Jet – Eleanor Lyrics 14 years ago
"When that train rolls by
I will save your life"

With everyone rushing around, coming and going, always moving, when the train rolls by I'll still be there for you.

David Gilmour – A Pocketful Of Stones Lyrics 15 years ago
Similar to what agent wrote, I think it's about a man who was always dreaming of something greater that he just couldn't have. Happiness just wasn't enough to please him, he kept waiting for something that never came to be. He's always been stoic and distant when with other people and just can't muster up any care for others lives.

Remembering childhood and the distant memories that it brings up. That something in your mind that is completely infallible. Something you could never betray or turn your back on.

Wolfmother – Vagabond Lyrics 15 years ago
He has a strong attraction to a girl, sees who she is and what would make her happy. He sees her with another man that is worldly or simply can't provider for her due to lack of emotion or some other need.

"I go out walking all day long,
Take away this lonely man soon he will be gone,

You don't need to know what I do all day,
It's as much as I know watch it waste away,"

I think he wants to be needed. If this girl could only see that he can provide for her. Without her, the singer has no motivation or purpose, he walks about aimlessly and kills time.

Wolfmother – Colossal Lyrics 15 years ago
"If I had love to give you,
Would you still throw it all away"
"All I can give you is all of my love,
These things I can give you to keep,"

I think these two phrases sum up the whole song. There's a girl he wants to give all his love to but she simply isn't interested. He has nothing else in his possession and he's willing to give it all to her. Really powerful imo.

Wolfmother – White Unicorn Lyrics 15 years ago
I think this song is about a girl that the singer knew from his days at the carnivals.

"With the white unicorn, across her shoulder
Makes you think that she might of been
Someone who’s older, ahh yeahhh"

When I hear the white unicorn across her shoulder I think of a sash or cape of sorts that had some sort of title. As someone above said, white has often stood for innocence but I believe the unicorn stands for nobility or wisdom. To put it simply, this girl is probably a kind, quiet and beautiful woman that the singer instantly feels drawn to.

"And i know its on your mind
we've been drinking on the wine
that we drank from the serpents vine
Now we live in another time"

I honestly don't know what this is about, if I had to guess it would have a slight connection with Apple Tree and Colossal for its primitive references. The singer may feel that he is fated to be with her but they have forgotten/are unable to because of other factors.

"As she lays down to rest, she dreamt of another,
Of a time when she once had, someone to love her, "

That other could be the singer or someone else entirely. The main point is that he feels that she needs someone to love again and that he is that one.

"sister can you tell me when the day turns to night
she left without a word and wondered inside
how many days must i still wonder why
and see her face in every passer by"

I can't be sure but I've always thought sister in this sense refers to some sort of fortune teller/carnival woman whom the singer goes to, to ask about this girl that has left. The line about "seeing her face in every passerby" shows how that chance for something so good that is not haunts him now.

The Lovin' Spoonful – You Didn't Have to Be So Nice Lyrics 15 years ago
Taking a wild swing at this... I'm guessing the song is about a girl whom the singer liked and went over the top to be kind to him. This causes him to feel bad because he liked her before she even started being really nice to him. The resolution is somewhat unclear but it would appear that they got to know each other at the least.

The Lovin' Spoonful – Daydream Lyrics 15 years ago
People who need drugs to find "enlightenment" are inherently stupid, unable to drop their prejudices without the help of mind-altering drugs. If you look at the lyrics and the lighthearted theme you can tell he's obviously talking about a girl that he's crazy about.

For someone who has a rebellious attitude towards the government I'd suggest learning a bit more about language and interpretation. Its always been a failure to communicate in which the government slips things by your face.

Also drugs are a great way to subdue a population into becoming idle and preoccupied with nothing, might want to consider that next time you light up a blunt in the name of anarchy.

Oasis – The Importance Of Being Idle Lyrics 15 years ago
"I begged my doctor for one more line
He said son, oh words fail me
It aint no place to be killin' time
I guess I'm just lazy"

I always thought this part was maybe a "repentance" scene. THe singer realizes he's wasted so much time. It is interesting that he says one more "line" which when sung sounds very similar to "life". To which the doctor of course replies, you're crazy, life's no place to be killing time.

Pink Floyd – Outside the Wall Lyrics 15 years ago
The line, "Isn't this where we came in" relates to how people go through cycles. They conquer one obstacle (wall) and move onto the next. You are never complete.

"Die every day. Be born every day. Deny everything you have every day. The superior virtue is not to be free but to fight for freedom." - Nikos Kazantzakis

Blind Melon – No Rain Lyrics 15 years ago
I think the line about sleeping all day can heavily relate to this quote from Mark Z. Danielewski's House of Leaves...

Who has never killed an hour? Not casually or without thought, but carefully: a premeditated murder of minutes. The violence comes from a combination of giving up, not caring, and a resignation that getting past it is all you can hope to accomplish. So you kill the hour. You do not work, you do not read, you do not daydream. If you sleep it is not because you need to sleep. And when at last it is over, there is no evidence: no weapon, no blood, and no body. The only clue might be the shadows beneath your eyes or a terribly thin line near the corner of your mouth indicating something has been suffered, that in the privacy of your life you have lost something and the loss is too empty to share.

He sits there, he doesn't really want to sleep... he does just because there is nothing else to fill that void. He reads a book... but only as an escape, not because he actually enjoys it.

Pink Floyd – The Gold It's in the... Lyrics 15 years ago
"This song is about gold! GOLD!!! I really like this song. I would also like to go on a journey...And the prospect of gold only adds to the desire."

"I LOVE this song! It's about people trying to find gold everywhere they possibly can. The lyrics just give me goosebumps. "

Who the hell taught you to comprehend, let alone read, the English language? The lyrics clearly hint that he's NOT interested in gold. He's looking for companions to go on adventures with, it doesn't matter what their interests are, he's just there for the thrill, the ride, the fun. Material possession and fame are not his motivations.

Wolfmother – Tales From The Forest Of Gnomes Lyrics 15 years ago
This song is about how people often get lost in the past. This song has nothing to do with drugs nor does it directly reference anti-war sentiments. This really does not need interpretation but for those of you who are incapable...

"Oh my friend don't get caught in yesterday,
All the things we've heard have left and made their way,"
(Don't dwell on the past, what's happened is done, and you can't change that.)

"Lower your guns, even if love has turned to spite,
We may find the enemy waiting inside,"
(Put away those differences and problems that have built up, make peace with your enemies or your self.)

"Light the candle to see what may unfold."
Lead the way and make the first move and don't wait on it any longer. Be brave.

"If you listen to the sound within your mind,
You may find your answer flowing in the tide."
(If you put away all your prejudices and really just think of what the right thing is to do you'll know what you have to do.)

"So I wrote her a letter.
And I tried to forget her,"
(Mend a bad relationship if its stirring in the back of your mind.)

If you really think this song is still about drugs... please don't reproduce. God damn.

The Alan Parsons Project – The Turn of a Friendly Card Lyrics 15 years ago
I think in a more general sense this song is about how some people go through their lives unhappy hoping for some good to come their way (a friendly card). Yet waiting for that good thing can always seem forever, drawing out the misery (But the game never ends when your whole world depends). The last two lines tie this together, those who actively seek what will make them happy (pilgrims) will find it even if it takes a bit of searching or strife.

I'm not really happy with that as a interpretation but I thought a more general view on the themes should be brought up.
