I'm really seeing it differently. It sounds like there's a girl that had a boyfriend, love interest, or really needy friends.The singer comes along and they fool around. Now she's in so much trouble... not because her b/f knows, it's just that she's guilty. Now the relationship is questionable since she keeps thinking about how she shouldn't be doing this right now - but she wants both. The singer and the girl want to keep going but be quiet about it - and she also doesn't want the same relationship that she's in right now. The girl's love interest also isn't that smart, given the last line. we don't want to make mistakes we don't want to be the same i hand the finger to my fate he doesn't know and he cannot see that far The singer is predicting the end, of course: I don't think i want to think about it How the fall is coming down And I think this wraps up at the beginning of the song. So maybe the singer and the girl split it off for a bit and don't talk for a couple days. He doesn't know what she's going to choose: him or the other guy - or nothing at all. "You're not punk, and I'm telling everyone." Sort of defines this entire internet discussion. I think Jawbreaker is saying "Who the fuck cares what you are, just do your own thing, don't worry about it.". If you like the Ataris, great! If not, great! Might be time to move on. |

I think the line is: "I Drink Expensive Rye, Do Coke The College Girls Think I'm a Joke" Instead of the "A drink expanse the ride you caught". If I'm right, I think the line kind of kills a bit of the song for me. It has a bit of innocence and throwing throwing the hard drug reference sort of dirties it up. Maybe that's the point? Beyond that, this is a pretty killer song. I like the admission that he knows he's being dumb about it, but he still keeps on it. I can sort of relate to parts of the song, but not currently. That said, I appreciate the song and have friends who this likely applies to. :) |
