Dark Moor – The Silver Key Lyrics

The Lovecraft references abound. It focuses almost purely on The Dream Lands stories. Many of his stories from that loosely connected set dealt with returning to childhood, which really was a strong element of the outwardly spooky Howie. Absolutely beautiful. It's amazing when a top-notch band and Lovecraft combine. |

Van Canto – Lost Forever Lyrics

Wow! I always thought the song was a hopeful song. You know, like everything is crap, but there's a silver lining he/she is looking towards. (That addiction comment kind of made me open my eyes a little.) Sorry; I'm just too damn used to their songs being positive. Hoping for a negative song from Van Canto is a lot like looking for a happy song by Sonata Arctica. They exist...but not in profusion. |

Van Canto – The Mission Lyrics

In all honesty Van Canto tends to lyrically bore me, but the "rowrowfightthepowah" nature of the of the songs gets me everytime. Plus, I can't help but revere anyone who does a Cappella. It took ages in choir to do just the Star Spangled Banner like that. Great singers, great arrangements, and the lyrics are still better than most American songs. |

I made a reference to the green dress today and none of my family got it. :/ I started explaining it, and they were saying they said Fur coat, and not Green coat. Eventually we kind of settled on both. Family is awesome like that. |

Clutch – Cypress Grove Lyrics

The Witch theory seems appropriate. What comes to my mind are the tales of Sirens and other similar creatures (even faeries; look what they did to Rip Van Winkle). In this song, however it's modern...like a spring-breakesque city where faeries lure single men in and presumably kill them. |

I always feel a little guilty for listening to this song, as it's so intensely sad a feel a compulsion to avoid it. Nonetheless, it's an excellent song, and in terms of lyrics is one of the better songs on this album. |

Huh. And here I thought the song was about a blacksheep and how he'll always be one no matter what he tries. |

I just figured it was a song about a brown acid trip, but thieving fellow-potheads is also a likely scenario. |

Sonata Arctica – Letter To Dana Lyrics

I've always loved this song, but fairly recently I was reading the Kalevala (a Finnish epic poem) and there's a chapter in which a warrior goes to battle so that he may die an honorable death. He gets a message about his family members dying off, and in every case he more-or-less says, "forget those losers", up until his mother dies; and then he returns home. |

Clutch – Mice and Gods Lyrics

I seriously wonder if "biosphere was purposely made to make a reference to Hyperion. That book has a giant sphere of plant life weaved together in a giant circular form. The genetic imperfection could also be reference to the "Ousters", who are genetically modified to some pretty extreme levels sometimes. |

At some point I was confused weather or not this was a sort of devil or if it was just a strange type of angel. good to have read the lyrics. The lazer eyes part never fails to make me laugh at least INSIDE a little bit. But he seems to be an angel. Cool. |

Sonata Arctica – Wolf & Raven Lyrics

I believe the song to be referring to Macbeth's reliance on the witches' prophecy during the beginning and end of the play. In both song and play, the main character is supposed to be invincible, but you later realize it's quite the opposite. "I cannot die,
I know, but anyway
The words, they maim me"
And don't forget about the horrible dreams. |

It wasn't until I started reading Macbeth in school that I saw meaning in Wolf and Raven. The references to regicide, fitfull sleep, ravens, supposed invincibility. It's an amazing song for that reason alone. |

Wow...normally I'm not as acute as a lot of the people in this site...relating to the lyrical-genius that is Tony Kakko, of course. Yeah...this really screams sequal to don't say a word. And who knows...maybe he actually doesn't die. It's interesting for there to be those little missing pieces of the story. |

Well, that's an interesting interpretation. I never thought too much about this song though. It seems to put more focus on instruments thatn the other songs.
Plus, it's power metal, so I always imagine soem guy with a sword trying to save the day. |
