i'm pretty sure that this song is my favorite. the line 'the thing that maybe once seemed harmful is her' just feels very sad to me. sort of pathetic and desperate, as well as 'you wouldn't eat unless i told you so'--the person in the relationship who's in total control and then the person with none of the control. but sort of switched up, because it seems like the person who has the control ends up bearing the burden of the attention from the person they supposedly 'don't care' about; it's a really perverse and gorgeous song. i love it a ton. |

i've seen it; i don't think so, not really. i just assume (probably wrongly) that since they're canadian they're referencing a specific place in canada which has a strange history that's somewhat darker than the honeymoon spot it used to be. the falls are a big draw for suicides and the like. not that this has anything to do with the song either, but...yeah. |

I sort of think this song is weird and messed up but with this girly happy overtone. Note: the girl is the only one all thrilled about being back with the guy again, the guy says nothing about love or everything going HIS way, it's all about the girl. Just my interpretation, but I love the creepy factor. Maybe the guy can't up and run because she cut his achilles tendon or something. Sort of like the Japanese movie Audition. I'm mostly kidding! Still, it's really how I read this song. |

n439 i think you're kind of a sad person. the song is about love. who cares whether the love being referenced is gay/straight/bi whatever? i always thought this song was about just complete closeness, two halves being almost one person--something about the line 'drinking lover's spit' makes me think of not caring about anything but being with that person. i don't know. |

wow, there are a LOT of errors in the lyrics here: 'of course we did it now, didn't we' it's 'wild eyed' not 'wide eyed' it's 'fighting for a pervert's future' not a 'purpose future' ? wtf would that even mean? it's 'receiving end of our bayonets' not 'seething end of our bayonets' 'sex marines Semper Fi!' Semper Fi is the marine corps motto. as for what this song means, it means that Dick Valentine is cooler than most people I know and has fought in Sex Wars, which is very important for the continued safety of our nation and liberties. Seriously, he is one of the funniest lyricists who isn't in a joke band. E6 rocks hard and Evil Cowards are great for dancing. 'we ain't going AWOL', not 'going a war' |

this song really does draw a ton from the 70's porn film 'the devil in miss jones'. i know no one here has really addressed that (except for one other poster) but it's the case. watch the video--it's basically the star of the film, now an old woman, talking about her experiences making it. before anyone worries about her doing things she didn't want to do, georgina spelvin was pretty groundbreaking in that she was one of the women who went into porn because they loved sex and thought they were introducing a sort of revolutionary way of making film. i love her in the video--seeing her reminisce, she really does have this sort of dreamy flame in her eyes. the fly being discussed in the song is present in the film also--he's an insane man who thinks that he's a fly and sadly won't respond to georgina's advances anymore, which is what signals to her that she's truly (finally) gone to hell. scribe gets right to the essence of the song when they say "You are trapped in a cycle of pleasure/pain. The other is trapped in a cycle of pleasure/unease. Your love will never be realized." that's pretty much the film too. |

look--the lyric is clearly 'i might like you better if we fucked together'. if you see them live it's clearly 'fucked' and it's not like tyler/dick has an aversion to using the word anyhow. i think that line is also referencing the romeo void song 'never say never' where the singer repeats over and over again 'i might like you better if we slept together.' dick valentine is a pop culture encyclopedia and i have no doubt that this lyric is a riff on the older song. |

i don't see this song as sarcastic at all. the way the melody flows is so joyous and happy and just...uplifting. i don't think this song is an endorsement of christianity in any way, despite it's subject matter. it's just about hope and beauty. that's all i hear in this song. the beauty of the world around, the comfort in sweet dreams. it's the best song. |

a lot of the new songs trouble me because they all seem to be about giving up everything, possibly even life, for the sake of love and need. this one is no different. it is, however, exceptionally beautiful, and i have very, very high hopes for lp7. i would like to point out that nowhere on the net--greenplastic or anywhere else--does anyone hearor list the lyrics as 'wierd fishees.' it is quite clearly sung, at ether and at bonarroo as 'we're fishes'. also, the word is spelt 'weird'. not the way you misspell it in your username over atease or anywhere else. we all know that you love thom, wierd fishee, but this song is not about you. please stop insisting that it is, because it's a little creepy. |

i think it's a love song, but i see it as a love song about being with your family/loved ones for a very long time, and the feeling that you are there in the relationship but you've somehow become sadly invisible to them or taken for granted by them due to time and familiarity. "we only stick with you because there are no others" the line "i'm in the middle of a picture, lying in the leaves" also bears this interpretation out for me. he's been there forever, in that family picture, but they're all so used to one another that now, instead of being important to her, he's just lying in the leaves, very alone. i really feel the song is about the desire to feel that initial craving and importance to/for the other person and not being reduced to feeling like being a dog trapped in a hot car, being an insect, wanting to share what they once had, etc. and the fact that even though you're being ignored, that person is still all you need. at the greek theatre on 6.30.06 these lines were different from what is printed here: "WE only stick with you because there are no others" "i am all the DAYS that you choose to ignore" and possibly "i'm in the middle of YOUR picture" but i've heard tons of other variants. |
