Balance And Composure – Kaleidoscope Lyrics 12 years ago
I've found many similarities between this and the Socratic Allegory of the Cave found in Plato's "Republic". If you're not familiar with it, you really should check it out, but it always seemed to me that the author (I'm assuming Jon wrote this) is identifying with the philosopher. How this relates to the meaning of the song, I don't know, but I find the similarities interesting.

Balance And Composure – Show Your Face Lyrics 13 years ago
I think this song's about God and having trouble with keeping your faith. I wish this was my own thought, because I wanted to kick myself when I realized how much it makes sense, but I read it somewhere. I really enjoy these guys. Couldn't say how many times I've seen them, but they are great everytime. But, yeah, read the whole thing with God in mind and it makes a lot of sense.

NOFX – Don't Call Me White Lyrics 13 years ago
I'm pretty sure this song is just about them seperating from the past, reminescent of Minor Threat's "Guilty of Being White". The last couplet sums it up. They are responsible for what they've done, not their race. Anything that is tied in with it or is in their history is irrelevant to them. It's like how us Americans can't hold the Japanese or Germans today accountable for the actions of their grandfathers in World War II. I mean, after all, us white people did some pretty fucked up shit back in the day.

I know so many girls like this in college. I always wonder what they are going to do when they go home or need to , like, live in the real world.

Less Than Jake – Never Going Back To New Jersey Lyrics 14 years ago
This song isn't exactly about New Jersey, although I completely would understand, seeing as how I think Jersey is complete and utter shit. Vinnie grew up in New Jersey, and I'm sure he loved it , but as all thigns chnage, when he would go back to visit, it was probably totally different and wasn't the hometown he remembered. Hence, he has no hometown now and doesn't want to go back. I can relate i guess, seeing as how I live in Wilkes-Barre which I use to love, but with the HUGE influx of dumb ass gangs and shitloads of drugs and crime , I can't even walk down my street anymore. It's completely ridiculous and doesn't feel like where I grew up, but I only have a few more months until I can leave.

Gimp – Keep It To Yourself Lyrics 15 years ago
She fights addiction, claims shes a victim.
She tries to hold back what she'll never give back.
“Mine hands are tied”,yeah, she says with a smile.
I wanna wanna be, I said I wanna wanna be anywhere but here.

Where's the pain when you need it?
Where's the hate when you want it all?
Where’s the anger when you can see?
We are emotionally drained.
We are emotionally drained.
We are emotionally drained.

And when its ended, he can't defend it.
He tries to hold back what he'll never give back.
“Mine hands are tied”, yeah, he says with a smile.
I wanna wanna be, I said I wanna wanna be anyone but me.

Where's the pain when you need it?
Where's the hate when you want it all?
Where’s the anger when you can see?
We are emotionally drained.
We are emotionally drained.
We are emotionally drained.

Keep it to yourself!
keep it to yourself!
Keep it to yourself!
Keep it keep it to yourself!
Keep it to yourself!

Operation Ivy – Take Warning Lyrics 16 years ago
i the meaning of the whole song, with the exception of the refrain. "Take Warning" just doens't make sense to me there because to me it sounds like hes gonna go against his strong unity belief to beat the shit outta someone else, which would make him the same as those nazi skinhead motherfuckers

Operation Ivy – Room Without A Window Lyrics 16 years ago
This song has a pretty easy meaning for me. Its just a metaphor for the mind of most people that prevents the main message of all Op Ivy's songs, unity. Its saying because of all these things we build wall and block out all other influences. We don't see things from another persons perspective and are very ignorant to others.

Streetlight Manifesto – Down Down Down to Mephisto's Cafe Lyrics 16 years ago
what does the marvel mephisto have to do with this song?

btw, Mephisto is another name for Satan, like the kid above me said , so im really suprised its about stupid ass retarded scientology which i cant even consider a religion and doesnt have anything to do with the christian devil. The only reason L. Ron Hubbard created it is because he was a crappy writer and was next to broke and he needed a lot of money to support his drug habits. Every scientologist who held a position of power in the church next to him left scientology once they saw what a crock it is. I'm not the type of person who makes fun of what others believe in , but scientologists piss me off. okay, i'm sorry for those that read this cause i wasted about 2 minutes of your life and it hjad little to do with this song.

Streetlight Manifesto – Forty Days Lyrics 16 years ago
lent lasts forty days because of Jesus's forty days spent in the desert. There is a lot of things in the Bible that are forty days. "40" is in the Christian faith so much it'd be pretty hard to identify it to one specific thing

Shoehornhands,

JD Salinger wrote one novel, Catcher in the Rye which is great by the way, and he basically disappeared. He is reclusive and has only given one interview which was to a high school student. It wasn't exactly so people wouldn't be sad, he just doesn't want to be any part of society, much like Boo Radley in To Kill A Mocking Bird if you have read that. I hope that helps ya a bit.

Streetlight Manifesto – We Will Fall Together Lyrics 16 years ago
Why is everybody so caught up with what Tomas's stance is on religion? I sorta think his whole point in most of the album is religion is fine , but dont get all bent up over it and let it consume your life. I'm not saying people on here are like that, but I really cant seem to convey many religious messages other than mephistos cafe and forty days which both give mixed messages on religion anyway.

Streetlight Manifesto – Forty Days Lyrics 16 years ago
adsfkahsdf,

you are right about the christian belief that if you aren't baptized you won't go directly to heaven, which i agree with you ,it is a completely retarded idea. But you are wrong in that christians believe they will never get to heaven. Generally, they believe you must go through purgatory and then heaven if you aren't baptized in any form.

and there are other baptisms other than the normal one of water. There is baptism of desire and baptism of blood. The first is those who live Christ-like lives but have not been baptized and the second is for martyrs or others who die for their faiths and aren't officially baptized.

(12 yrs of catholic school and counting)

but like everyone else, i agree Streetlight is amazing. Since i've had a shitload of catholicism shoved down my throat, i can easily figure out many of the religious refrences in this song and I gotta say, its pure genius.

Streetlight Manifesto – Down Down Down to Mephisto's Cafe Lyrics 16 years ago
I believe any band or instrument Tomas Kalnoky touches is instantly GOLD. Gimp, BOTAR, SM and Catch 22 all are/were great when he was in them.

Personally I think this song isn't really any sort of religion bashing song. I think it actually embraces religion but goes against factions in faiths.

-Finally, I met a man with kindness in his eye and fire in his heart
He said you'll never have to choose a side
It's rewarding but oh, the road is hard....
They broke him wide open
Like a dam and a cork that's holding everything inside

that sounds to me like he was happy with what he believed until others shun him for what he believes

and the chorus sounds to me like hes saying those that claim to be so righteous aren't so righteous after all if they'd "spit on you" for doing your own thing
