics | 14 years ago |
So funny a lot of people don't even hear the lyrics at all. I love it! |
Blood Red Shoes – This is Not for You Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I understand what you mean :) |
Franz Ferdinand – No You Girls Lyrics | 14 years ago |
what's bullshit? |
Franz Ferdinand – No You Girls Lyrics | 14 years ago |
So you're saying this song is about you? ;) I think everyone applies songs to themselves by the way. That's one of the loveliest things about songs :) |
Franz Ferdinand – No You Girls Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Girls don't know and boys don't care (about physical vs. emotional feelings) This doesn't remind me of a relationship really.. More of when two people meet and flirt around and the boy wants sex while the girl wants to fall in love. The boy will feel betrayed because the girl doesn't want sex, while the girls mind was on a completely different track, not knowing the boy really wants sex, and the girl feels betrayed because the boy doesn't have any interest in her apart from sexual interest, and he doesn't care about how that makes her feel. Something like that anyway.. |
Elle Milano – Curiosity Killed the Popstar Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think it's about how it's hard to stay true to yourself and not be influenced by what people want from you. You mustn't let the "prize" (success or fame probably) blind you (stars in our eyes), because you'll probably have to pay for it too (being dishonest). So signing with a major label can be very dangerous because you might be changed, moulded into something that's not really you. |
Lady GaGa – Just Dance Lyrics | 15 years ago |
elKAPPA does have a point, but I´m not sure if 11-15 year olds, or at least 11-13 year olds, will think enough about the lyrics to understand that. I think most of them will just prcoess it superficially, just knowing it's about getting too drunk to remember what the hell you've been doing and partying all night anyway, without really thinking through if that's a good tihng or a bad thing. Surely most 11-15 year olds are already familiar with the theme, but listening to songs like this will only reinforce the thought that getting drunk is "cool". Especially those who already do stuff like this shouldn't be listening to songs that make it seem cool to get drunk, but, indircetly, if you think about it a bit more, are saying that it's not ok. I think there should be some more artists they listen to that directly tell them getting too drunk to walk isn't cool. I mean in words that can't be interperated in two ways, like these lyrics can. If she's trying to tell us getting drunk is not a good thing, judging by the comments here, I think her message is too ambiguous to really come across. |
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – Where the Wild Roses Grow (feat. Kylie Minogue) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Yeah I read das Parfum at school, for German. Yeah I understand how the song reminds you of it.. Except Grenouille is ugly and his victims aren't close to being in love with him. By the way, I read that Scentless Apprentice by Nirvana is inspired by that book. I just read the lyrics and it´s pretty obvious if you read the book, and probably if you watched the movie too. Anyway, I love this song! |
Frank Turner – Love Ire & Song Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I agree |
Chicks on Speed – Euro Trash Girl Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think it's Melkweg instead of Milkweg.. It sounds like Milkweg in the song but as far as I know there's no Milkweg in Amsterdam, but the Melkweg is one of the main venues in Amsterdam. |
The National – Reasonable Man (I Don't Mind) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
First comment? Anyway, I think this could be about being in love with someone but having to pretend that you're not, because you're afraid, or know, that if you express your feelings you will (or might) lose the one you love. And so you love from a distance. However, you don't want the person you're in love with to act the same way because it's painful and it's not getting you anywhere, except seeming to be together from the outside. That's how I think of it anyway.. |
Blood Red Shoes – ADHD Lyrics | 15 years ago |
haha me too! |
MGMT – We Don't Care Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Yeah I think that makes much more sense too. Does anyone have any ideas on what the song is about? I think it could be about how we think we're making progress with science (splicing genes for example), and that everything that's new is better, without thinking about the negative (side) effects. Experimenting with nature, modifying it, "improving" it to what we like it to be, making everything artificial (alien). And even though we know it can be bad (poison in the air) we ignore it (we don't care). Maybe thinking we've come a long way in gaining knowledge and "perfecting" the world (we thought we left home), whilst we actually know very little, compared to all we don't know, and maybe we haven't made anything better (but we never departed), because maybe it's best to just let things be the way they are. I'm not sure though, as usual. I don't really know how this song relates to We Care. There are some links though. This one mentions "alien" and We Care mentions space ships. The songs mention caring and not caring, and being alone (we thought we were alone vs. we are alone) and the air (there's poison in the air vs. we breathe the air). There could be more links between the songs, but then I'd have to spend some more time on it. |
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – Where the Wild Roses Grow (feat. Kylie Minogue) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Yeah I think that makes sense, about the unidentified body. |
Lady GaGa – Just Dance Lyrics | 15 years ago |
what's date rape? (excuse my ignorance) |
MGMT – Hot Love Drama Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Only two comments yet? Such a great song! I think it's generally about how you need love but how love can also make things complicated. |
Lady GaGa – Just Dance Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I don't like the big focus on being drunk. Like it's impossible to have a good time when you're sober. It is a catchy song though.. I haven't quite made my mind up about it. |
MGMT – Everything's Happenin' So Fast Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I love the "nature is to blame for everything we cannot tame, so let's destroy it" bit! |
Blood Red Shoes – This is Not for You Lyrics | 15 years ago |
it should be "wash away those things i've heard". other than that the lyrics are right. this song is amazing. i'm not completely sure what it's about though. does anyone have any thoughts on it? |
Blood Red Shoes – Take the Weight Lyrics | 15 years ago |
everyone comes in and out staring like a cinema well shut these doors you're wrapped up in a uniform, just a cigarette away from shedding tears screaming for someone to come and pick you up and take the weight off, off i can't sleep, it's just too hot i can't sleep and i can't believe just how far it's come every day and night how to get along how they could be wrong wish it could be me the money's earned the money's spent, the claws have got a hold again you count each step the television therapy is no attempt at remedy your needs aren't met screaming for someone to come to come and pick you up and take the weight (lyrics from album booklet) I absolutely love this song. To me it's about how many people in "modern" (or is it post-modern already?) societies are unhappy. Everything is happening so fast, there's no peace and quiet and you can't be yourself, you have to conform to what society expects from you, which brings a lot of weight on people's shoulders (which they for some reason should hide). People get depressed and attempt to buy happiness. But material things can't fill up the emptiness you feel. You just need to express yourself, share the way you feel, you need someone to take the weight off. |
Blood Red Shoes – Doesn't Matter Much Lyrics | 15 years ago |
i'm probably wrong, but I think it's about the way people get taught things in a way that doesn't make them think for themselves. They just soak up everything they're told, only to eventually find out that they still can't find the answers to meaningful questions. Something like that anyway.. Don't really know how to describe exactly what I mean. |
Blood Red Shoes – ADHD Lyrics | 15 years ago |
these lyrics aren't entirely right. lyrics from the booklet: "now now now now now now now now boy moving everything so fast that now now now now now now now now boy i'm giving myself a heart attack now now now now now now now now boy but i'm so bored i can't stand still now now now now now now now now boy i'm so bored i can't think straight i'm so, i'm so distracted i can't concentrate on anything at all" Love this song! |
Blood Red Shoes – Forgive Nothing Lyrics | 15 years ago |
lyrics from the album booklet: is it just a passing phase do your methods change each day? fast at stating your recent claim no-one's listening what a shame oh so? never mind. the big impression has fallen flat so try to break your way out of that create an image so contrived i'm laughing at your sad demise oh so? never mind. is it just a passing phase do your methods change each day? forgiving nothing is being kind you turned your back and you left your spine |
Blood Red Shoes – Hope You're Holding Up Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I wrote a huge comment, but then, mindless as I am, I accidentally hit clear instead of add comment. Now I will give you a very shortened version of the comment. I think it's about being in a relationship, could be romantic or friendship, that is dying, because you are very busy. You realize you haven't been doing much to maintain the relationship, and you don't want to lose it, but on the other hand, in order to maintain the relationship you will have to sacrifice something you value very much (possibly a career in music?). You feel sorry for not having stayed in touch, and also find yourself unable to communicate your thoughts/feelings to the other person ("I'm sorry I've not made the space to write, the words never match up the thoughts on my mind" I know exactly how that feels haha). You don't want to leave the relationship, but things are changing, which causes the relationship to change too. In the end you have to decide if it's worth it to sacrifice the thing(s) you value for the relationship (change this for you) or that you sacrifice the relationship for what you want (change it for me). These are just part of my thoughts on the song.. I could be wrong. Corrections in the lyrics: the ed after work is missing (so it should be i still think it worked) and the last line should be change it for me, instead of change this for me. |
Blood Red Shoes – You Bring Me Down Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think it could also about struggling with a relationship, because you're not capable of showing how you feel and stop worrying. Which in turn makes you feel frustrated and stuck in a dead end, it doesn't get you anywhere, so you get out of the relationship. |
Blood Red Shoes – It's Getting Boring By The Sea Lyrics | 15 years ago |
These lyrics aren't right. In the album booklet it says: "leave your past atthe front door and run away like you did before blisters let's consider a change of scenery it's getting boring by the sea pictures oh, no no no no, you can't escape anything in this towon knock yourself out such a harsh tongue used so easily never hear it much in front of me keep quiet let's consider a change of scenery it's getting boring by the sea pictures oh, no no no no, you can't escape anything in this town knock yourself out you can't escape anything in this town you can't escape" About the meaning I agree. The "such a harsh tongue used so easily never hear it much in front of me" is obviously about gossiping. You can't escape anything, because everyone knows everything you do. Love it! |
Late of the Pier – Heartbeat Lyrics | 15 years ago |
yeah saw them there too, andrew said they had a lot of technical problems, didn't really notice it myself. love their music! |
Liquido – Narcotic Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I love this song! I don't like to think it's only about drugs and not (also) about a relationship. "Will you still recall my name. And the month it all began." Doesn't make me think about drugs. I think those lines are saying how she will get over him very easily. Also "Like an addicted to cocaine calls for the stuff he'd rather blame." makes the comparison explicit. I love the "I don't mind, I think so, I will let you go". To me it seems that you say you don't mind. But "I think so" to me seems like he's actually unsure. To make it short: those lines sound sarcastic to me. "Narcotic mind from lazed Mary-Jane." I didn't know Mary-Jane was marijuana, but I think this line says that when she broke up with him he wasn't thinking clear, didn't realize what was actually happening. I'm surprised there aren't loads of comments on this song by the way, it's a great song and quite popular too. |
Kings of Leon – Charmer Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Forgot to add, the sound of screaming makes me feel like it's not sarcastic but more desperate. But that's just how I feel. |
Kings of Leon – Charmer Lyrics | 15 years ago |
To me it sounds like someone (maybe the preacher's wife, but I think it doesn't necessarily has to be taken literally, could just be someone "forbidden") is trying to seduce him, always looking at him, making eye contact. It drives him crazy because he knows he can't do anything with her but can't stop himself from having thoughts about her either. She makes him want something he can't have and makes it harder by seeking his attention. I don't really understand the stealing the karma and selling it to the farmer bit. Maybe she stole the (good)karma he built up before, by making him think or want "wrong" things. Maybe the selling to the farmer expresses that the karma was taken for nothing, she didn't take it for herself. But I'm just guessing. I find gfy's interesting too, I didn't look at it that way. Could very well be the meaning too. |
Blur – Badhead Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I agree with def_linus on that it's about having lost touch with a friend . Neither of the two have really stayed in touch, which you can blame on the other person or on yourself. You might start out blaming yourself, but then realize that the other person hasn't stayed in touch with you either. Or maybe you did try to keep in touch, but gave up because your attempts didn't have any effect. This could also make you feel that, eventhough you care, there's no use in arguing about it, it's just not worth the the trouble since you've already tried to make it work and didn't succeed. Besides, arguing might not even solve anything at all. So you just grin and bear it. To me it seems that the "it" is just losing the friendship. Also, i think these are the correct lyrics: So far i've not really stayed in touch Well you knew as much it's no surprise that today I'll get up around two from a lack of anything to do And I might as well just grin and bear it Because it's not worth the trouble of an argument And you have not really stayed in touch Well I knew as much it's no surprise that today I get up for round two with nothing to do Except get a touch of flu And I might as well grin and bear it Because it's not worth the trouble of an argument And in any case i'd rather wear it It's like a badhead in the morning And I know And I might as well grin and bear it Because it's not worth the trouble of an argument And in any case i'd rather wear it It's like a badhead in the morning And I might as well grin and bear it Because it's not worth the trouble of an argument And in any case i'd rather wear it You're like a badhead in the morning (changes: early too->around two (3rd line) It's -> You're (last line) |
MGMT – Indie Rokkers Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I absolutely looove that line "heart is in the right place brain is in the dirt" too! you don't have to be a bad person to do bad or stupid things. Also, the brain is there, but it's in the dirt. You know it's not right, but you do it anyway. |
The Weepies – Living In Twilight Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I agree. I think this song just really sums it all up. You don't really have any major problems, except for maybe that you're just never really happy. I think it's just coping with or settling for being "in twilight", which isn't too bad, at first you might not even notice, but in the end all the "living in twilight" will add up. Because it just doesn't end, it's all those little things, that, on their own, are unsignificant, but all together it's pretty depressing. I don't know if I've explained myself well.. That's harder than I thought.. Anway, I love this song and can really relate to it. |
The Weepies – Not Your Year Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I love this song (like almost any song I know by The Weepies). To me it is about trying so hard, but never being able to be the person you want to be, to be happy. You feel that whatever you do, it's never right and you'll never be able to achieve your goals. And it just goes on and on.. But it also gives hope, saying it is just "not your year", but that it'll pass and you just have to keep on trying, "don't give up". I love the line "your life feels like the morning after, all year long". Everyone has their moments of feeling very sad, waking up and thinking "What did I do wrong?", but for some those moments last very long. |
