I love this song so much too. The music to me sounds just as deep as the lyrics..
To me I believe this song has to do with drug addiction. More specifically Heroin. Which lead singer Geoff is struggling from. He spoke to the AP magazine about it. So yes it is true.
-When he says "Running from the rain", to me he is talking about taking opiates or drugs that make you run away from yourself and your problems. Shooting up or drinking, or whatever. You are running away from your real life.
-"I will be with you" sounds like his devotion to his wife or significant one forever "till it reaches the end of the line" until their death, which he knows could very well happen by using heroin.
-And as far as the kids verse. I believe he is just remembering how innocent we were as children. And would never think to take such harmful drugs. "lying in the tall grass, beneath the billboard dreams". Kids being kids, but knowing that one day we will grow old and work for some company and have responsibilities and such....
-"It'll ache every time we hear the storm, running behind me.." No matter how long you quit using, the temptation will always be there.

Out of all the power ballads of this era in Rock. This song deals with a subject much deeper than a break up of some sort like the rest.. Seems to be about a person attempting suicide. Has no one to turn to. Doesn't talk to Mother. Daddys not around. Depressed. Wants to kill herself.. Boyfriend pleading on the phone to wake up!. Dont do it! Dont go to sleep. It does have that feel that she ends up Killing herself. Sad. But such a powerful Ballad. Still holds up to this day. Possibly my favorite one of this era. I love this song |

Guys. I love this song so much..I believe its about a friend Geoff lost when he was young. I dont think it was a train accident. I think they must have played quite a bit there. So the tracks are nostalgic. I beleive he died in a car crash in a town with a track that runs through it.......Though when I listen to it, I can come up with many metaphors as it relates to my life. |

This song always reminds me of this really cute girl I met when I was 14 at Deer lake in Spokane WA over the summer. My parents would take my bro and I out there for a weekend or two. Her name was Isis. She was beautiful. ). I couldnt believe she was into me. Every single dude there wanted her. We were all chillin around the fire on the beach. She was like "oh im tired" and nuged me on her way back to the tent we were all crashing in. Followed her. We made out (was a big deal then). I walked her back to her cabin around at sunrise. We kissed one more time. And that was it.? Im 30 yrs old now and its crazy I still remember her. I think of her when I hear this song. FSF best song period. Anyways. Peace. |

I agree with Yappy Mutt. Although I see the woman being absolutley beautiful on the outside. So damn hott that you just cant help yourself but to want that. But as you go further in the attraction, unfortunatley, you come to find that she is like all the Superficial, gold digging whores out there who always have an agenda. And you were just hoping that she would be different. It turned out she wasn't. But I feel like he ends up liking her anyways. But at least now he knows what she is all about and to take it for what it is.

I believe completely that this song is about him leaving Blink and diving into something totally new, Angels and Airwaves.
"you know I wont say sorry"- He cant say sorry to something he totally believes is right.
"you know what its like to beleive, it makes me wanna scream"- He is telling his former bandmates, hey, you both should know what its like to do something you totally believe in because in Blink, they did at some point.

To me this song deals with sombody or knowing someone going through substance abuse and how it can control you. And selfishly, that person feels he is fine with being alone by himself with just that drug and nobody else. I like when he cracks on the music scene about how everyone is all wasted on substances. So true. I love this song. |
