| I can't believe nobody has commented. "Good Enough" has several meanings here for me. He is contempt with thing being "good enough", that he is was not "good enough" for her. I think the girl may have some depression problems, and never sees herself, as "good enough" either. I get this meaning, because this song seems to be written about this girl that I love. We are dating now, but I'm not sure what will come of it. I feel like every word was written about her. | |

I've loved this song for as long as I can remember. Well since I heard it the very first time anyway. As for the meaning. I never really knew until recently. This is what I think it is about. The girl he is in love with is suffering from chronic depression. She does love the singer, and he obviously loves her, but for whatever reason, probably do to her depression, she is afraid of their love, and she always holds back. "Love Restrained" She instead always seems to end up in relationships with people that are bad for her. They may cheat on her, or beat her, but they are not good for her. Some people commonly do this subconsciously, because they sabotage themselves from having the real love with the right person who truly does love them like the singer. That's where the lines: "We've been through this such a long long time Just tryin' to kill the pain But lovers always come and lovers always go An no one's really sure who's lettin' go today Walking away" come from. Basically, he knows he can love her, but he knows she needs to learn to love herself first. That's what he is saying in this part. She brings him so much love and happiness, but never enough, as she is always holding her love back. Walking in the cold November Rain is him being alone waiting for her to come back to him and love him. "If we could take the time to lay it on the line I could rest my head just knowin' that you were mine All mine So if you want to love me then darlin' don't refrain Or I'll just end up walkin' in the cold November rain" The singer has spent a good bit of time by himself in the meantime, and he has learned to love himself, and being alone. That is a big problem for people that are chronically depressed, and that is why they are often depressed. They let fear over power their love, and fear brings negativity, and pain. That's where the whole last part of the song comes together: "Sometimes I need some time.. on my own Sometimes I need some time.. all alone Everybody needs some time.. on their own Don't you know you need some time.. all alone And when your fears subside and shadows still remain I know that you can love me when there's no one left to blame So never mind the darkness we still can find a way 'Cause nothin' lasts forever even cold November rain Don't ya think that you need somebody Don't ya think that you need someone Everybody needs somebody You're not the only one You're not the only one" So basically he is hoping she can overcome her depression, and let love into her life, and they can finally experience true, real, deep, passionate, love together. I may be way off on this, but it makes sense to me, and that is what I get out of it. |

It is definitely about lost love. Either simply lost or death who knows. The part about when you get sad your memory slips. That is a built in mechanism we all have. I've had this long on again off again relationship with girl for many years. I can always remember the good times. Every single detail with amazing accuracy. However, there were of course bad times as well. I don't remember some of them at all. Others are just cloudy memories. I think that is what he was talking about. Our brains just seem to block that stuff out, and we forget. That line maybe makes me think that the lost love is still alive, and maybe he is talking himself into revisiting that lost love. He is thinking about how he doesn't even remember how, or what went wrong. He just wants to hold her once again. I can relate. It is a great song. Probably my favorite from "Mojo". He obviously can never have the things he is wishing for. He realizes it, and he keeps telling himself that there is no reason to cry. |

First off wtf is wrong with the 80's? People keep saying I know it's from the 80's but.... WTF! The 80's was the time when allot of the best music, and movies were made. Not to mention I was made in the 80's which makes it even better. That being said the lyrics are pretty straightforward. This song came on my ipod this morning on the way to work. It doesn't remind me of someone special, because there is no such thing. It reminds me of a girl that ripped my heart to shreds time, and time again. Finally I had to tell her good bye for good. She is just another face in the crowd now. I hope the day I forget comes soon. |

I think the lyrics are pretty straightforward. An awesome song too. Basically he was with a girl, he did all he could for her. He was not appreciated, taken for granted, and something big happened possibly he was cheated on. He decided he can no longer love her, and that he needs to move on. I don't understand the lyric: "You're just a loaded gun now" I understand the preceding line, but what does the loaded gun reference mean. I've never referred to a woman as a loaded gun before. Does it mean when she sees him again, she is going to want to kill him? IDK? "I'll get over you, it won't take long" One of the best lines in the song. It's what you need to do when women do you wrong. The great thing, is when the right woman comes around, and you fall in love with her. Then the one you want to get over, you can. You then realize how messed up things were, and how they are better now. That's what I am looking forward to. |

I too think it is about the our wants and needs, and how our wants probably will cause harm to us. Possibly the want being a relationship with someone who is not right for you, or is just going to cause you trouble and hurt you. This song hit home to me the other day. I went to lunch and it came on my ipod in my car when I left. It was right after realizing things wouldn't work with this girl. I've dated her in the past, and always wanted ever since. I realized she would always take me for granted, and treat me badly and only think of herself, and her own agenda. I realized at that point, I didn't need her, and life would go on despite losing her. I tried with her time and time again. This was the point when I quit trying, and realized everything for what it really was. She hurt me, and I was the "bleeding man in the glass" I realized I didn't need her, she was always just a want, and will always be a want. I got what I needed from her. I'll get nothing more. As much as I wanted her, I'll have to move on. That's what it means to me. |

I just created an account so I could post on this song. I was reading the lyrics on here, and waiting for the vid to download on youtube, and very second I clicked the youtube link. The song came on the radio here at work. It was kinda creepy. I too think it is about knowing he was being cheated on, he had to move on, but he still loves her. It is about dealing with those feelings of letting her go, one of the hardest things to do. Ironically I am in the same situation. I had to tell her I loved her, but that I never want to see her ever again. Probably the hardest thing I've ever done in all of my life. She has driven me crazy for over half of my life, and I am 27 today. So it's been a long time. Ironically all of the good Journey hits are about the same thing. Love being lost. |
