I totally agree with everyone on the idea that it's about a relationship that isn't working. yeah i agree with someone up there who said that it was about two people. i think it's about his whole mentality. Hear me out, he wants to keep this woman with him forever. he wants to protect her from all harm and make sure she's ok, forever, but his alcoholism is too strong. It's possessing him, and it's somewhat of a love-hate relationship. It's also a struggle between these two things, love and alcohol. he's having trouble choosing one over the other, and I gleaned this from the line, "Drink up one more time and I'll make you mine Keep you apart, deep in my heart Separate from the rest, where I like you the best" where he's assuring her that he loves her THE BEST, more than his drink. and no i never actually thought it was about the stars. OR, now that i re-read it, it could all be about his love interest's addiction to alcohol... perhaps? either way it's a great song, and i've been listening to it non-stop =] |

yeah yeah definitely agree with like everyone who's posted on this song. it's obvi about a relationship that he wants to revisit, or a time they were together. I could definitely see how this song could be about a girl who was going to kill herself. I see it more as him mocking her at first. Like he knows she would never do it, but then as the song progresses, he realizes that she's completely serious, that's when he says "ease back, calm down a little ease back, calm down." But the whole imagination triggered by boredom and the you're in love with nothing, really make me feel like he's looking down on the whole suicide choice I LOVE THIS SONG! |

Yeah it is an incredibly sad song. and you're right about the mi hermosa and con su cuerpo, but i dont think that it was so much that they had a bad relationship because it was chiefly sexual, i think it was more of something they both knew. They both knew how to be sexual, and they knew how to do that better than communicating, obviously, being as though she speaks spanish. he still thinks she's beautiful, and misses her dearly. this song can be interpreted on many platforms as well... it makes me sad whenever i hear it especially the part; "I've been stuck on your foreign eyes They have struck for better boy We put your lives on our shoulders but these arms are too weak to hold us" the way Dan sings it really makes it seem like he's yearning for her, as strong as he could... it really is quite sad. |

It's something that we've all experienced, or are going to eventually, and it's one of the worst feelings in the world. When it become a one sided relationship (with whoever) and that one person who seems to be holding it together is starting to loose it because they've finally realized that the other person doesn't care anymore and would give up that "bond" that they once had for the next thing that comes along.
