Coldplay – Fix You Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Someone asked about the line "And ignite your bones". When people are depressed then they are said to be cold so I simply think it's just a case of giving someone hope and happiness back. As for the meaning of the song, well just because it's written for G.P. doesn't mean ALL the song is about her or even what he's saying to her. Someone says they say they borrowed ideas from "Many Rivers To Cross", actually it simply sounds like 'someone' is answering the man's pleas for help from that song. Beautiful song, I hated Coldplay and saw them as elevator music until I heard this song. Now, maybe it's the advancing years I really like them. |
Led Zeppelin – Stairway to Heaven Lyrics | 16 years ago |
While I'm sure Plant is telling the truth that he doesn't know what it means however I'll take a stab. However it was probably written when he was on drugs and when you're on drugs images and thoughts come to you almost like in a dream They're a bit jumbled. They're from the subconscious and they tend to be more metaphorical ranther than literal. They are a reflexion of your state of mind but need to be interpreted. So given the fact that he's said the opening is about a woman who thinks she is entitled to everything just for being female and that it starts of cynical and angry and then softens I'll take a stab. Heaven is a reference to the love of a woman. You can take the "evil" path and simply just use them as sex toys. This is normally done after being hurt and and therefore you refuse to trust THEIR motives are pure. OR you can trust and therefore love. The bible has a lot of the same sentiments in it. Jesus says "To enter the kingdom of heaven you have to be innocent as little children", because they can trust. etc. So after the intial thought of cynicism and anger at women he is thinking of the consequences of going down the evil path and how he might be saved represented by the saviour piper (Jesus) and the hope of a perfect woman, representated by a pure virgin (Mary). If your unhappy with the Chritian ideas of a saviour and a pure women, substitute your own in. All relegion is simply a way to understand the mind and most people go through the same things in life. I love the last three lines, those are the most important. It's similar to his thinking when writing BlackDog also from Led Zep 4. |
Dr. Dre – The Next Episode Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Hip-Hop is based alot on sampling but then again alot of that 60s/70s/80s music that is used for sampling is just 30s/40s/50s (Jazz,Blues, etc)music that was sped up or "electrified". I think where hip-hop adds to the music is the beats and base-lines, that's generally where you get most of the originality and it can completely change the song. Also listening to a good rapper's ability to hit the beat and convey emotion to the poetry is compelling. |
Dr. Dre – Bitch Ass Niggaz Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I love this. There's alot of people that EXPECT you to give them something if you make it, expect to be looked after. Only interested in you when you've got money. Or talk behind your back and undermine you due to jealousy. Snoop is basically saying that these are the qualities of (certain) women and if you act like a one of those I'll treat you like one. It's a VERY masculine song. But it's also a warning that men need to be men and not expect anything of others, don't complain, don't make excuses but instead go out there and do what they need to do. |
Bruce Springsteen – Better Days Lyrics | 16 years ago |
A guy who waited for a girl to find him. Then decided to go after women. "It's like eatin' caviar and dirt" Finnaly he finds his girl. Warns others not to get down and give up. I like this song, it's not just hopeful and ultimately optimistic but also carries a warning for lethargy. |
Lou Reed – Satellite Of Love Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Good looking woman are always surrounded by guys, these guys are sometimes referred to as Satellites. I think he probably was jealous of either them (Harry, Mark and John) or the attention she got. As for the whole TV aspect, I think that was a metaphor. I think like most artists, he's an observer rather than someone who takes part. He could just mean that he was observing life and for him it's like watching TV. |
Bob Dylan – Just Like a Woman Lyrics | 16 years ago |
c.f - You hit the nail on the head. I knew a girl exactly like Edie Sedgwick (that's who this song is about) and it could have been describing her. Most of those party girls are just lost little girls looking for affection and love but they only crave the feeling of being loved BY someone. They never actually allow themselves to love someone as they're broken and that would require emotional maturity and actually putting yourself out there. Eventually alot end up being lesbians as that's a safe non-commital relationship - like a normal friendship except with sex too. |
Led Zeppelin – Black Dog Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Fantasising about hot chick. Fucked over and dumped by hot chick. Feeling like he's in hell, looking for a "good" girl to possible save him from depression/hell. Black Dog is a reference to depression, or satan or whatever. Heaven and hell are just states of mind. |
Johnny Cash – It Ain't Me Babe Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I feel like this. Women seem to want a knight in shining armour and feel "it's all about them". However after getting fucked over enough times you don't really want to put that amount of effort in again and you start to look for a girl that's more into making you happy rather than you making her happy. Maybe it's just a sone about not wanting a selfish woman. |
The Beatles – All You Need Is Love Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Baccus93 - I can believe that. It's a feal good song definately but life is a bit more complicated than that. Besides love is a selfish emotion, you really only love those that make YOU feel good about yourself. We love beutiful successful desirable people because if feeds our own ego. We say we love them because it makes them more maliable to manipulation. |
The Beatles – All You Need Is Love Lyrics | 16 years ago |
The last line should have been: "No-one you can love, that doesn't want your love". |
The Velvet Underground – Beginning to See the Light Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Sounds like my theme-song. Basically as others have put partying, apathy and living without a care give a temporary release (sarcastic enlightenment) from the sadness of not having more meaning(true love) to your life. |
Leonard Cohen – The Future Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Being a cohen means that your descended from the Aaron line and also probably Ezra the person who probably was most responsible for writing the torah (bible). That makes the line below make sense. "You don't know me from the wind you never will, you never did I'm the little jew who wrote the Bible " Jewdism is all about control as is Communism, and christianity (especially orthodux christianity under St.Paul). Basically he's saying that western culture is free and if man-kind is allowed to be free then it's going to be a wicked evil selfish place, basically because man-kind is wicked evil and selfish. If that's the alternative to control then he wants man-kind to be controlled. |
Oasis – The Masterplan Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Just my take but it's a song about religion. The line that gives it away is: "The answer's in the looking glass" This is a reference to Lewis Carroll's "Through the Looking-Glass" and in it is a poem called the "The Walrus and the Carpenter" that is a metaphor for religion - Devil and Jesus. It's also the same poem that John Lennon based "I'm the Walrus" on, although he later said that he never realised the Walrus was the bad one and should have called it "I'm the Carpenter" - but I think he knew rightly. Basically it's saying you can be good or bad - however being bad isn't wrong or against God - it's your choice, don't feel like you are controlled into thinking anything. Other lines: "You know they're gonna go Which way they wanna go" "I'm not saying right is wrong It's up to us to make The best of all the things that come our way" |
U2 – Sweetest Thing Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think this isn't just about Ali (although definately inspired by her) but love in general. It's not perfect and requires work. It's a song laced with alot of irony and most people don't really get that it's actually got very depressing lyrics mixed with happy music showing the effects of love (pain and happiness). Alot like the Cure's music. |
