I just want to correct a few people who have said that Syd was completely whacked out from the acid by the time he wrote this. He may have been under it's influence at the time, but his breakdown didn't come for several years after this song was written. Don't just assume he was crazy to have written this; it actually is a rather clever song, even if it doesn't have a deeper meaning. |

I've never actually heard this song, but did anyone else notice the part where he says "...thinking about the hand of doom..."? I know this could obviously be considered a reference to impending death, etc. but "Hand of Doom" is also a Black Sabbath song about excessive heroin use. Could this be a reference by Ozzy to his own drug use? |

this song is definitely the low point of Vol. 4. It's boring and formulaic, and is WAY too piano heavy. And it's not even interesting piano work. It's worse than listening to Billy Joel. With some work it might be a pretty good song though; it's a good concept. |

I just heard this song for the first time, and it definitely kicks ass. It's sort of a different subject for Sabbath, though. Especially the last line. War Pigs/Luke's Wall is another one of those anomalies. |

I'm sorry, but anyone who hears this song and thinks it's actually advocating sitting inside all the time watching Tv. is braindead. This song is supposed to be making fun of the idiots who get so involved in tv shows that they can't talk about anything else; it's satirical you asses, that's what punk is all about. |

weasel27 doesn't get it. I don't really like punk at all, but I still like this song and Sid. Everybody knows Sid was a joke as a bassist, but that's not what it's about. No punk rockers were the best at what they did, but they went out and spread their surprisingly intellectual message, and THAT I have respect for. |

you definitely can't overstate the importance of either John Bonham or john Paul Jones in this song... but then again that's true about almost any Led Zeppelin song, which is what makes them the best. |

I've never heard of any Led Zeppelin version of this song, but I do know that the earliest known recording of it was made in 1934 by some old folk singer. It is believed to have been originally written sometime in the 1800s in the American south/west |
