Cut Copy – Take Me Over Lyrics 13 years ago
first time i heard it, i immediatly thought of fleetwood mac's 'everywhere', sonoflife! the 'down under' inspiration didn't strike me until i read your post, but i can definitely hear it, too.

Anything Box – Living In Oblivion Lyrics 13 years ago
very straightforward lyrics, awesome synthy-fueled melody. it's all very simple but it builds a lovely atmosphere... i love it. the vocals have a delicate sincerity and expresses a pain that feels very real. always a favorite in 90's themed parties.

Joe Jackson – It's Different For Girls Lyrics 13 years ago
i wasnt't familiar with the 7'' picture, thanks for pointing it out - now that you put it into perspective, it illustrates the song so beautifully.
to whoever is interested in the picture: http://www.discogs.com/viewimages?release=1182571

Romeo Void – Never Say Never Lyrics 14 years ago
BillyBudd is right IMO. if people bash women for being outspoken about such subject today (check the comments...), you can imagine the names Debora was called, back in 1982. I would say that's how you make a stand about such subject in a fun, danceable way... if you can stand such small-minded people.

Andrea True Connection – More, More, More Lyrics 14 years ago
as for the meaning of the lyrics, yes, i always understood it as being about a porn star falling for her screen partner and asking for more, because she actualy feels what she is supposed to act (that is, she wants the guy for real).

Sandie Shaw – Steven (You Don't Eat Meat) Lyrics 16 years ago
it's also missing a few verses. anyone care to complete this? it's right after the fourth verse...

The B-52's – Private Idaho Lyrics 16 years ago
actually i find some meaning on it. could it be patterns on tv static? maybe...
but i always thought they were singing about not letting your surroundings mold you, about being yourself. as everyone knows, the b-52's came from rural america, which can suck you up and make you a small-minded simpleton (a category in which most people fall into).
as i see this song, they're simply saying 'be one of a kind', like they did. and they became one of the funniest new-wave bands. how dull and serious was rock music before them?

The Smiths – Work Is a Four Letter Word (Cilla Black cover) Lyrics 16 years ago
yeah, it's quite lovely on its own context.
it's about a girl that sticks to the lazy guy she loves and encourages him to go out and get a job :o)

The Smiths – What's the World? (James cover) Lyrics 16 years ago

Lloyd Cole & The Commotions – Rattlesnakes Lyrics 16 years ago
it's about a girl that is too careful, too precautious and fills her life with mundanity so that she doesn't feel empty ('reads Simone de Beauvoir') about not having someone to love.
she doesn't seem to get rid of the emptiness ('there are always needles in the hay'), although she tries to deny that ('she says all she needs is therapy').
i love the line "she looks like Eve Marie Saint in On the Waterfront". sounds mysterious if you don't know Eve Marie Saint is an actress which won the oscar for her role in On the Waterfront. she was very beautiful btw, so it probably means Jodie does not have someone 'cause she avoids it for being her "great disappointment".
i hope i got it right.
