Headphones – I Never Wanted You Lyrics | 13 years ago |
That is very probable... and intense. |
Lauryn Hill – I Get Out Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I thought this song was about the Catholic Church. At least to a degree. She made statements against the Catholic Church in regards to the child molestation during a benefit concert in the Vatican. But I like to see it as her simply breaking away from the "system" in general... which is especially true during the time she wrote this song. |
The Get Up Kids – Lion and the Lamb Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I came here really expecting for there to be a sweet interpretation but for some reason there isn't. I have been thinking about this song and I have no idea what it means. In the Bible, the Lion and the Lamb are the Father and the Son, two persons of the Trinity. The Lamb of God, Jesus Christ, is to be slaughtered a sacrifice so man can be saved and caught up into the Kingdom that shall come. At first I was like, "hmm.. well the Lamb being slaughtered for 'our home' could very well be a biblical reference" and it may be somewhat biblical, but he also says the Lion should be sacrificed which isn't so Christian. Like many other artists, he may be using religious language to show the depth of something else. I don't know. And I want to! |
Derek Webb – The Spirit Vs. The Kick Drum Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This is pretty much about superficial Christianity. People love the music of worship and have an emotional experience, but don't truly feel the Spirit. "I don't want the Father; I want a vending machine." That line was a sweet punch at the prosperity gospel. |
Rufus Wainwright – Zebulon Lyrics | 14 years ago |
On Dinner with the Band on IFC, Rufus Wainwright performed Zebulon and said it was about a childhood crush he had when he was in Montreal in a time when "life was simple". |
Paper Route – Empty House Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I am pretty sure this song is about the Rapture. "It was a matter of time til this ground gave", which is the imagery of the world being done away with. "It was a matter of time" meaning it was inevitable because it is God's plan. That person at the door... well, He'd be Jesus, ahah. "Maybe it's all the right dreams at the wrong time" Well every Christian is excited for Christ coming back but they had dreams of what they wanted to do on earth that could not be finished due to His return. "Maybe it's better to start a whole new life" EVERLASTING LIFE... pretty sweet, huh? |
Manchester Orchestra – I Was A Lid Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think this song is about being a man of imperfection and having to deal with sin while God is perfect and absolutely good. I can't think too much right now but that is what I get out of this song. Nighty. |
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – Into My Arms Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I don't know why nobody has said this, and maybe I am really wrong, but I always thought he was singing this song to a girl he loved who was a Christian and most certainly a believer, and he himself didn't care for religion and couldn't connect to the personal God of Christianity, but the girl he loves makes him want to. Just me? |
Steely Dan – BarryTown Lyrics | 15 years ago |
My father joined the Unification Church at a workshop at the Unification Theology Seminary in Barrytown. Many members lived there and worked there and witnessed and recruited youth at Bard College, where Don Fagen and Walter Becker went to college. Unificationists were known to be clean cut, wear suits and frequently carried clip boards and pamphlets. Moonies, as they are better known, were infamous and remain infamous and were frequently in the news in the 70s. This is likely about the Moonies in Barrytown. |
Ester Drang – All the Feeling Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Life is empty without having the grace of God delivered through the Savior, Jesus Christ. |
Pedro the Lion – Be Thou My Vision (Hymnal cover) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This song kills me, knowing he lost all his faith in God. And it's not just that he lost faith in Christ that kills me, but in general he's lost faith in all things. And it kills. |
Scott Mc Kenzie – San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Some Flowers in Your Hair) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This song brings me such a calmness, and a part of me wishes to go against my conservative-values when listening to this song and be apart of the radical youth of the summer of love. |
Jon Foreman – The Cure For Pain Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Jon is talking about how he has struggled and has had doubts that trouble him, but he is in a way ashamed for God suffered so much already. "Oh my Lord! To suffer like you do It would be a lie to run away" Those lines peck at my heart ridiculous. He is pretty much saying he knows God had to suffer so much and to give up on God and faith would be lying to himself. |
Cold War Kids – Hospital Beds Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This song is about the importance of the baptism. "I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me will come one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not fit to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire." (Matthew 3:11) In the lyrics he says "brings the bring the buckets by the dozens" and continues, "bring your nieces and your cousins put out the fire on us" |
The Beatles – Sexy Sadie Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Well like most Beatles song, it's tangled with thousands of meanings with different emotions and different motivations. Also, they always leave space for your own interpretations. The song at first was made so Lennon could get some stuff off his chest about the guru Maharishi. Maharishi was angered by the Beatles constant intoxication, as well as other celebrity devotees staying with the Maharishi. This song was not about Maharishi's hypocrisy at all. He never made a pass at Mia Furrow. And none of the Beatles believed that. |
Deerhoof – Kidz Are So Small Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Potato chipu- not whatever the hell is written here! It's just a funny song. I love it, it's just great. |
