Eskimo Joe – From the Sea Lyrics 1 year ago
This is a very clever catchy song about falling in love ❤️….but there are few issues to sort out.

Ohh I'm so spaced out today,
Ohh I could of slept for days,
(He’s on cloud nine because he’s met this girl and may have been with this girl and is head over heels in love. He may have spent some time with her and slept with her and so is literally also tired)

It's like a radar and it calls to you,
From the sea, from the sea, from the sea
(They are in love, it’s obvious and undeniable it’s clearly felt like a radar detecting it’s presence. It comes to you from the sea is the metaphor “the sea of love” like the song of the same name. It’s love)

Ohh she's just so under pain,
Ohh I'm so spaced out today
(She is conflicted and feeling anguish because she is actually with someone else and has cheated on them. It may even be a marriage. It could also mean being under someone, like her boyfriend/husband is dominating her and won’t let her go, she doesn’t know if she can leave him for the new guy who is in love with her. Where as he is spaced out and with his head in the clouds happy and in love. It’s knocked him for a six).

My head's the light way and I come to you,
From the sea, from the sea, from the sea
(I think it means his intentions, thoughts and motivations are pure because he
loves her…it’s coming from the heart… or it could mean he’s just light headed because he is in love, he can’t eat, sleep that kind of thing because he’s constantly thinking of her).

Hello, hello, ohh hello
(Hello!! Who’s this?. It’s clear. You’re the one. It’s you I’ve been waiting for)
The world repeats itself some how
(Love has come around again. Her other relationship which was once love has ended and love is in the air again. It’s time to embrace a new love)
She knows, she knows, ohh she knows,
(She knows he loves her. She knows it’s love again)
The world repeats itself some how

All I'm just beginning to know,
(It’s on. It’s her and it’s love and it’s all he wants right no nothing else)

She's all I'm just beginning to know
(He only wants her and to have her as the focus of his life for now)

Ohh, there's just no oxygen
(The situation is a bit suffocating with him being in love with her and she’s got this either freshly ex boyfriend/husband or is still with him and is cheating on him Or that It’s all a bit overwhelming this love, all encompassing…like trying to breathe underwater with no oxygen…the sea of love.
Ohh, why can't we just fall in,
(Somethings getting in the way. He asks why can’t they just fall and be in love. In the sea of love. What’s stopping them. The situation with the ex? Or partner she’s cheated on. Maybe it’s a marriage. It may be complicated)

Anyway, it’s a great hooky tune. I love Kavs voice. The piano, the drums, guitar…very catchy 10/10.

The Smiths – There Is a Light That Never Goes Out Lyrics 12 years ago
Oh, and check out the original video for the song. It has a rather erotic shot of a young semi-nude male with an earing in his right ear, superimposed over travel scenes throughout the whole video. Somes up the whole song realy.

I believe this to be a "coming out" song.

"Take me out tonight" has a double meaning. He wants to be "out" as in no longer in the closet and he wants to go out and be with others of his kind.
He doesnt want to go home because he has come out to his parents and they have told him that he is no longer welcome in their home (which unfortunately is still commom when gay teenagers come out to their parents)
He remarks about being kicked out of home in three versus so it is effecting him deeply, but he is filled with such relief and happiness to be be coming out and revealing who he realy is to the world and so proud to be spending time with another gay man whom he is very fond of that he would be satisfied if he died that night.
"Take me out tonight,Oh, take me anywhere,I dont care,I dont care" also has a double meaning - hes saying he wants to be taken by this man, he wants to loose his virginity to this man, and with such desperate and wanton abandon that he doesnt care where.
He gets his chance "under a darkened underpass" he thinks "Oh, God my chance has come at last" but he looses his nerve and "just couldnt ask."
"The light that never goes out" is the light that shines in every gay person that cant be snuffed out.You cant make them straight by abandoning them or kicking them out of home, or forcing them ito denial. It always shines and is recognised by others with the same light.

A beautiful song of confusion, desperation and hope.

The Smiths – This Charming Man Lyrics 12 years ago
Such a well written song, conjuring such wonderful imagery with a minimum of lyrics. Its quite simply "charming" is what it is!

I interpret the song literally.
The protagonist has a punctured tyre on a deserted hillside and contemplates whether adversity will force him to grow up and mature into a man.
Then a charming man in his nice car offers him a ride. He then decides to stop thinking so deeply and enjoy the free ride in this mans luxury car.
The charming man then asks the protagonist out that night. He replies that he cant because he hasnt got appropriate clothing.Denoting the charming man is of a higher class than the protagonist and that the occassion might be a bit fancy.
The charming man then complements the protagonist exclaiming that he neednt worry as he is so handsome that he could get away with wearing anything.

Now this is where the song gets a little obscure.

The line "a jumped up pantry boy, who never knew his place" comes from the movie Slueth(its on youtube). Where Michael Caines character is being confronted for having an affair with Laurence Oliviers characters wife. Oliviers character says to Caine "Youre nothing but a jumped up pantry boy , who never knew his place!" He is making a stab at Caines character for being working class - a pantry boy being a servant working in the kitchen of an English manor house.

So for me this could be interpreted as - the protagonist has met someone above his class through his associations with the charming man and intends to propose. The charming man frightens the protagonist "AH!" when he confronts him telling him to get back in his place and not to marry someone above his class. He should return the ring as he wont be able to support her affluent lifestyle. The charming man knows about these things as he has seen it before or is speaking from experience.

-Thats my take

Interpol – Evil Lyrics 14 years ago
I just want to add that "great smile" could be referring to the fact that Rosemary West was good in bed. She obviously liked sex and was a prostitute. In my country smile can be a reference to a vagina.Or maybe I just have a dirty mind.

Massive Attack – Karmacoma Lyrics 14 years ago
I love this song it is one of my all time favourites. Massive attack always have such a depth and sophistication to their music, lyrics and video clips.
My input is that I think the 'deflowering my baby' part could be about taking the virginity of a much younger girl that he is old enough to have fathered....a fan maybe? 'Are you my baby mate' a child but also a partner? And he must be 'crazy'.... like a pedophile, stupid to get involved with someone so young then tricky chimes in with 'you must be lazy' because she is easily taken advantage of. 'see i'm Swazey' as in Patrick Swazey in the movie Dirty Dancing the young woman he fell in love with was named Baby but Swazey was good to her and treated her well, so he is saying even though she is very young he will treat her well. Dunno i could be way off but it makes sense to me.

Coldplay – Moses Lyrics 15 years ago
Just the way he says " and baby I" extending out the "I" before "I wish" drives me crazy and makes it my favourite song of theirs.
Plus the equally melancholy yet hopeful guitar riff is to die for.

Sorry Ive changed my mind. Its about losing your virginity to an asshole."Let them bleed" like you do when you lose your virginity and "let them wash away pertains to washing after the act.

Like a lot of young girls with a low image of themself eager for the love of a male. To me the "let them bleed " is when you have unprotected sex and are anxious untill you bleed again. And "let them wash away" is after the act of unprotected sex. The anger of giving that much of yourself away when he does the deed and thats it.

Pearl Jam – Black Lyrics 15 years ago
Was she a virgin? "untouched sheets of clay" and all I taught her was everything"..... I think she eventually cheated on him and he is bitter because it has completely changed everything between them as happens when someone cheats on you.He loved her so much and when she left it was like the sun dissapearing from the sky and everything went black. Sung with Sooooooo much passion! I love it.

Pearl Jam – Daughter Lyrics 15 years ago
For me the sentence that defines that their is physical abuse, is in the line "The shades go down" that Eddie repeats a few times at the end. I have always thought that it meant someone in an abusive relationship putting on sunglasses to hide bruises or a black eye .
