The Divine Comedy – Bad Ambassador Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think of it as a relationship where the guy and girl want totally different things: Neil is a bad ambassador for that "elusive place" yet the girl sitll wants it. Great song. |
Ben Folds – Prison Food Lyrics | 17 years ago |
In my opinion this is the only song from Songs for Silverman that would make Ben Folds greatest hits album "A trace of me floats in my periphery/and every time I turn to see/it goes" maybe one of his greatest internal rhymes and metaphorical images ever. I think this song is about the feeling of surviving passage of time without getting answers to the "big questions" (like: who am i? why do we 'walk the earth'? 'who will be the first to go?' Am I 'Alone' again?) After all, "the biggest things we have to face alone" |
Guster – Parachute Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This song is about remembering that you have reasons to feel safe: there is a parachute (the love of family and friends; faith; whatever) over you even when 'gravity fails' you. defintiely think of this song when I'm going embark on something big in my life -- I try to remember that I'm safer than it seems... |
Duncan Sheik – The Winds That Blow Lyrics | 17 years ago |
sad, wonderful song. Its about how everything ends, no matter what. Sure as the winds blow, everything is blown away. 'nobody waits Among the winds that blow.' eveything (and person) eventually goes. Not a complex sentiment, but like most of the songs on this fantastic album the simplicity of the messages underlie increidble depth and complexity. |
Ben Folds – Girl Lyrics | 17 years ago |
pretty clear. misses a relationship. wants it back. sings about it. |
Natalie Imbruglia – Left Of The Middle Lyrics | 17 years ago |
She is unhappy in a mediocre relaitonship in which she is not put first by her mate. She is trying to tlel him its hard to communicate her feelings, but even tellng him this proves impossible. great song. |
Death Cab for Cutie – Steadier Footing Lyrics | 17 years ago |
easy to relate to this song. the world is on the brink of autumn, maybe last party of the summer, first cold weather cigarette burning, always makes you think fo whats slipped by. Then she shows up, and you try to put it into words but its easier to just smoke, talk about quitting, let the night end without crisis |
Matt Nathanson – Wait Up Lyrics | 17 years ago |
putting everything you have into a relaitonship, and not getting anythign back when you need it (when you stumble) -- instead your lvoe uses to strength they have derived form you merely to continue on, without you. Very cynical song. |
Kings of Convenience – Cayman Islands Lyrics | 17 years ago |
sure, this is about taking a holiday and only caring about being there, then, in the moment, together. If only they could see, if only they had been here They would understand, how someone could have chosen To go the length I've gone, to spend just one day riding = postcard sentiments |
Jon Brion – Get What It's About Lyrics | 17 years ago |
great song its about tht thing that makes you like someone. they get it, you get it -- you both know a little something most people do. It might be somehting likedont sweat the small stuff' or it might be something more personal --and just sharing that private knowledge is being in love |
Rufus Wainwright – Dinner at Eight Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i agree i agree also i think: No matter how strong I'm gonna take you down With one little stone I'm gonna break you down And see what you're worth What you're really worth to me is the key to the song. Rufus throws hate in order to see how it feels -- if he indeed cares -- if its really worth it... |
Kings of Convenience – The Weight of My Words Lyrics | 17 years ago |
this is truly the saddest and most goose-bump producing song i have ever heard after love goes, words and effort no longer have meaning. it is truly gone. now he is haunted by the past, which truly cannot come back. |
Belle & Sebastian – Sleep the Clock Around Lyrics | 17 years ago |
trying to find a peace of mind where, even if you are wasting your day and not doing anything "productive" you feel good about where your life is |
Duncan Sheik – Far Away Lyrics | 17 years ago |
every relationship is informed by music, voices, memories that, in fact, are not "far away" at all |
Duncan Sheik – Lo And Behold Lyrics | 17 years ago |
the quiet sadness of faith. we are made Low when we Behold |
Duncan Sheik – Mouth On Fire Lyrics | 17 years ago |
utterly unspeakable awe that paralyzes the body -- probably he stands before some beautiful natural place and this song is him trying to grasp the meaning. its so overpowering it shakes lose everything heknows about the world -- where are the certianties? where is security? |
The Magnetic Fields – Papa Was A Rodeo Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i go back and forth with whether he (male singer) is left at the end. Does he "feel like crying" because she is just like him (and leaves him hanging)? Or is he crying for joy that he, in a world of mismatches, he found someone truly like him that he understands how to love? |
